Good that you got your sniper back Sims.

Vendor is a god roll, but the sniper itself is only really good for 6s. It's not powerful enough for PvE or res sniping, so leaves it with very few applications. It reminds me of Praedyths Revenge in year 1 Trials. You know they wouldn't even try for head shots, they'd rely on 2 body shotting you as it was almost like a long range scout rifle.

I just got one drop with Ambush/Snapshot/Unflinching. fk the headshots, with those perks I'll go for the double body shot methodbiggrin (although I'll run out of ammo pretty quick!)

I actually think I prefer mine to the vendor roll. It has two of my favourite scopes in ambush and shortgaze, lots more stability and triple tap gives it some (but not much) PvE utility. or some extra PvP utility if you're any good at chaining headshots, which I'm not!

Another varied morning: I had some success with Warlock, got my bounties all done and he's now rank 3. Managed to get another 335 Weyloran's drop as well, this time a solar, but the perks were garbage so I'll hold that off ready to use as infusion fuel.

With bounties all done, I swapped to the Titan but tried a build I've not used before, one recommended by a chap who had been destroying with it in the previous game, and one he'd "borrowed" from a youtuber whose name escapes me. Essentially, you run a Titan with Universal Remote and the high impact sniper of your choice. However, you don't run striker, you opt for defender, and you use the No Backup Plans exotic gauntlets and set Ward of Dawn to Weapons of Light.

Now, here comes the meat and potatoes of the build; you use your Titan skating to close gaps really, really fast and use the Universal Remote to burst people down. Doing so activates Force Barrier and with the correct perks selected, this basically gives you another 95 health. What's more (and I genuinely had no idea this was even a thing) one of the Defender perks allows Force Barrier to regenerate like a health bar. With a max strength build your melee ability has a 25 second cooldown, so you've basically got a permanent over shield and have nearly 300 health, half as much again as most of your opponents.

You might think ranged opponents would cause you bother, but with Weapons of Light activated, a high impact sniper can one-shot to the body. Yes, that's right, pop your bubble and you only need a body shot with your sniper to kill them outright, so that's not really an issue either. Defender also has access to suppression grenades, so if you see a Sunbreaker, Arc Blade or Stormcaller rushing at you, simply hit them with a grenade and it'll knock them right out of their super. See a Titan charging for a fist of Panic? Throw a grenade, he's now shotgun fodder.

On paper, it sounds really, really strong, and the guy I was playing with was absolutely wrecking with it. Me though? Not so much. I can't snipe for toffee anyway, so even hitting body shots isn't that simple and you need to be really, really aggressive to get the most out of the build. Plus, you need to be able to control Titan skating in order to close gaps on all the pulse and scout rifles on most of the maps, and whilst I can occasionally get the timing right, I'm not in any way consistent. Put simply, I'm not good enough to get the best out of it, even if it was a lot of fun to mess around with.

(If any one wants to give it a try, the build was; suppressor grenade / Increased Control / WoL / Unbreakable / Codex II / Relentless / Codex VI / Untouchable)

On the plus side it got me a Zen Meteor in one my last few games, so the only exotic I'm now missing is the Chaperone. Given what a ball ache that quest line is, I think it unlikely I'll ever complete the collection in Year 2!

Yes, I did have to wash my hands and say a prayer each match before using Universal Remote, just to confirm that I wasn't selling my eternal soul to Satan himself. Apparently, as long as I'm not an invisible, blink-shotgunning Blade Dancer with a Party Crasher and a Mida that I'm all good.

Haven't played much today, but did edit a couple of clips showing how ridiculous the lag has been at times. Skill Based Match Making may be less frustrating in theory than getting matched with a group who are clearly far better than you, but at least you can try and learn from them. With lag, you have almost no way to predict what the hell is going to happen!

Wow. I've had a couple of finishing shots through walls but nothing THAT bad!! Why when I get someone 1 shot and they get behind cover, they're safe, yet I seem to lose half my health and die whilst behind cover?

Anyway, LC's approach to IB:

LC, I need to thank you; having finished the daily IB bounties on the hunter and titan, I swapped back to the warlock and fancied a change from shotguns. I recalled you mentioning sidearms as being a decent counter to the constant rush of shotguns this IB, so I dug out a couple of sidearms for a laugh.

Holy st.

They're Godly!

Ok, so I've got a couple of fantastic rolls on them, the New Monarchy Conviction with Sureshot, Zen Moment, Quickdraw, Feeding Frenzy and the Queen's Choice with Crowd Control, Snapshot/armor piercing, and Feeding Frenzy. I'm not sure which is the better, but they're both fantastic, the Conviction perhaps being fractionally easier to manage the vertical recoil on, but my very first game with the weapon on the warlock I went on a ten kill streak and managed a four-point-something K/D overall, which is way beyond my norm, plus I managed to take out both a BladeDancer and a Stormcaller as they approached.

I've ignored them for almost a year, but tomorrow I shall be getting more acquainted with them. LC, thanks again!

They're a great partner to Universal Remote as well! wink

Charge around the map shotgunning people and switch to a sidearm if you need to finish them off. Not my usual style of play but good fun if you want to let off steam!

Got all three characters to rank 5 in IB now, and as a result of a chest piece reward for my hunter, I now have all three classes at 335. Stimps, LC, Matty, Masquerade, thanks for your assistance earlier. Running as a fireteam and backing each other up with call outs as well as firepower, made those few matches a comparative doddle.

Good IB week for me, it finally dropped me a 335 ghost, infact 2 of them! My Titan's now at 334 and just need a 335 artifact and chest piece to hit 335.

Iron Banner last week was a lot of fun when it wasn't an absolute lag-fest - there's still no game that can match Destiny's gun play, IMO.

The amount of progression available through IB alone seems limited though - it rarely dropped anything other than boots and sniper for me, which means once you have the maximum level drop available (5 levels above your average) at your current level for both items, if you don't tick over into the next light level, you can't progress any further until you get the level 5 reward and even then you might get a duplicate sniper or boots. frown

So, despite getting all my characters to level 5 with plenty of drops, I still couldn't get any of them above level 325.

I tried Iron Banner but such is my aversion to Crucible, I just couldn't stick with it as I actually found it quite boring if I'm honest. At the time and with Crucible gear equipped my light was also a good 20 points down on most of the opposition and that hurt

Still back to good old PvE and a run through CoE with Sims last night thumbup Weapons package dropped me a 325 scout rifle and then a level up package straight after dropped a 324 pulse rifle - I think that's all of the weapons I've had now

Sadly didn't move the light level from 319, just a bit further up the 319 scale smile

Don't quite know why but it has me laughing out loud. It's little things like this that happen every so often that make this game extra special.

Stimps, that's brilliant.

Anyone else having issues post-update with connecting? I keep getting error messages when trying to access the Tower, and struggling to connect with other other people when joining a fireteam. It's getting a bit annoying.

There was a note on the Destiny site about them investigating a connection issue after the patch.

Bungie tweeted a couple of hours ago about continuing to investigate reports of BEAVER errors, perhaps that's it? But I didn't have any issues when I was playing during the day today

hehe that's pretty cool and funny at the same time. Coincidentally, that's the same pulse rifle I picked up last night - Aegis of the Reef - Hawksaw archetype apparently, but seems better recoil wise (3 pulse, vertical recoil). Perfect balance, snapshot and hidden hand perks aren't bad either

Perfect for the Crucible in fact ... oh right, yeah. Nevermind

A new patch was pushed out yesterday so hopefully those sporadic connection errors get resolved now
