It's a rare item, starts as common, turns into an exotic by the end.As for worth the hassle? I would have said yes, but I think if I don't get it in the next few tries I'm giving up.
I've got the 100 headshots bounty on and have been doing 1 headshot per try, I'm just about to complete the bounty, may have been the odd extra headshot every so often, but that's still going on for 70+ attempts now at least
edit: ok that't it, 100 headshots, even went through a few times before getting that last one, and nothing, diddly squat. The RNG gods must hate me. I'm done.

It can drop from any random "blade" hive so the ones you see on patrol etc as well.
You *probably* would have noticed it because it doesn't drop as an engram - it drops like an end of boss reward so you get the chirp/noise and the little square icon appears on the right.
The gun itself is terrible, it takes a clip and a half to take down one (lvl 26) thrall with headshots. You have to hold down on the analogue stick because the stability is terrible too.
What's needed to upgrade it to exotic? didn't realise that only drops on the hard raid?
The gun itself ONLY seems to level when killing Hive. So you can't just equip it when you turn in bounties...you have to go and actively kill low level hive with it.
I'll probably park it until I have my suros and IB levelled up. I'm more interested in raiding than collecting weapons so I only need a few really good ones. The irony was I only started the mission because Wuddie wanted to get it!

That would only take 30 mins or so to get closer to an endgame gun. Worth it IMO although I'd rather have a leveled up icebreaker than a legendary eideon ally
