Ok so having used my shiny new gold hand cannon a bit today, I take everything back, it is bloody awesome. Lots of punch, can take out most high level normal enemies in 1-2 shots, has 8 shots in the chamber and the actions when you use it are brilliant. Fanning the hammer cowboy style, reloading the chamber and you even give it an occasional twirl now and then, just for added coolness factor. It's not even fully upgraded yet. Youngsvr you were right smilecool

As for the HMG, the one I have is Void damage but not a Swarm. I'm not that impressed with it tbh. It has 72 rounds but even unloading a full clip at a Praetorian doesn't take it down, I need to find something better.

On a positive note though my new level 20 void sniper with explosive bullets is working very well.
Add me up mate , im on now Dirty__Chez1988

That's the thing about the harder missions like the nightfall and weekly - no matter how strong your character/weapons or how good a player you are, they are almost impossible to do solo.
Not sure I agree with that, if you play them carefully they're more than doable solo. The fact that the enemies largely have half to a third less health than if you play with 2 or 3 players means that they're arguably as tricky with any number of players.

Case in point, this weeks strike, if you decide to snipe at the final boss and not jump down, it spawns a minotaur behind you every 15 seconds or so to try and force you off, with one person it takes a couple of void sniper shots to take this down, then you can get back to the boss, with two people you're looking at least 3 sniper shots and a few shots from a primary to take it down, meaning it can close in on you with that extra time and there's a greater risk of you getting wiped.

I will agree that having an extra person to help out with revives is good, but if they're dead, you've still got to do it solo, but also cope with enemies with much more health.
Ah, didn't realise the enemies were modified when you played co-op, thought they were the same solo or 3 up.

I'd genuinely like to see anyone do this week's Nightfall solo though, I know it's not impossible, but it would take a huge amount of skill and not a small amount of luck to do it.

I'm struggling to see how next week's one (Mars, I'm assuming) will be possible even 3 up - it's difficult enough as a level 28 strike! eek

I did it solo, granted I died about 4 times working out how to do it. You're right though, the Mars one, or the Phogoth one are both ones I'd not fancy trying solo, as the margin for error is much lower. This one, the Archon Priest strike and Sepiks Prime are all doable by yourself.

Chaps - map of oracles below. We only have a few seconds to kill each one.

Recommended positions for each player are shown as G1, G2 etc.

Good work on the raid tonight chaps - I know it got a bit frustrating at the end and the random reward drops weren't kind, but we got a hell of a long way into the Raid considering for many people it was their first go.

That room we were in was the final room, and we only had about 3 phases left to go to complete the entire Raid! smile

Let's give it another crack over the weekend and it resets each Tuesday morning, so we can essentially do what we did tonight every week from now on and get those random reward drops - hopefully a bit better than one exotic between 6 of us!!! mad

We very nearly were lost a few times in that labyrinth! laugh

You have to take your hat off to the guys who worked out how to do it from scratch - all I (and pretty much everyone else) has done for the first few times is just tag along and watch how other more experienced players do it and then copy as best we can! hehe

I'm just gutted we didn't get a few more weapon/armour drops between us - would have been nice for all the effort we put in, but sometimes the raid is mean like that. I did it all the way through on Monday with my Titan and got nothing but shards and energy. Did it on Tuesday with my Hunter and got two pieces of armour and a legendary shotgun!

I'm impressed at how well we all did though - a little more practice, maybe ranking up a little and getting our weapons a little higher level and it will be a cake walk. smile

...Who's up for doing it on the level 30 setting?! winklaugh

Chaps - a walkthrough for the Raid to make sense of what we did tonight and what we need to do in the final room.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/destiny/2...

We got to Boss #4, phase 2: Collect the relics and defend the conflux.

We got the first portal open and the first relic back a couple of times, but couldn't get the second portal (on the right hand side) open.

When we manage to do both sides and get the second relic back, that's the end of that phase and we move onto the final phase of the raid - killing Atheon! smile

Sorry I couldn't join you guys, I was part way into the Nightfall strike (which we managed as 3 first timers smile ) and, then had to call it a night as I'm working today. Definitely want to give it a try over the weekend though.

ETA - I have enough strange coins for the exotic sniper rifle and I'm quite tempted but, I don't really snipe! My go to special weapon is the fusion rifle of whatever element is required. Is it worth it just because it is exotic (I really want an exotic weapon) or, would I be better off hanging onto the coins and hoping something better comes up next week?

I'm doing an exotic bounty at the moment for a pulse rifle (bad juju I think) but, it doesn't look all that good - v small clip, constant reloading etc.) So, I'm thinking of ditching it before the PvP element (which is to get 10,000 xp). Anyone tried the gun?

Had a great time, thanks for the handholding Youngsyr! I think I read somewhere that the first team through the raid took something like 14 hours - I can see why!!! Must invest in some more ammo synths before we dive back in though....

The exotic sniper that Xur has this weekend (Patience and Time) is a good sniper rifle with a couple of nice perks (constant radar and invisibility when aiming down sight), but it's element is arc which is probably the least useful (so far) in the game.

I'd say it's a nice weapon to have in your arsenal, but it's not an absolute must.

Also worth mentioning that with exotic weapons they take a huge amount of XP to unlock each slot on their progression tree, so it's best to get one that you will know will work for you and concentrate on levelling it up.

The XP accelerators that Xur sells for 1 strange coin are worth picking up if you have an exotic in the right category - this week he's selling them for hand cannons, fusion rifles and heavy machine guns, I think.

1 strange coin buys you 5x boosters for one weapon type. Each one lasts 30 mins. Best way to use them is to complete 5 bounties, but not turn them in to the Bounty dude, so you've got all 5 bounties ready to turn in at once. Then use the XP booster and turn in all your bounties.

Using a booster just before the end of a weekly or nightfall (making sure you have the right weapon equipped) is also worth while as those missions are big XP.

Guvernator - see my post about XP boosters above - Xur has them for the hand cannon this week and it'll speed up the progression of your shiney new exotic immensely. smile

The first guys through the raid was such an impressive achievement - working out how all the mechanics play out must have taken a lot of trial and error. We haven't seen the most complex team mechanics yet as they come in the final stage, but everyone has a vital part to play in killing the final boss and there's little room for error.

I'm very confident we can do it though, in all honesty I thought we might just get to the Templar (the bit with the green blobs) and no further yesterday, but we got a lot further into it than that, which shows we've got some strong players. smile

On previous run throughs I've been on with randoms, teams seem to limit raid newbies to a max of 1 low level or 2 high level per team, but we had a lot more than that and even our "experienced" players were not experts and we still got through the stages quite quickly up until the last room.

I was carried along (pretty much dragged!) at break neck speed with a team last week that did the entire thing in about 90 minutes! I reckon we'll be able to do similar in a couple of weeks. biggrin

No worries thainy, hopefully we can get around 10 of us with a bit of raid experience and can then run it a couple of times a week.

Finally got to level 28 this morning, now the long slog to level 29. I also got given an exotic bounty this morning but it's for another hand cannon, the one I have is already pretty awesome so a little disappointed by that tbh. Xur is also selling exotic chest armour again this week which I already have so looks like I'm not getting much further this week.

When is the next PH'er VoG run? I think that's the only mission in the game that I haven't completed at the moment.
