Festival of the Lost is upon us, and there's finally a use for the box of raisins we got last year.

On an personal note, I've got some family visiting at the moment and one of my cousins is quite into Destiny as well, though he's an Xbox 360 user. I've said to him he is allowed to use the PS4 whilst he's with us on the understanding that he doesn't delete anything. Not something you should need to say to a 38 year old, but he's severely autistic so has the mental capacity of a ten year old. He did say he'd be really upset if anything happened to his own item stash and did understand why I'd be angry if he did anything to my own.

Basically, if you see me online at slightly odd times over the next few days - in the small hours, or during the day time for instance - then it's probably not me. Please, don't send me game or party invites - I don't want my cousin freaking out. If it's me, I'll pop into party chat myself.

Sims - noted, cheers

Festival of the Lost - didn't participate in this last time it was around but thought I'd give it a crack. Superblack shader is pretty cool as is the Broom Sparrow but aside from that, what is the point of the masks? Masks that hammer your light level and then ask you to do a heroic strike in one whilst sitting at 335 (in my case) to complete a quest. Just no

Stage 1 of that quest was Crucible kills whilst wearing a mask - amazingly I got this done in two Control matches and even got a Cryptic Dragon to drop ... at 339 light because of the stupid mask. Yes, should have switched to my helmet at the end, didn't think of that at the time frown

Collectors rejoice, gotta get them all - well yeah, but you'll be handing over real cash to buy silver to buy the damn RNG treasure boxes and even then duplicates are plentiful according to a few sources, no smart loot here folks

Nope, don't get it at all. If the masks were purely cosmetic, then fine it's a bit of fun, bit of a laugh but they aren't.

Apologies to Stimps for almost scuppering the daily heroic yesterday after he invited me in at the end bosses. No comms available and me being a fool trying to axe the enemies whilst wearing a Saladin mask and dying oh so easily due to feeble light level

Last year I ground out FotL because it was possible to get almost all the masks without paying any money. Unless the purchasable masks from Eva change daily (haven't looked today) then it won't be possible.

It's a nice little distraction, but just a bit rehashed of last years which is a shame.

I did all the festival yesterday and wished I hadn't bothered because I got sod all for doing it, unless I am missing something.

I didn't bother with the last festival or sparrow racing. Seemed a bit of a waste of time, so shan't this time either.

Note to self: Try and get into chat with Sim's cousin and get him to delete all his charactershehe

SRL was bloody awesome! And at the time it was dropping max light regardless of yours once you'd levelled up your SRL rank, so was a great way to max out Helmet and Class Item. Cannot wait for it to return.

Moog - do the heroic strike as normal and when the boss is on low health, change to the mask.

idea Ah, OK - I didn't know that trick worked, makes it a lot more do-able in that case

Fell foul of the mask again today - wasn't looking to be but ended up in the Forge with 4 others. Figured I'd switch to the Saladin mask and piggy back on someone else's axe kills right at the end of a offering

Did so, didn't get any kill credit so switched back to the helmet. The offering ended right at that point and a new shell popped up. Yes, could do with an upgrade. Looked at it ... 336 light, bugger. Must have locked in the reward whilst I still had that stupid mask on. Note to self, stop messing around with the masks if you are doing something that can drop higher light items teacher

Forge - there is definitely something going on with the types of encounters that drop. Last week, could hardly get a single Servitor encounter (had a bounty for them). Smashed through loads today and now I have a Vandal Forge bounty and just a single one of those showed up (and that was from my stored offering from last week)

Fair enough. I've always felt that the sparrow mechanics were shonky enough that it wasn't worth bothering with. Max level gear is uncharacteristically generous for Destiny though! I'm high enough light now that HM and Trials is doable, so have no need to grind the last few levels. Might have a look if it's an easy route to max light though.

My bro said something about a Raidathon. Could be a good opportunity for anyone who hasn't done any of them, or wanted flawless achievement.

Did the raid on heroic with some randoms earlier. It's literally just more of everything and no revives. If you know the battles well enough it's not all that difficult really.

I only tried it to get the sniper at the end of Vosiks and we ended up getting to Aksis phase 2 without wiping. No sniper though, only two rubbish hand cannons at the end...

