Auto Rifles suck. It's official.
The high ROF auto rifles, which are the ones to go for, were nerfed slightly in the latest update, making pulse rifles the way to go. Suros Regime with the perk that makes you fire faster the longer the trigger is held is also a viable alternative.
Slow ROF/high impact auto rifles are useless in PVP.

And as soon as they were, I did wonder who'd be chasing it and I wasn't wrong No chance of me meeting the requirements, so zero pressure here. Another shader / emblem? Meh
Auto rifles are OK IF you can get a reasonable ROF plus max stability - I've got a Zarinaea-D I think it is and it has served me well. Got a MIDA now though, and who hasn't after Xur this week so I'll be trying that in the Crucible as and when the inclination hits. Might be a while

I ended up using - of all things - Atheon's Epilogue. Once you've pre-fired a few rounds and Persistence has kicked in it's very stable indeed, and I managed to have reasonable success with it. Without Persistence though, it was hopeless, keeping the reticle on target for the first few shots proving very difficult. Thankfully, this was followed by Pulse Rifle kills, and another bounty for kills in Rumble. First game with my trusty Grasp of Malok back in hand, and I actually won a freaking Rumble match with a 3.6 k/d. And I suck at Rumble!
The next one was scout rifle kills, which meant giving Mida a run out. It's a great all round weapon, but still not the best Exotic Scout. That honour goes to Tlaloc, the warlock exclusive, which is basically broken, though you need to resist the temptation to use your super if you want to retain your advantage.

Re the auto rifles, try Suros Regime on the larger maps (remember to waste the first half of the magazine immediately on spawn) and Hard Light on the smaller more confined maps.
With Hard Light you can shoot around corners and hit someone with your rebounded missed shots if you're inside a tight room/tunnel.
I still need to do kill Oryx on hard I think, I absolutely cannot stand any jumping tasks - whoever thought including them in a game where there are 6 or 7 different jumping mechanics across the character is a sadist!

I'm missing Oryx HM kill, the Crucible quest line, and two of the Calcified fragments (Warpriest and Golgoroth challenge modes) so it's certainly doable inside the next two months!
The handcannon kills were getting frustrating as well' they've had a little bit of their range and stability restored as of late, but they're still optimal at the same ranges as pulse and some scout rifles, both of which can kill more quickly and with more consistency. The problem with handcannons seems to be that you need to find a rhythm to land shots accurately, something like fire-pause-fire-pause-fire-pause. If you spam the fire button to achieve maximum fire rate, the shots just go all over the place. Pulse and scout rifles don't suffer to quite the same degree, so they can be far more consistent in their damage output.
There's also been some substantial changes made to The Last Word / Thorn as well, so I really struggled to do anything with either of those; TLW has had the exotic perk changed, the stability reduced and it no longer hits like it used to, whereas Thorn's damage-over-time has been neutered into the ground. The ticks now only do 2 damage rather than 7, and they seem to tick only three or four times rather than seven. After a rather frustrating morning trying to get four games with six handcannon kills, I enrolled some help and got it done.
Thanks, Stimps, you're a star (even if you did beat me in two consecutive rumble games)!

That was good fun earlier. The two of us went into Rumble to kill eachother and finish off a couple of quests and despite this mucking about, we came out the top 2 in both games.
For the MOT I need to do the 3 KF challenges and finish off Oryx on Hard Mode. If anyone fancies teaming up then let me know but I'm not that bothered whether I do them or not.

I've added you on PSN. There's still a few of us on here that play regularly so when we are up to something and you are online I'll invite you in.Dick Dastardly said:

There were a couple of occasions we were running at each other when there was a very definite pause, almost as though we were thinking "shall I kill him?", right before we almost invariably traded and apologised to each other!I can't tell you how much of a relief it was to cast off the shackles of the crappy handcannons and get back to murdering randoms with pulse rifles and shotguns - though I almost felt sorry for the guy who was level 18 and entered rumble. I think his final scorecard showed a 0.21 k/d, poor guy!

I'll be attempting Warpriest challenge after reset, if you're about I'd be more than happy to have your company.Actually, that brings me quite nicely to my next point; raids. King's Fall specifically. How many people here still play the game with any regularity? The one-time Pistonheads/Year 2 Clan has all but disintegrated, the regular group runs a thing of the distant past, and that's why I think a few of us are missing in-game achievements we'd have long since knocked out of the park in Year One, like HM raid or challenge mode clears.
I'd considered either starting up a new clan or joining an existing (and non-PH related) one, just to help those milestones tick by a little more easily. Not just for the end of the Taken King era, but moving into Rise of Iron as well, but I don't want to do that unnecessarily. So, who still plays regularly? Who's likely to be running King's Fall HM or CoE with any consistency or frequency? Who is lurking, not posting, and is maybe looking for a group that will? Or, who already has a group and thinks they may be looking to recruit?

