One more OT post on the division - you can pre-order it on amazon without spending any money, get the beta access emails and sign up to the beta....and then cancel again.

Beta is over the weekend of the 28th Jan.
Cheers, just pre ordered it and signed up for the beta.
do you have to sign up for the beta if you preorder? normally you get a message on xbox live?

When you pre order you get an email confirmation with a beta code. You get instructions in the email to log onto the Ubisoft website and log in and input the code. Then you get another email to say you are part of the beta.

Yeah I think you *have* to go via a UbiSoft account linked to an Xbox account.

Once the beta is active I'm assuming UbiSoft will release codes on the Xbox system and then they'll appear in your xbox messages.

Not sure if ill be able to get on during the beta period but will hopefully catch some of you online if I can.

It's groups of 4 this time, although some muttering that 2 4's can join up for end game missions in the dark zone.

Max level in the full game is 30...#forever29 will live again!

I just hope the Division doesn't suffer the loot balancing issues Destiny had for so long! I'm sure Ubisoft will have looked closely at the shonky mess that Destiny started as...

Greatness wasn't so easily achieved.

Be good to get a couple folks so we can hopefully run through it nice and quick!

The random group we ended up in on Saturday was a bit painful...

That was due to the screaming children frown

Looks like the Division is going to be the replacement for this. People are moaning it's too like Destiny, I don't think this is a bad thing.

I don't think it will replace Destiny but it will certainly fill some time in before Destiny 2. Speaking of which, Bungie better be working their fking arses off on that one.

I love that this has become the closet Division thread - more so than the official one :-)

I'm expecting to see a lot of names poppping up in that one on my friends list.

A lot of the PvP seems to depend on flanking, which I guess makes sense in a cover shooter....he who flanks first, wins.

One of the problems with The Division is that it promotes ahole gameplay. In the dark zones where the best loot drops, you can kill your teammates and nick the good stuff for yourself. Not so much a problem when playing with people on your friends list, but with matchmaker or LFG groups it could be a nightmare. This same gameplay mechanic totally wrecked Payday 2 last year, as practically no heists were completed without turning into a TKing mes, no one wanted to take a lead on anything as the rest of the team were all just waiting to kill each other.

The problem with Payday 2 was that nobody bothered to use a mic or headset. It's a game made for tight team play, but it was typically just matchmade rubbish. Without a system or incentive to cooperate, players tended to backstab as soon as they thought there was an opportunity to make a wodge of cash. It was complete crap.

Kane and Lynch 2 had team heist mechanics absolutely nailed. Yes, there was the odd TK but in general, players respected the gains to made and stuck together.

I don't know how The Division will work with the Dark Zone backstab mechanics. The developers may well tweak things later on to discouraging TK'ing as it'll put off players who go solo or matchmake teams, and will typically descend into farce.

I'd hoped to see the slow death of naff PvP in games that don't need it, but we'll never see it. No doubt Destiny 2 will be lumbered with the same dreck.

What a massive night, the best I've had on Destiny in ages. Started off running the nightfall with two of the usual crowd, followed by hard mode Kings Fall with Golgoroth challenge completed along the way. The whole thing was super relaxed, we really have reduced Oryx to "a procedure" now, as Lew put it. I did drop a 315 Harrowed Defiance of Yasmin (infusion fodder, at best) and a 320 chest piece I'm pretty happy with. Oryx was a bust, my drop for beating him on hard was a 310 bond - what a tight . The whole run couldn't have taken us much more than 90 minutes. Relics on first go, through Portico in 5 minutes tops, totems with no wipes, Warpriest on first attempt (and killed in two damage phases too), Golgoroth challenge completed on 3 or 4th attempt, Daughters on 2nd attempt, Oryx on 4th or 5th go.

Up next, 2 members drop out and we pull another in, then we put in some 5 man runs on VOG and Crota's End. All of the raids done in one sitting, howling with laughter all the way. Destiny at it's best.

Aye, that was absolutely top Destiny. First time I've been all the way through VOG too, I've been in before but got shut down at the Oracle section.

VOG was a belter. There was plenty of drama tonight, which is always fun. That moment in the Gorgon's Maze where I was stuck on the rock, trying to avoid slipping down and trying to avoid double jumping. Nearly st my kegs there. I'd read about the Mars/Venus bit at the end, but I still didn't really understand what was going on at that part so I hung around building a conflux and getting it knocked down by various Minotaurs before going to Venus and shooting at red Oracles whilst trying to stay near the relic. It seemed to work!

Crota's End was even funnier. It's definitely my favourite raid as it's a slugathon from start to finish. Slow-walking the start section was a laugh, as I love shredding those bd Hive. Another dramatic moment was providing sniper fire over the bridge as Mastodon came across, the last to carry the sword. Tremendous stuff, I absolutely love it. All I got for Crota were some crappy materials but I did get the Glass Minuet ship which I really like.

Sounds like a great night! Well done guys!

For the division - I thought the PvP mechanics within a team could be quite good e.g. if someone drops something really good, but a duplicate, then they can let themselves be killed so someone else in the team can get it. It's basically limited trading then...

The problem will be LFG and other squads coming in. You just know there are going to be squads of trolls just hanging around doing PvP and taking everyone elses gear.

Once you've done a really hard mission a couple of times, and lost your loot to PvPers afterwards, are you going to go back again? I dont think so!

Imagine doing the raid and then having to survive a crucible match to avoid your gear getting stolen *shudder*.

It doesn't look like PvP is normalised either so gear will matter a lot.

I think (and hope) that they'll only allow 'fresh' loot to be lost in the Dark Zone combat. I'd hate to lose my Mida Multitool in a Crucible match, for instance! The video i was watching suggested that you'd collect new gear in combat there, but that you'd have to extract with it to secure it. In spite of this, the PvP could turn out to be great, but we'll have to wait and see. I know the PVE looks amazing enough for me to want to stay there.

Next time there is a big raid night like last night, can I tag along for King's Fall? I've not yet got the achievement for it. I've been as far as the sisters.

I'm sure we can arrange a carry team to get you through at some point. As I mentioned earlier, Oryx has become a procedure now, so I'll get you up to speed with it so you know what the score is. It may be the case that we just run you through on normal mode, there is less threat from high level adds in the final fight against Oryx although flubbing your job in the Oryx encounter generally leads to wipes for the most part, so it will pay to really understand what is going to happen and where before you jump in.

I still think King's Fall is the best raid, for the size and the architecture. The fight against Oryx is a bit naff in that it's not really a boss fight so much as a procedure, but it's otherwise an amazing experience.
