I really don't mind developers charging for their work, we are all here to make money and get on..
What does piss me off and this is a global problem not just bungievision's is the ludicrous valuations these companies are putting on this stuff, dlc for the price of a full blown game!! $/£20 for a few items that makes your character look different, X$'s for skins for your guns it's all just money grabbing bullst and the longer we as gamers continue to put up with this and buy it the more the games companies are going to push the limits.
There would uproar if warburtons decided bread was now gonna cost £10 a loaf!! So why should gaming companies continue to overvalue all of these cosmetic items!?
The difference is that we'd all then buy Hovis or whatever.

Because there's nothing quite like Destiny and because of it's addictive nature people will still pay it.
I think I'm over it though, with a st connection, longer commute and a few key releases soon I don't think I'll be putting anywhere near the same amount of time in (that and the fact that there is not an awful lot left to do now).
I think the last few days have been a bit of a wakeup call for some and as a lot of the big releases are out toward the end of the year I can see a lot moving away. That and a realisation of what we want/expect/were led to believe Destiny would be, probably won't be the case until Destiny 2.
Not that I'm bhing and moaning. I've had good value thus far, I just can't see that continuing and I'm just going to exercise my right not to play it any more (doing a Hovis!).

It's basic supply & demand though, isn't it? I am quite sure they've put a lot of effort in to determining price points and what people WILL pay for the 'expensive' expansions or other DLC. Unfortunately it's a business model the end-user gamer has demonstrated they'll pay for, which is why we now see so much of it with season passes, expansions, day-one DLC, etc. If the first company to try that had found there was no money from it then it wouldn't be the business practice is it today. It sucks but it's us gamers that have justified the pricing by choosing to buy!
I'm one of those suckers justifying their pricing, unfortunately. I think £40 for the expansion sounds very poor value (from what I've heard so far on the content vs. the original game at the same price) ... but I know I'll end up buying it because I WANT the next expansion, I WANT to be in at the beginning of it, and as much as I feel Destiny has fallen short of what it should and could have been it has still been tremendous value for money given the hours I've spent enjoying it. I'm prepared to feel ripped off to get that experience
I wouldn't mind if they had just said "here's some cosmetic stuff - it's £20" - I'll just happily ignore it.
It's the fact that some people (not me) were annoyed that the only way they could get cosmetic stuff was re-buying the entire game and that Bungie were taking advantage of them...so Bungies apology is to say "oh we're really sorry - we'll back down - you CAN buy it separately....oh yeah - it's £20!"
I think it's mainly the emotes as well - this is the first and only time we've seen a way to get different dances/emotes and people do seem to pretty universally like doing a little dance at the end of a raid/strike/poe...
If there was another/different way to get different emotes i don't think people would be quite so fussed.
Simo - shame we are losing you (hopefully only until TTK tempts you back) - have had a lot of fun reading out your messages to other people whilst you do the hard work and clear the raid/level!! :-)

Had my first go on crota last night with a few of you. was only normal but not been on since the last DLC and OMG how easy was that.
POE level 34 only gave me the Amor core and Etheric light I needed apart from that nothing. Nothing from 2 nightfalls either ahhh apart from Stange coins and Motes of light. Not good for me so far

They done exactly what they should have done from the start, give every one the option to buy this stuff without having to repurchase old content.
Any everyone is still bhing. The mind boggles. From reading the responses on Reddit I don't think they would be happy unless the TTK was given away for free with shares in Activision, and a weekly reach around by Deej.

Teehee :-)
Tank - I think the problem is that their offer to sell the items at £20 was positioned as an apology (as it's in the same statement as Luke's apology) rather than a straight forward commercial offer.
As a commercial offer it's just comically bad and people could just ignore it, as an apology it's just downright insulting (to people that wanted an apology).

Anyone up for some raids?
Need to do Vault (any level) and Scrotal on Hard.
Have you tried reddit fire teams and lfg? Its always better to do stuff with people on here but they can be an OK backup.Need to do Vault (any level) and Scrotal on Hard.
Reddit fire teams has been fine for me so far, apart from some miscommunications on my part.

With any non consumable product (like software) there is no such thing as supply & demand.Unfortunately it's a business model the end-user gamer has demonstrated they'll pay for, which is why we now see so much of it with season passes, expansions, day-one DLC, etc. If the first company to try that had found there was no money from it then it wouldn't be the business practice is it today. It makes no difference whether they sell 1 copy or 1 billion, once the software is written there is minimal additional cost in selling it, especially DLC, as the servers hosting it need to be up anyway.
You're other assessment of what they think people will pay for it, however is spot on, whatever they think people will pay would be the correct answer. And yes it's all our own doing, if DLC never took off, we wouldn't be here in the 1st place, however it might also mean that additional stuff would never have been written / released. It might also mean that games would be more complete at launch so as to sell more than the competition, however now the genie is out of the bottle it's never going back in.
