Hi Stig,

The game is in a bit of a lull so there are less of us on than there has been for ages.

We generally manage to get 6-8 PH people on a tuesday night for a raid but for the rest of the week it's a bit quieter.

I'm happy to do a normal level raid, but I can never be sure I'll be online due to work frown

Another great place to try would be dads of destiny. I haven't played with them, but they are meant to be a very helpful bunch and maybe a bit more understanding than randoms on LFG.

There is a chap who plays quite a bit but dokleant post much on here called Morphies. His son also wants to do the raid, so that's 3 of you and then maybe you can pick up 3 of us from here? Depends on timing etc.

Hardest part of the raid is finding 6 people free at the same time and managing to get them into party chat and a lag free fireteam!

If he is 284 he's got a bit to go yet, a group of understanding players could pull him through a normal raid a bit, but it's easier when you've got mates instead of 5 random blokes who just want to get through smoothly and quickly so they can go to work / mow the grass / cook dinner etc.

The biggest hobbler will be his communication settings, if can't hear the other plays and talk back to them then his chances of being able to do even the easiest bits of the raid will be severely hampered. King's Fall is very mechanic heavy, it's all about 6 players all with different jobs, trying to do their bit and let everyone else know what needs to happen. It's not just about turning up and blasting monsters, it's about having sub-teams doing tasks, communicating timers that other players can't see, managing super ability use etc. If he can't talk and listen to the other players, he won't know where to go, what to do etc and they'll boot him from the team. Being able to listen and respond usefully is more important than being good at the running, jumping, shooting stuff, at least on King's Fall.

I sherpa on King's Fall - that is, my account on LFG has a special tag, I take teams of new and inexperienced players and show them the way through King's Fall to help them learn how to do it. The only thing I absolutely insist on is everyone having a mic and using it. A player with no mic and no ability to hear instructions is just a dead weight on the team and the only thing I won't waste my time, or the time of the other 4 players in trying to carry along.

Back to the soul-crushing grind of Trials of Osiris, a fking dud of a map and a 306 artifact to show for the pain.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Mastadon!

He has a lvl 40 Warlock with a light level of 284 - so he's there or thereabouts. I'veplayed a bit of Destiny myself wink but have been too wrapped up in Fallout 4 recently to give it mich gametime!

Sounds like lfg is his best bet. I've restricted comms on his XBLive account so he can't hearother players (and he's a pretty responsibly lad and whilst he's no doubt heard every swear word going I don't like to expose him to an environment where I know people can get fairly personal with their insults).

He certainly has the skills. I made the mistake of playing him pvp last bight in Halo - he handed me my Ar$e with a 25 to 4 win. Little goit wink I blame the red wine....
He'll need a microphone for the raid to get the Calcified Fragments there. If you can't talk, and can't listen to the other players you'll get nowhere. You wouldn't even make it past the opening puzzle. I had a run through King's Fall with the PH team keeping me right and even then there was a lot of shouting and swearing.

Party chat language is typically appalling and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Nah! if you're having fun then just carry on :-)

Maybe wait until something new in Destiny is launched?

I'll be online tonight but hoping to just turn in bounties and then complete two matches for Trials bounties left over from last week. I like burning shrine as a map.

Might try and finish Tomb Raider 2013 then. Unless anyone is up for a last minute Golgy challenge!?

I liked Lew's circle-run strategy but I think it would work better with a single orb, going for that second orb per phase was putting us as too much risk - better to clear the cursed thralls properly and then drop in for one orb. Doing it that way means 4 safe, neat damage phases rather than 3 risky ones. Better luck next time - though we did only run it for about 15 minutes.

I think circle-runs, one orb, may be more viable now. At the time we switched to two orbs because we were getting too close to enrage. Everyone is a bit higher light now so 4 one orb runs may be feasible.

I should be on tonight if anyone fancies a couple of hours at Oryx HM CM!? I still feel really guilty about our last attempt with Glen :-(

Iron banner was pretty good to me in the end. I got 317 boots for my Warlock, which I needed, a 317 chest for my Titan, which technically beats the 315 I already had, and a slightly rubbish 313 chest for my hunter, which I don't need.

It could have been a lot lot worse!

Have full IB gear for my titan (as that's often all it does) carrying on my tradition from year 1. I just need to infuse it up to a decent level.

I'll be on later usual 8pm

I do think though that i am drawing close to ending my destiny career.. i cant really be arsed to get to 320 on my titan, my other 2 characters are still only level 35 and 36 and I've no real motivation to get them ranked up.

Trials this weekend was an absolute abortion, we were getting wrecked all over the place for no real reason either... I did get a set of 315 no backup plans from the silver bounty, and a trials fusion rifle, but nothing really else of note. Unless they release a mass of content soon i'll likely be looking at all the games destiny stopped me from playing over the last 18 months.

I play a lot? I thought my game time was modest - 3 - 5 hours each night is modest, isn't it?

The lad wants to do a hard raid at some point this weekend, although I've said he will be better running the normal through all the way 1st. I'll be happy to take on a couple of newbies (excuse the term) on the normal run. I wouldn't really like taking too many through a hard raid though, Oryx can be a rounded door handle at the best of times.

The raid run will probbaly start around 7:30pm. with a cut off point of around 10pm friday and saturday. See how we go.

Just remember that the Knights are invisible in normal mode ;-)

Baryonyx and me will be looking to run the Vault of Glass this weekend. I think Lew needs to do that, we're all up to the same point in the No Time to Explain quest. Should be a piece of piss.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to smashing the VOG soon. That'll be a way for me to round off this Destiny installment. I'll be hitting it hard when Destiny 2 or proper new content comes out. I've had some great games sitting around not getting played because Destiny has been so great and addictive.

Yeah that was top fun, thanks for coming along. I know what you lads mean about it being the best raid, I had given up on Destiny when VoG was the only raid (I think I clocked about 8 hours before I traded the game in, I thought it was st!) and while King's Fall is longer and the challenges are quite different, I can see why people have such a soft spot for VoG even after all this time.

I'll still try and get it done with Baryonyx again at the weekend, shouldn't be too hard to recruit a team.

I just dropped a Red Spectre while grinding sword kills in the crucible - it's like the game is taking the piss out of me!

Was that on hard? Thought it was normal.

Bungie need to re-release a level 41/42 raid option on VOG and Crota with Y2 drops. The contents there it just needs reissuing.

Edit: Thanks for the tip Irro, I'll keep that in mind smile

Edit 2: seen this solo crota sub 9 minute run? http://gamerant.com/destiny-crota-solo-record-900/

Bloody hell, that speed run was something else.

I'm looking forward to battering a VoG run at the weekend, I might take my hunter along this time. I also need to do the final exotic sword quest step with the level 42 sunless cell strike and the "kill the sword warden within 30 seconds of Alak-hul" parameter. I'll be recruiting for help from you lot to lash that one out smile
