Another secret uncovered on the Daily. It's not as cool as Black Spindle, but no doubt many of us will want to take a look anyway...

https://youtu.be/kT_TPaZgrWs

ETA:Also found this interesting. Datto can come across as being rather pretentious at times, but you cannot deny he does carry out some interesting tests.

https://youtu.be/lmDiPPDTdfg

Essentially, Weapons of Light (WoL) used to be the go-to for doing extra damage to enemies, but it now has some competition. Both ShadowShot (SS) and Melting Point can be used in a similar fashion, allowing the fireteam to do extra damage. WoL with illuminated allows you to cause 35% extra damage for its duration, and ShadowShot (SS) does the same, although obviously it only lasts 5-8 seconds depending on your spec. Melting Point (MP) trumps both though, debuffing the enemy to the point they take a whopping 50% extra damage.

Also worth noting that MP, being a debuff to the enemy, and WoL, being a buff to the fireteam, do stack, and the way the games works out the damage it allows you a short period of time where you can deal 100% more damage than normal. Sadly, MP and SS don't work together, as they're both debuffs and SS will take priority as its a Super.

Of course, WoL and SS are both supers, MP is not, so it's feasible that MP will be available more often, though MP does also require you to get up close and personal to your target, great for the likes of...

Golgoroth, less so for Warpriest or Daughters!

Not always practical then, but good info regardless.

Thanks for that Sim, it is an easy solo unlike the black Spindle, but the rewards are pretty pants, a shell which I got 5 motes of light for handing in and a legendary engram for some average boots.

If I had found all that, I would be disappointed with the rewards!

We did this yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Like you say, the rewards are a bit Meh but, it was pretty cool to do another jumping puzzle and access a new portal to Venus in VoG.

First raid completion with my Hunter bagged me a chest, arms, the fusion rifle (again!) and 2 hand cannons, with exactly the same light and final perk! I had heard bad things about it but, I've been using it this morning and I love it! The cocoon perk is brilliant and almost makes up for the painfully slow reload. Just need a decent raid secondary or heavy with the same perk.

I'm up to 41 calcified fragments and there is another one I haven't got in the raid which I'll pick up this week. So, I'll need to grind out some tier 2 and 3 Court fo Oryx at some point if anyone else needs to (or would like to help out! thumbup )

Nope. hehe

The raid is pitifully easy. Having Black Spindle for Golgoroth and Touch of Malice for the deathsingers and Oryx makes it a breeze. I think we had 4 ToMs doing DPS at the end of last night's run. God knows what 6 would be like! hehe I think we need hard mode sooner rather than later.

Still, I got some decent drops- another hand cannon (yay!), the scout rifle (at 309 and it is seriously good), the auto rifle, the rocket launcher and a pair of gloves. This takes the Hunter to comfortably past 300, without any 310 items equipped. biggrin

I've got the next few days off so will be about to help with whatever. smile

Just in case there are still people who have't been in yet....

I disagree, I'm not quite there yet. I only have 3 completions (one per character), my first ever Kings Fall attempt was only last Friday. The Final fight still confuses me slightly and I often find myself thinking 'which bit is this, what should I be doing?!', I spend the first 10 seconds of every deathsinger's fight thinking 'please don't be me, please don't be me, please don't be me'.

The rest of it is fine, apart from that stupid, stupid jumping puzzle with the big dicks (no, not you guys, the metal thingies) hehe!!

I shall hold you to that - see you in the Court of Oryx later shoot

Well my Warlock who only has 1 quest on his page today had a new mission open up, ended with me having a curious receiver. We shall see where it leads me.

Weirdly I can in put a password in it, it has 2 rows of nine symbols, each row has the same symbol.

Strange.

Also, it seems that if you are in game in the gunsmith menu when the reset hits, you can pick up next weeks weapons before it gives you your orders from the previous week. Not keen on Auto Rifles but did get the rocket launcher with tracking and a high velocity and blast radius, looks good actually.

I only need another 20 Calcified runes for my ToM, so I'll be picking that up later, then doing my Exotic sword quest. Happy to help with Tier 3 Court as well, got Antiquated runes taking up space in my inventory!

On the subject of Raid difficulty, it's a very subjective answer. I went in on sunday as part of a team with no prior knowledge of mechanics and it felt plenty tough enough. We were in there five hours, and only made it to the penultimate boss. On the flip side of that, yesterday with a more experienced group (LC, Kaney, Adam, Reece, Youngsy, Matty amongst others in an ever-changing line-up!) I ran it three times in six hours give-or-take, start to finish, once on each character.

It's like many things, when you're unsure of exactly what is required of you, when you haven't got a complete understanding of the mechanics, it feels like a struggle. When you know them, or have someone clarifying them for you, have good team co-ordination and the ability and weaponry to put out massive damage in a short space of time, even the trickier fights - the first two bosses for instance - go down pretty quickly.

Gunsmith rank 5 has started an exotic quest for the hand cannon that came before The Last Word, I just have to wait until next arms day now.... Bloody annoying, at least let me do stuff, waiting a week is a crap mechanic.