Your cousin is a bit handy, Sims. I noticed him raiding the other day and then one of your characters rocking an outbreak prime last night. How much to borrow him for a weekend to win some crucible for me?

The guy is a freaking machine. I know it's kind of a Rain Man cliche, but he's like some kind of savant with a PlayStation controller.

I asked him to try and run the Raid as he's familiar with LFG and wanted to play it as Hunter, which I pretty much despise, so was happy to let him do it. Not only did he beat it at the first time of asking, he got the entire Outbreak Prime quest done in a day and all that without communicating via party chat (he'll listen, but not talk).

He's not in today, but should be about for part of saturday, before leaving mid saturday, so I'm thinking about asking him to run Trials for me - it might be the only way my account ever gets flawless! tongue out

Just a quick heads up, if any one is still holding on to an Eirene package for Gunsmith, he's got a fantastic Rank 1 roll which includes Triple Tap, Casket Mag and Life Support. This essentially gives you a high-impact sniper with a five round magazine plus the ability to get an additional two additonal shots if you can proc Triple Tap twice in the clip. That's seven shots without reloading if your aim is true, which lets you put out some serious DPS.

So had a day of finishing some stuff I should have done ages ago. I am now the proud wielder of a year 3 Gally and I finished all the steps on the Sleeper Simulant quest, handed it back to Banshee and waiting for next step.

The hardest bit was finding a warsat event on Mars, finally found one in the buried city.

Also broke through the 370 barrier but progress seems to slow down now as blues are decrypting at 365.

Legendary engrams will be your best friend until you hit 385.

Each character you have is guaranteed at least one Legendary engram from their first public event of the day, so if you have three characters you can knock out three engrams effortlessly. You also get 15 legendary marks, so that's a nice bonus.

Store the engrams then decrypt them on your highest light character, remembering to stop and equip each item if its a higher light than what you already have.

Stimps, sorry I didn't get on much yesterday. I ended up doing a normal mode Wrath of the Machine clear with a bunch of randoms, but felt rather unwell having beaten it so ended up going to bed around 7pm. You know, life and soul of the party and all that!

Sims' suggestion is solid and is what I've been doing for a while now. Use destinypublicevents.com to track down the public events

Throw in the occasional legendary from killing one of the yellow bars that spawn and it's quite an effective method. Add in bounties, Archon's Forge and even buying a legendary engram from Rahool if needed boosts you up fairly quickly.

I also transfer all blue engrams to my Titan for decrypting in case they convert to a legendary or even exotic item, although I've never had an exotic drop that way, hell even 3oC seems to hate me at the moment, haven't seen an exotic engram in ages

I'm at 378 now, Gjally up at 382 as for some reason heavy engrams seem to decrypt at several LL higher consistently

There is one really obvious thing I didn't mention, and that's the new Raid. In the 370s you'll be absolutely fine all the way until the end boss, and even then if you have a strong team helping dish out damage and as normal mode Wrath of the Machine can drop up to 385, and the abundance of treasure chests means you have plenty of chance for loot in addition to that gained from looting the bosses.

Moog, I ran it yesterday with a group of 390s and we got it done in an hour and a half, give or take, and that was only because they were cocking around trying to fathom out some yet-undiscovered puzzle in the room before you drop down into the final boss chamber. Point is, with a reasonable group, you should be able to smash through it inside an hour. If you're up for it next week, I'm still happy to run normal mode on at least one character. No, the loot is essentially useless, but the ability to still gain siva key fragments means it not entirely wasted, plus it's just a really fun raid.

Yeah, I'm up for running it even just to say I've done it once. Finding folks to do it might be a challenge though, Destiny has become the Marie Celeste

Good old Forge. Less than an hour in there tonight and 2 LL gained, 382 now. Just in time for when more or less everyone has buggered off ... 382, pffft that's so 3 weeks ago

385 is a goal for me and I'm nearly there as I'm 384 now. Just need some mitts & special at 385 and I'm there thanks to a lucky 386 artifact from the Forge (love that place) and a ghost from Vanguard

I've been lucky perhaps but progression has been rapid of late thanks to 3 x public events each day. Need to find something to spend marks on though as I hate topping out. The Wormwood from FWC looks good although I'll probably blow marks on an engram if it doesn't drop tomorrow as I have the Trespasser

Raid ready I reckon smile What's that, missed the boat you say .....
