I've done a disgusting amount of SRL grinding today, hit rank 3 and got my raid helmet up to 310 and my raid bond up to 312. Now I can just start doing leisurely races to get drops at 310+ for infusing my helmet and bond. At least now I'm not worrying about rep I can stop having to try to win, I can just cock around.

After several hours of sparrow grinding I was ready to jack it in, then I got a message from a friend asking if I'd sherpa her friends through Kings Fall, it went very well considering their lights were about 300 average and 2 of them had never done it before. I packed it in after showing them the daughters strat, we were struggling for DPS with only 2 ToMs in the group, when I checked my friends list about 2 hours later they were still at it but I got a message saying the 5 of them carried on with another one of their friends and cracked Oryx in the end. That was my good deed for the day (and a bloody big one too), as I'd done the raid on hard yesterday so I got no rewards whatsoever for playing it again.

Yeah, completing Crota's End with you dudes was fantastic. Great fun. Earlier on that day, I'd left a raid in disgust after a botched run at the totems on King's Fall. It was pretty st from the start. I didn't make it through the jumping puzzle so I had to wait to be pulled through, and when we got to the totem section, a bunfight started between two irritating Portuguese dudebros and some irritating English kid. They couldn't strategise on their side, and kept fking up. I was stymied on my side as one of my teammates didn't have a microphone, and I didn't realise I had go wait for my timer to count down completely to pass the brand of the weaver. I thought you were supposed to run when the boomer knight appeared on the top floor. The raid became a pretty argument session with Donal Trump 'I can't remember what I said' impressions.

I do wish the future raids would focus more on good shootouts rather than puzzles. I don't think I've yet seen a raid shootout that matches the starting sections of the VOG.

That is a shame frown the puzzles are quite satisfying if you have a reasonable team who can communicate....otherwise they are awful!

A lot of people (in general) and a few on here will be running kings fall tonight to attempt the Oryx challenge. So hopefully you can have another run with a better group.

I think we're all gonna have to practice our jumping skills.

I think a 6 person horde mode could be quite cool too, with particular tactics needed for particular waves...

I'd like the see raids which are big shootouts, not quite Black Spindle levels of silliness but pacey enough. I enjoyed smashing Crota, but the whole 'run here, run there, pass the brand, jump on this platform, jump on that platform whilst he rotates with a turnip up his arse' stuff is nonsense when the main game is so good. By all means, a little puzzle action is fun but King's Fall especially just seems to be a string of puzzle challenges.

I'll do the hard mode challenge today, I'm free all day after 1pm, should be 313 light by this afternoon. Put me on the team.

EDIT: Challenge mode strat is up.

https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/3...

Sounds tough. Knights have to be killed to stop them detonating the bombs, 16 bombs needed in total and they all have to be detonated in one big bang, so 4 relic cycles in total. I think if any of the bombs go early that would probably block the challenge mode rewards from dropping. Stopping the knights, making sure players don't detonate any bombs by accident and surviving 3 goes in the dark dimension will be the big challenges here.

It looks like fun!!

I am free tonight - woo! so definitely up for a challenge mode run. I'll be on at 8 o clock or just after so can hopefully hook up with any regulars that are on.

Mastodon - you may well have done it by then if you are starting at 1 this afternoon!

I'm on tonight from 8.. So I'll be doing the challenge mode too..
Mastodon see if you can get a hard mode oryx checkpoint and we can start from there then go back and start the raid once we are done!!

I actually expected the challenge to be more tricky, like every round needs a new relic runner, and the same person can't do the same plate twice..

This is basically just doing the KNIGHT STRATEGY, which is easier than the no knight strat in my opinion!! Just needs better communication. Biggest ball ache will be detonating the bombs at the same time as every one just seems to panic and run off to their bomb ASAP!

Sorry I meant free to start whenever after 1 - but expecting it to be an evening run.

I haven't seen anyone with the new emblem or the raid ship today. The previous two challenges were pretty easy, I think this one will be completed by far less players. It will be interesting though - will Touch of Malice still be the weapon to use, given the focus on darkness dimension fighting? If it turns out there is still going to be an extended stand and bang DPS phase on Oryx then I suppose ToM is the gun you want, I'll watch some videos but I'm guessing that when you burst the bombs, Oryx is full health and then you get one very long DPS phase to reduce him down to the final slither of health so he crawls up on the front, takes the last burst of damage and then dies?

