For the raid - Spindle and ToM are the two weapons to make it a lot easier. A team with 5 or 6 of each will rip through normal no bother and it would make hard pretty easy. Most LFG teams seem to only have 1 or 2 of each though...more ToM's than spindles as well...

Bungie have just pushed an update. Iron banana gear looks quite cool - but at 280 would need some infusing....if I were looking further ahead I would be tempted to collect the IB gear now and then vault it ready to infuse it up whenever the next light level increase comes in.

The crucible quests to unlock the weekly bounties (and access to 300+ rewards for completing that bounty) are now much easier but still a bit grindy. You'll need to play a handful of matches in every crucible mode to unlock it all.

I have managed to avoid destiny for a few days....but I keep feeling it call me....

I just did my first Nightfall strike, with two randoms who didn't have mics, it was the Taniks strike, which isn't too bad. It was a struggle at times as one of them was far too aggressive and kept dying in places that made recovering him a pain. The modifier for slowly charging skills but quick charging grenades made it into an artillery battle at times, we finished Taniks in the end by huddling in the safe area where you enter the room, popping out to grenade him and hiding again. Exciting, engaging gameplay? Hmmm.

For the next Destiny, they definitely need to implement a system for in-game recruitment. It's a fking pain standing in the tower popping off messages to all the randoms coming through, or going on the destinylfg or Bungie forum and asking to join others. Bungie need to accept that A) the vast majority of players are lone wolves who at most have one or two friends playing on a semi-regular basis and need to team up with unknowns in order to take part in raids and nightfalls and that B) the raids, at least on normal mode, are not so impossibly hard that can't complete them with people you don't know well. I recall Bungie's reasoning for no MM in the raids and nightfalls being that they are so hard you need to play them with people you know and communicate with effectively, also adding in that you are less tempted to drop out when the going gets tough if its your mates you're letting down. For the real end-game stuff like King's Fall hard, you probably are going to want a fairly tight group, but in my experience a bunch of randoms with mics who have their heads on straight can cut it pretty well.

Bungie need to get off their high horse on this one, there should be an in-game recruitment board in Destiny two, where you can put your name for activities and other players can see you want to do them and join. If you can open a menu, see parties getting ready to fight and jump straight into them it would be a massive leap forward over the current system of fannying around on forums and shooting off messages to randoms in the hope that someone will take you along, or that you can herd enough cats together to do an activity as the leader. It must be so simple to implement it's a wonder they didn't do it for this game.

Cheers mate, that is what I used in the end. The list was moving so far for recruitment I didn't know how to use it until I noticed the "pause" button!

I've started a second character now, a Titan at level 16, quite enjoying the brawling melee style so far and it's interesting to see the new close quarters oriented perks and skills. My warlock will always be my main character, but I intend to eventually have 3 solid characters for item farming. I'll probably get the titan and Hunter to 290-ish eventually and push my warlock as high as I can.

Titans have tiny arms!

For pickup groups I'd recommend reddit/fireteams - the posts and groups there are generally OK. I think the LFG sites have more traffic but also more variability in type of player!

A good site for you, as you can play regularly is the100.io you join a group of 100 that all play at roughly the same time. Then you can use the site to create and schedule games, and people can join.

Nightfalls are rarely "fun" , but are more about surviving and getting the loot, as well as the reputation bonus in year 1. They're in a bit of a weird spot in year 2 as they're only useful when you're at a fairly narrow light level range.

The only fun ones used to be solar burn versions with a gjallarhorn..3 people could take down taniks in less than 30 seconds.

What a productive session, I did the gunsmith weapon tests and hit rank 3, got the quest for the Tlaloc exotic warlock-specific scout rifle and polished off the 100 kills with telemetry, broke down two legendary scouts and picked up that sweet ass Tlaloc. A quick play with it suggests it could be very, very strong so I infused it with my Treads Upon Stars legendary scout. What a weapon this thing could be.

Baryonyx jumped on and we headed into the hard Fallen S.A.B.E.R, got matchmade with a random who turned out to be decent, ran the strike without any restarts, frankly made the whole thing seem rather easy. There was almost no drama at any point, funny how mics make everything easier, when everyone knows their job! We all got the Sleeper Simulant frame, had a dance and returned to orbit. I've only had a quick play with the Simulant but it's a great toy, I'm unsure where to go with regards to infusing it though. Is it flexible and useful enough to be worth feeding a lot, or do you guys prefer something more flexible like a powerful LMG? I've got a 280 Thunderlord that might be worth boosting up, I can afford to run an exotic in the heavy slot as my raid assault rifle is my primary, I just don't know if having a boosted Sleeper Simulant is worth it for anything other than smashing raid bosses. My heart and head thinks it might be worth it, it could be time to say goodbye to the Diluvian X10/4 I've been using for so long.