Have to agree with this. I know why they have to do it, otherwise the eager beavers would be through all the content far too quickly but it does come over as a very artificial way of slowing down progress.

It's not a new thing though. Plenty of the older exotic bounties required components only purchasable through Xur. Get to that part of the quest at 10.01am on sunday? Tough st, wait until friday for Xur to re-appear.

EDIT; All Passcodes as follows (T is top, B is bottom);

T B T T B B B T B
T B T T B B T T
T B B B T B B B T T
T B T B T B T T

This will open up another quest where you have a timer to reach the top of the tower first seen in Cayde's Stash, and defeat 3 major wizards at the top. It's light 270, but pretty tough, and rewards you with an Exotic Mission Item - Ikelos Fusion Core.

I'm going to suggest it's the first part of the quest that will lead to Sleeper Simulant.

There some modules on the Fusion Core, but Im not sure what to do from here.

EDIT;

  • There's a heavy payload module, that requires you to dismantle a heavy weapon. I got rid of an old Year 1 HMG.
  • There's a mission which references the archives on venus, you just need to do the mission of the same name on any difficulty.
  • Three "defend the warsat" public events, one on mars, earth and the moon (cheers Matty for confirmation on this).
After that, we have to wait!

Has anything yet emerged as the new year 2 must have? In year 1 it was clearly the Gally, but what is it for year 2?

The exotic swords are all great - I unlocked my first, the Bolt-Caster today - but no one is going to say you need one to run Nightfall or Raids. I really like Telesto in PvE, but while its a lot of fun to use, no one is going to be be upset if you don't have it. To be honest, the biggest requirement for high-level PvE is likely to be a strong sniper. Black Spindle is very strong, but - like Black Hammer before it - can be situational, and again, isn't likely to be a must-have any time soon. Ditto Touch of Malice.

To actually answer the question directly, then no, nothing as utterly dominant as Gjallarhorn, thank goodness.

I've been a bit antisocial today, have been focussing on getting a few items for myself rather than doing anything for anyone else.

Did the might-be-Sleeper-Simulant quest earlier, then managed to get my first exotic sword, as mentioned above, which took a little while longer than expected as the matchmaking kept putting me in groups that required one sword of each element, and the other guys kept killing my arc knight. I eventually had to post on LFG to get help, though thankfully the two guys that did sign up were great; making orbs, getting well timed revives, great communicators... we got it done quickly, with no fuss. All three of us also bagged the strike-exclusive fusion rifle as well. It's mediocre, but rarity alone makes it worth keeping.

Also bagged a 310 Monte Carlo from an exotic engram. I had a previous 290 one fully levelled, but will likely dismantle that, and I did grab a couple of exotic gauntlets when messing around as the hunter. They did decrypt into 290 titan exotics annoyingly, both of which I already had!

I hope there is something really special as a reward for beating the hard raid, as the normal raid is easily beatable at 295+ once you and your team know the mechanics, it's already lost it's challenge for me and I've only beaten it a couple of times!

I've got a couple of characters at 301 and am not massively motivated to push hard to get them higher as it typically involves a lot of grinding/RNG luck and/or finding other guys who know what they're doing and the end result is that it doesn't give you any in game advantage anyway.

Hopefully Trials will re-invigorate it for me as I'm finding myself wondering what I'm playing the same stuff over and over for. frown

For those of us who have now given in and joined the Destiny grind cult. Could I ask any noobs who are playing, or any grizzled veterans who are running toons under level 20 to post game tags below?

I am Krunchkin, or Krunch Kin.

Whilst I don't have any low level characters, you're very welcome to add me (PSN: Speckle) - I'd be more than willing to lend a hand should you ever require it.

I think I did the right thing by getting the DLC late and waiting to enter the raid. I think it us a shame that a few people seem to think the raid isn't a challenge and has lost it's appeal already. For me, it is still challenging, the loot still very appealing. Even with the experienced guys I play with, it is still a huge amount of fun every time we raid and I can't see that changing any time soon. There are still lots of roles within the raid I have yet to try and I'm a long way from all the mechanics being second nature.

I'm still chasing the exotic quests that a lot of you completed weeks ago, for touch of malice and the exotic sword and, as I didn't farm exotics when most people did, I still get genuinely excited when an exotic engram drops and have a huge amount of WANT for all the weapons that still elude me (which is most of them to be honest!)

Whilst my casualdom is becoming less and less casual as time goes on, I'm glad I had a slow start as I am still overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I still have left to do! thumbup

I'm glad I got this late too, still got a tonne of stuff to get through, loads of weapons still to collect and I haven't even gone near the raid or Court of Oryx and only played a few rounds of PoE.

I'm not rushing through this time as I know if I do I'll end up bored with it again.

Krunchkin I am trying to light level up my 40 Titan at the moment but at some point I need to go back and bring up my lowly Hunter who is languishing in the mid teens I think so feel free to add me up as The_Guvernator.