Define regular though Sims? I'm keen again and we've had a good few runs through CoE as you know, but I'm hardly a regular player, I get on when I can as other things allowRaids - King's Fall has no real carrot does it unlike the other two. No weapons people want to run it for, nothing that's in the same league as Fatebringer or Vision of Confluence ergo people aren't bothered to do it. For the casual player, beating HM KF just to say you've done it holds little interest if there is nothing unique to potentially gain from it especially as it's likely to still take a couple of hours at least
I've run KF just once (with the usual suspects) and it was great, but we didn't get past Gologoroth on that occasion and that was normal mode, but I have no real compulsion to get back in there if I'm honest, but that's the Raid's fault, not the fireteam
I'm happy to do more or less anything when I'm on, but I also don't have a timeframe when I can say I'll be on and even then, I'll have limited time - gone are the days of playing for hours on end. Life dictates otherwise I'm afraid
Since the end of last year, the only PvE I've done is CoE for a fortnight or so after the recent update. I still PvP fairly regularly but SBMM has made that a bit dull. Any lobby I'm in with Adam and Reece is hard work for me as they raise the skill level up too high, and playing on my own is okay, except for the fact that 99% of the load outs are meta weapons. If I want to use HCs/NLB/Fusions etc it can become painful as my opponents are of a similar skill but using much better weapons!!
I'm up for a raid or four, but as Stimps says I'm really not bothered about the MoT stuff. It'd be nice to get together at the weekend though. I even solo'd HM Crota the other week, but gave up after about 30 minutes when Crota himself kept getting up after half a second.......Nothing changes
I've not got HM fragment, or any of the CM ones. I have to do the CoO bounty as well as I've always deleted it when it comes up.

Hi all! I've not been round these parts much recently. Still playing quite a lot though. I have all three characters above 330 now and my Warlock can get to 334 with a decent build.

This is all I need for my MoT. I completed the Crucible quest chain before they made it easier. The drops for completing Shaxx's weekly bounties is a good source of high light infusion fodder. Jumped into a HM raid the other day but my hotel internet connection was getting worse and worse so I got kicked at Warpriest. Really want to complete HM and the Challenge modes. Look for me if I'm around and you need a 6th! lovechild said:

I hope you dropped your weapons and armour to an appropriate level, you n00b I'm not sure I can be bothered to raid anymore, too much of a potential time suck when it doesn't go smoothly. I could probably be persuaded to run VoG at some point but, aren't we all way too high of a level for it to be a challenge nowadays?
As for my Destiny regularity, there is none. If I see Stimps online in the morning (our schedules crossover at around 6am), I'm happy to log in for a CoE or Nightfall or something but, I'm not getting dragged back into late evenings and all day Sunday gameplay again....at least, not until Destiny 2 which is probably still a little way off yet...
Grinded Crucible rep to level 3 thanks to the boosters and lots of Control, although I did chuck in a couple of Rumble matches and some Mayhem Clash. Two to the Morgue shotgun and an auto rifle from the rank up packages, so meh
Bought the vendor Hawksaw and now need to level it up, but I was a bit surprised what was actually killing me in the Crucible:
1. The Last Word, by a country mile
2. Various high ROF autos
3. Universal Remote was totally lethal when I saw it once or twice
4. Various snipers although less than I thought
5. MIDA, but again less than expected
Perhaps surprisingly was the lack of pulse rifle kills - bought it to just one Grasp and one Hawksaw in maybe 15 or so matches. I thought these were the go to weapons
Anyhow, the rewards were rubbish if you did well or did badly. I did it for a specific reason in order to get to rank 3 and buy Hawksaw, but I'm not sure why you'd play Crucible for the potential rewards, that needs a bit of adjustment IMO

Had another thought. Perhaps the increase in The Last Word usage is that more people are chasing the year 2 MOT and doesn't this particular task form part of the Crucible questline?
I picked up the "use The Last Word in Crucible" quest yesterday and I now recall folks like LC, Adam, Reese and Pappers all chasing this about a day after TTK was released
Or is it a requirement for The Chaperone, don't really know to be honest - I don't have a year 2 Word and I won't be spending marks to get one either as I didn't use it in year 1