I'm not sure the SS is *that* useful in the raid, but I haven't seen any definite tests on DPS of the SS versus using a sniper...

To be fair - one of the two guys, that two-manned Oryx hard mode, was using an SS to shoot Oryx and stagger him....so I guess that's a recommendation?

It's a cool gun though!

Is anyone grinding iron banner this week? I kind of fancy it...

Yeah, it was really neat getting the Sleeper Simulant this afternoon. I'd wanted one since I saw the quest line had been solved, but it had always been at the back of my mind and I'd never got round to doing it (I still haven't even done the quest to get a sword, despite being at 294 light). It wasn't all that difficult as I had 3/4 fusion rifle frames by the time I read the quest steps, and despite doing the Warsat collection twice, it wasn't too arduous as we used a public events tracker and waited in different areas to make sure we were on scene when the Warsats dropped. Even the S.A.B.E.R strike wasn't too bad, although I now know it's one I haven't done all the way through. I did it as a normal strike, dropping in after entering the vault, so I was surprised at the amount of heat that came done at the Warsat section at the start! The guy playing with Mastodon and I seemed a fair player too, and despite him not talking he seemed to be listening and working with us. Even during the last boss fight, we managed to keep on top of the adds, working with cover and shooting down the Sniper Shanks when they appeared. Things got a bit hairy for me when some stealth vandals armed with wire rifles got into the fray, but we kept on top of it and won out in the end.

The SS seems pretty brutal, even with no upgrades on it and I'll certainly work the upgrade tree but I'm not sure if I'll put any shards into it. I'll need to see if I can get King's Fall done next week and get a better primary out of that than my Zhalo Supercell, which really has become my favourite Destiny gun. I have a 'Not Like The Others' scout rifle which is stronger than my Zhalo, but even with it's explosive rounds, doesn't do crowd control quite the same! Plus, I have a 296 machinegun which is a right blast in crowd control events. It has 'Feeding Frenzy', and the reload speed increases massively after a kill, meaning it saws through bosses and adds alike. Hmm, I'm sure given a couple of days I'll have even more amazing gear to agonise over.

I am at least off work for a week after this weekend, so I'll be taking the opportunity to play then. I was reading about the exotic sword quest earlier, now that sounds like a lot of hard work!

Exotic sword quest is ok - the two hours of mindlessly collecting materials is the worst part...probably best to have some TV on in the background or something!

When you get to that bit, the special items only drop from nodes, not chests, and make sure you're on the right planet collecting the right type of nodes!

I'd suggest solar sword but I'm biased as I have one ;-)

This post tells you all you could ever want to know before you decide on which type:-

It was more the last step in the quest, where you have to beat the bosses within a few seconds of each other, that put me off!

Destiny deals equal hands in elation and despair. Probably more of the despair, or perhaps a yearning hunger for better gear? I've just spent two and a half hours on the Oryx run, we never made it past the Warpriest. All Americans again, mostly older guys, all chill apart from this one dumbass kid who sounded about 10 and was apparently the brother of the fireteam leader. He talked incessantly about much of a badass he was, he'd done the raid on hard etc, yet always seemed to be the weak link, always making a mess of holding the damage window open on the priest. His brother was chill as fk, but in the end the rest of the team bailed from those two to form a new team minus the stupid kid. I bailed at that point, I'll have another crack at it tomorrow night, hopefully I can find a team who don't squabble, or at least don't have one guy causing all the problems.

Compared to the team I did my first run with, talk about night and day. Those other guys were pros, tonight's bunch were spoiled by a bad player we couldn't kick and we just couldn't pull together. This is the fate Bungie wanted for us, to be punished for our incoherence. Still, I got a 300 raid fusion rifle which is cool, not to mention the ever-present mouldering shards.

The final mission for swords is fine - I did it with randoms where we were trying to get two different knights at once - it was a bit harder to stay alive but it was fine.

