Destiny (Xbox One)

Just ran a strike with Baryonyx, aiming to do a nightfall but I went onto vanguard heroic by accident, whoops. Still, I got a stload of engrams at the end, one of which decrypted into a The Last Word at 290, chuffed doesn't even begin to describe it! Work towards the Chaperone begins.
I haven't even used my Three of Coins that I've purchased yet, I've got 20 ready to pop, I'll be grinding the "Ultra Knight" hidden on the dreadnaut later tonight. Productivity!

I finished Fallen S.A.B.R.E for the first time, it popped up in the Vanguard Heroic playlist while I was grinding my legendary marks. I still think this strike alone stands out for difficulty, the fight at the start around the warsat is hard if your team don't spread out enough, it doesn't seem to speed the transmat up by having more than one player in the circle, so I left my guys to get slaughtered while defending as I sat on overwatch shredding enemies from the ridgeline. After that it's pretty plain sailing as long as the randoms work together in the electric corridor and cover the relic runner.
The boss fight against the giant shank is a right tt though, particularly in the final phase when he is spawning sniper shanks from the vents high up the walls. So many additional enemies to fight, with practically nothing in the way of cover and loads of electric traps. It took us a few goes, it got pretty damn hairy at times but we did it in the end.
Now to do it all over again tomorrow as part of the Sleeper Simulant quest!

I did Kings Fall tonight, obliterating Oryx and saving the solar system, for now.
What a feeling, what an incredible gaming experience. We had a part of mostly 300ish players, with me at 293 and another guy at 290. Amongst the experienced players there was some discussion as to whether it would be possible to do it with two lower level players, but we had a pop. It was easy for the most part opening the gate and the Warpriest fight went without trouble, the first jump puzzle was a total pain, I never made it across and eventually warped once enough of the team had completed it. I think I'd need to watch a video on it. The area where this puzzle takes place is spectacular beyond words, it's one of the most amazing scenes I've seen in a video game.
The area where you have to charge power at the edges and run back to the middle to discharge was easy, I got a pair of 304 boots here, equipping them didn't even move my light level.
Golgoroth wasn't too bad, since I squeezed into a hole and would draw his rage, then I was counting down for my team so they could rip him and get to safety before he turned back on them. He got rekt on the first try. The following jumping puzzle wasn't too bad, I could actually see my way through this one and made it through easily.
The daughters of Oryx were blown over very quickly, I need to read a guide on how to fight them as I'm not entirely sure what we did there.
Oryx himself arrived next for a truly spectacular fight. At least, it was spectacular the first dozen or so times we tried it. I was in the middle on ogrewatch and the other guys were doing the platforms / detonating the corrupt lights, but my guns could barely scratch the ogres, but we were coping. We kept messing up the return to platforms phase as people were getting confused on where the needed to go, who was running for the relic etc. After 40 minutes or so, the Yorkshireman in the party dropped out saying we couldn't do it and another guy left as his connection went to st, he couldn't party chat and he red-barring. Two high level players, a 309 and a 310 were brought in, one of whom took charge and directed our strategy. He stayed in the middle on ogrewatch and had the other guys doing the platforms as necessary. When it came to dropping Oryx, his Black Spinde was giving 52,000 a shot into the Taken King's heart, whereas I could barely do 800 damage a round with my Hawksaw. I cleared the eye turrets to help my team get a clear run at their platforms. With each attempt we got slicker and smoother, leading to the section where we were taken to the dark dimension - the first time we saw this, we had him beat. Ass suitably whooped in the dark, back onboard the Dreadnaught we caned him one last time for victory.
I was feeling pure euphoria and elation at this point, thanking my team for carrying a n00b to the end despite me only really being any use for add clearing. I got the raid bone set auto rifle and "Mouth of Ur" helmet, which is supposed to be pretty rare. I snapped a screenshot of Oryx's body floating off into space for a souvenir. Upon return to the tower I decoded my engrams (all crap) and collected my raid emblem and armour shader, as well as 310 artifact from Eris.
So concludes one of the best things I've ever done in some 23 years of playing computer games. Absolutely staggering. But I'm only 298 light now, so I better get back to it...

An awesome achievement and also an awesome write up - I'm glad you survived the trials of LFG as well, as the groups are generally ok but can be a mixed bag (e.g. the two guys that left)What a feeling, what an incredible gaming experience. All that's left to say is - welcome to Destiny! :-)
P.S. - yes the helmet is pretty rare! treasure it!
I don't think it's too hard, just the hardest of the vanguard heroic playlist. Three decent players with mics should be able to do it pretty easily, the problems arise when it's in the vanguard heroic playlist and you're playing it with teams with no mics, if they don't know the strategies it can be a pain.
Talk about a pain, I was on with Baryonyx tonight, using the Destiny public events website to reach the warsats on Earth, the moon and Mars for the Sleeper Simulant, only to realise once we'd done that lot that he hadn't completed the mission where you have to climb the Cosmodrome tower with a timer and beat the bosses at the top. Doh, still it was a chance to test out my fancy new raid rifle and good practice for knocking out the same task again tomorrow. If all goes to plan we'll be doing Fallen S.A.B.E.R on Wednesday and collecting our shiny Sleeper Simulants on Thursday. Then we get to find out why everyone regards them so highly, even if Black Spindle is the weapon to have lately.

In any event, it's remarkable how Destiny has transformed from being just a load of rubbish into something quite incredible. I would pay for any new content now, because I'm hooked. I'm going to use that matchmaking forum to try and find a raid team today and bit a raid around lunchtime.
I'm getting up early to clean the house and play Call Of Duty in the meantime, once I get to level 55 on that I can sling it!
