I haven't raided with you guys but I'm willing to give it a shot if you'll have me along. I'm 310, have a 308 Spindle. Totally blew through Golgoroth on hard last week, challenge should be interesting.

Patch is due to land at 6 p.m. so none of us may be playing for awhile...especially me with my potatoe internet...

Edit - I'm being dumb...was thinking about having to DL multiple gigs. I assume the patch won't be too bad, even if it has two sparrow maps in it.

I should be on just after 8...save me a space? Pretty please?

I'll be on after 9, if I miss my slot then so be it, it would be cool to whoop Golgoroth with you guys. I've been reading into the challenge strats, it doesn't sound like a massive leap over regular Golgoroth tbh.

Another belter night on Destiny, I had joined a team off the LFG - harder to find than you might think, we had a squeaker and a few guys who hadn't bothered to read the strats online before jumping into the raid. Then I got an invite from Irrotational, so I jumped into his squad.

It became obvious very quickly that the team were totally on point, we were just looking for that perfect run, everything was going very smoothly, everyone knew their job and communicated very well, we were handing the gaze off effectively and tearing great fking holes in Oryx's pet ogre. We came to a crunch point on what would be our final run, our stormcaller and titan needed orbs for one last push, I stepped up to the plate with my Sunsinger's radiance, tossing grenades into the incoming adds and created...a single orb. This will forever be known as the "one orb strategy" when talking about Golgoroth. hehe

Back into the pit one last time, we had one final push and the boss went down. The loot was generous as is the case with this challenge mode drops - though my drops were for slots where I was already 310 plus, the 320 gloves were appreciated but my light level only went up from 310 to 311. At the chest in the second jump puzzle one of our group found a 310 Hawkmoon, the lucky git! I had to make do with a mouldering shard. After the fight we equipped the challenge engrams and sent photographs to our fallen comrades and retired for some sparrow racing, which I must admit was rather a good laugh when playing with some top lads.

I'm now wondering what the Daughters challenge will be - I'm hoping it will be beating them in a single phase for each - a total DPS check so maybe we won't get lucky and they'll do something obscure.

Ha ha! Love the write up and love the one orb strategy comment!

At least you didn't die after generating your orb smile

Was chuffed to get the challenge mode done and get my very first 320 loot.

Similar to Mastodon I got my 320 drop where I was already 317, so I'm still dragging my 306 boots around.

Sparrow racing is a fun distraction.

There may be some benefits to playing a lot of races...

Finishing a race counts as a crucible win...so you can equip TLW and progress the jolly holiday quest. BUT deaths still count as deaths so don't blow up!

Only the helmet has light, and its not clear yet what you need for that to even have a "chance" to drop at 320...

I've been doing the sparrow racing to boost my Jolly Holiday quest. A win nets 3% towards the "acclaim" total for the quest, so if you do it perfectly it's 34 races to complete the quest step and at about 5 minutes per race that if nearly 3 hours of racing to do the quest. Inevitably you will die, so subtract 1% per death so in real terms you're looking at about 4 hours of grinding.

It's a pain, but if you're crap at crucible (like me) then it's really the only way to get the step done without resorting to unusual methods. I'm going to do it all in one sitting tonight just in case it's an unintended error on Bungie's part and I'm worried they might put a hotfix in at 8am tomorrow morning. It's going to be a long night.

After you've done it inspect the log book in the eververse shop.

It's currently bugged, so just inspecting it, and hovering over each entry, will drop a reward if you have done whatever is needed.

So you don't actually have to buy the book to get the rewards.

Cheers for the heads up Andy, will do.

With regard to Three of Coins, I don't have any to pop for crucible or races. My weekly strategy at the moment is to buy the weekly exotic weapon if I like the look of it, then spend up on 3OCs. I pop them two at a time and run the Ultra Knight on the dreadnaught, giving me an exotic drop chance roughly every 2 minutes if I'm quick. Using two 3OCs at a time seems to give me the best drop rates, I tend to average about 1 exotic engram for every 1.5 3OC bundles I get through.

If Crucible or Sparrow racing proves more lucrative I'll start using them there, but I'll need to see the data first, I'm tight with my strange coins!

Hey there - using more than one 3oc at once is just a waste. Bungie confirmed at the time of launch that you only need one active at once.

The buff comes from killing an ultra and not getting a drop - the next 3oc you use has a higher chance to drop an exotic...if one doesnt drop at the next ultra kill then the chance goes higher again....and so on.

TLW crucible renown step done, I started at 8pm, took a break at 9, restarted at 10:30 and eventually hit 100% at 02:20am. I was sandbagging heavily, giving my opponents a 15 second headstart so that I could race on clean track as being bumped and rolling over is the easiest way to die in this mode. Despite giving them so much of a headstart, I still finished my S class licence before reaching 100%. I just put put some music on and focused on that instead of the dull racing.

I'll probably have the "buckshot bruiser" step done soon, which is to get crucible or high level enemy kills so I'll be doing the special version of strike brothers at the weekend and looking to get the killshots on the bosses with a shotgun. I'll be recruiting help for that so that randoms don't steal my kills. It will likely be Saturday, so if anyone wants to help out let me know, alternatively if you're on my friends list see if I pop you a message. Looking forward to that exotic shotgun!