Oh, if anyone was hoping for something cool for getting all of the calcified fragments, tough luck. You get an emblem, a few bits and bobs from Eris and 500 Eris rep. Bungie have really pushed the boat out for this one! As bad as that is, I think this signals the end for Taken King content, once Oryx challenge is done I suppose they'll run the challenges on weekly rotation for gear grinding and SRL has clearly been given as a gift to allow end gamers to boost their bonds and helmets if they put the time in. More and more players are breaking that 310 cap and short of farming exotics, there is not much left to do. We need more content, or updated old content. Soon we'll be running VoG and cooing over 160 damage drops that we will then scrap and wait for another week to run it.

I'll have a checkpoint ready to go, I may even try it with randoms and see if I can get a feel for the challenge and have any insight for us ahead of jumping in this evening. I went up to 313 light this morning too, the grind is real.

It's only the bombs that do damage to oryx, each set of 4 bombs take 1/4 health off.. All the dps after the bombs go off doesn't do anything..

As far as I'm aware ... Could be wrong

I think you're right, in which case ToM is only optimal as it gives very high DPS to block Oryx's doom clap and allows very high damage on the add groups while the aura is up. I'm wondering if maybe my 310 Mida Multitool or Bad Juju wouldn't be a better choice for this fight.

ToM gives an easy Oryx stagger and add clear when in the Aura. You DO have to shoot Oryx in the chest before you detonate the bombs, to keep his chest open/exposed, but it does literally no damage.

I think they have done it to "future proof" the raid a little as essentially you HAVE to beat the boss using the mechanics rather than just higher and higher powered weapons.

If you're quick with menus you can switch out ToM for a normal primary during the shade phase...but normally you can get the thralls with punching and grenades plus a machine gun heavy.

I would stick with ToM to at least make sure you get to the shade part.

The challenge "just" shifts the difficulty around - the team has to be very quick on ogres and the knights and the light eater knight, to make sure all bombs stack and dont get eaten.

The Oryx phase is then easier because there is only one run out of the aura to detonate bombs rather than 4.

Obviously there are 4 shade phases so 4 chances for a glitchy death or a dark-souls slam.

IMHO Golgoroth challenge will take the biggest re-organisation away from the "normal" strat, but Oryx was much harder to start with so it will be the hardest challenge overall.

I will be on but maybe 8.15 or so - if you have 6 already then I will obviously sit out but if at all possible I'd love to get on the challenge train!

I've got the checkpoint. It is confirmed that if you lose any bombs you can run another phase to spawn more - but this should only be done if you've lost a bomb, as people have reported the game crashing when 20 bombs are detonated.

I don't think it would be a trouble to wait until 20:15 for you, Andy.

Oryx hard challenge done.

We kicked off at about 20:35 with 6 ready for the raid, 4 warlocks and two titans. It took us a little while to get the rhythm, but we started getting pretty close, nailing the ogres pretty much where they spawned and dealing with the knights quickly afterwards. We were always let down by one little slip and having to wipe, no one's fault but we were grinding on. We lost Glenn at about 22:10, recruited a new runner from the LFG and after 3 wipes with the new guy we cracked it on the fourth go. The last moment with the detonation of all the bombs, the mad dash back to the bubble and assembling at the front to "melt the c*nt" one last time was epic and something I will never forget. I've been playing video games for 23 years and that was one of the best moments I've had. As with Golgoroth, it was a case of everyone knowing their job and doing it well. By the end, the runs felt rhythmic and consistent, the timings were tight and every phase felt clean and easy - a testament to how strong the group were as individuals and at working as a team.

With regard to the challenge, it was a bit of an adjustment, I've only done Oryx hard once and every time I've tried all the teams have been very keen on the No Knight strat - which I actually think is the worst strat as it puts so much pressure on the runner, with 4 ogres trying to eye-laser them down. This challenge strat is actually very strong, as with only a single bomb run there are less chances to lose a player due to mis-timing detonation runs. It would be a strong strat for non-challenge mode Oryx, as especially as you've got more flexibility on detonating the bombs over several phases when you're not trying for the challenge.

I did get some pretty nice gear from it:

320 Harrowed Anguish of Drystan (with kills recharge health perk)
313 Harrowed Doom of Chelchis (with kills recharge health perk)
310 Doom of Chelchis (infusion fodder)
320 Numinous Web artifact
310 Claws of Ahamkara exotic warlock gloves (Stored in vault until I get a raid chest piece)
Agonarch Karve (raid ship)
Of Light and Hunger (challenge emblem)