In the end the guy dies just as we were trying to do the two knights plus the boss, I got my sword but he didnt...so we ran it again for him to get his.

I hadn't meant to do it with random people and was lucky and got two people who wanted to use a mic and do it properly - I'd strongly suggest doing it with mates if possible.

The random groups from interwebs can be pretty hit and miss - so long as you can roll with the ups and downs then it can be ok.

Edit - iron banner rank 5 drops a ghost between 310 and 320 plus an armour/weapon item between 310 and 320...must resist the urge to grind...

Isn't Iron Banner competitive MP with level and gear advantages? Shame, as the rewards sound good.

Yes - light level doesn't make much difference... MP skill has the biggest impact by far and then equipment is second ( a good pulse rifle with high stability, and either a good shotty or good sniper depending on your abilities)

IB is mainly a "grinding" event i.e. you mainly get up to rank 5 by playing lots of iron banner. If you are good then you will get there a bit quicker, but most players should be able to do it.

The scoring of rep is reasonably complicated. You get some for match wins, a bit less for match losses, but you get a lot for completing each bounty...

The rep also goes up a lot over the course of the week, is also increased if you are wearing an IB shader, class item, and name plate/emblem....

etc.

Check out the reddit thread for some worked examples if you are interested...but it boils down to doing about an hour a day if you can complete all bounties (only 1 or 2 are hard like the 10 person kill streak one).

Hand in weekly bounties towards the end of the week as they will get multiplied up by the daily buff.

Talk about taking the fking piss, I've just been running Kings Fall with some lads and we get disconnected during Golgoroth right as we had him on the verge of death, after a long slog a lot of our team were throwing the towel in anyway but it would have been nice to get one last chest. Upon returning to orbit there is a message saying the servers are being reset and we'd see interruption to our activity. Cheers Bungie.

Had a good night on iron banana last night after a couple of raid abortions!!

There seemed to be a hell of a lot of people playing with low light levels, I saw a lot of people around the 250-260 marks, not many 300+ and literally one or 2 310+,.

Didn't get any good rewards really, just ranking up, managed to finish all of the bounties except for 1 and I'm up to 2.5 in rank.

Apparently people have had 300+ blue artefacts dropping at rank 3... I might give it another bash sometime over the weekend if anyone else is on gimme a shout..

Still that hard mode raid completion eludes me!!!!

P.s go check out some of my game clips from IB, one of them shows a 6 kill rampage pretty god for me smile

Had a fairly productive night on iron banner last night, managed to go from rank 2.5 to rank 5.

I got a 310 iron ghost shell from my rank 3 package.
During normal end of round rewards I got a few 285-297 iron banner hand cannons , a 296 heavy machine gun, the chest plate and gauntlets .
Then I hit rank 5 and got a 318!!! Iron banner sniper, it's not that good so a infused it in to my spindle to make that 315 smile..
Then on my last game of the night I got a 316 iron ghost smile.

I probably should have had a look at the Iron Banana, the rewards so good but I find the competitive play so gimped and boring in this game, it's hard enough just grinding crucible bounties to get my rank up to level 3 for the Chaperone quest.

I'm currently collecting the calcified fragments for the Touch of Malice, I've got one left on the Dreadnaught, one on the raid, a few on the Regicide mission, a few Court drops and a nightfall reward fragment. I reckon I should be able to to to get close by collecting all the patrol and mission drops, I can probably grab the last raid shard today if need be and then grind out the court until I've got the last ones I need for the ToM. I hope this gun is worth it, everyone seems to think it wrecks Oryx on the raid, hence my urge to get it.

If anyone has not got Black Spindle yet, I'm going to be running a sortie to acquire it next time the missions comes up as the daily heroic, I'll probably have Baryonyx on my team, if anyone on here wants to join us to grab it give me a shout and I'll bear you in mind.

Wuddie - some nice drops!

I'm going to be iron bannering tonight. I've only played once this week, but been collecting the bounties each day on each character. There was only 1 overlap each day so I have like 8 or 9 bounties on each one.

Mastodon2, it may not be too late to have a go at it, depending on how much time you have tonight and tomorrow night. The buffs now are pretty big.

Solo play then iron banner iant that much fun, but with a few people just chatting and working together it gets pretty good fun.

If spindle comes up again, and I'm online playing a game then send me an invite and I'm happy to help. If it says TV or Netflix then I normally can't switch over to games.
