Thanks for the comprehensive advice chaps. To update you, my light level is now 298, almost breaking 300 and hopefully then il get more purple and yellow drops.
I am doing iron banner, currently rank 4 on my warlock (my only character at the minute)

Tried the vault of glass raid we didnt get too far, completed all the strikes including vanguard and the prison of elders... will try the trials though have discovered the court of oryx which is quite good fun.

Now for some better weapons, at present I have Hawksaw and 1000 yard state at 287 and Truth.
I want black spindle but accoridng to the web can only get it in when lost in the light is the heroic story...

What other weapons should I be gettng, especially primary weapons...

You won't get more legendary or exotic drops for being above 300 light, the only change will be that exotic (yellow) engrams that you decrypt will be 310 value. As such, it's worth holding onto your exotics until you're 300. One of the guys we play with did just that and as soon as he hit 300 he had 6 or 7 engrams and instantly turned them into a load of 310 exotic guns and armour pieces.

Iron Banner can be a good way to boost your light even if it is a lot of work for the kit you get out of it. I did 3 characters up to rank 5 this time round and got sweet fk all from my rank 5 packages, although I did get the titan and hunter class items, so next iron banners will be even quicker if I ever bother with another one. Your rank 5 package will contain at least one item at 310-320 and you'll probably get a ghost shell at 310+ which will be handy, assuming you didn't get a 320 shell from the crimson days event that was held recently. Don't worry about Vault of Glass or Crota's End for now, they're fun raids but they're strictly in the "just for fun" category now as the gear they drop is only 160 light or something rubbish, meaning it's practically useless for the most part. Trials of Osiris will be good for you, don't worry about doing well, just focus on completing the bounties, in particular the silver and gold tier bounties as the silver has an exotic drop chance and the gold gives you a guaranteed gun, item or armour piece from the Trials of Osiris set. Most of it is rubbish but there are a few nice pieces, more importantly it will raise your light level.

Court of Oryx is not worth wasting much time on if you're already close to 300 light, as it only drops gear up to 300 and for the most part what it does drop is total crap anyway. It's really only useful for collecting calcified fragments for the Touch of Malice quest, but when you get to that be sure to track your progress via https://destinycalcifiedfragments.com/ to make sure you're not wasting time.

Hawksaw is a decent gun but there are far better out there. Once you get to 300+ you can start decrypting those exotics, there is a vendor called Xur who appears in the tower in a random location from 08:00 on Friday until 08:00 on Sunday, he sells exotic loot but only at 280, and an item called "Three of Coins". Use one of these before killing an ultra (a boss enemy with a skull next to their name) and you'll raise your chance of them dropping an exotic. You can also use one before each crucible match and that will give you a chance to get an exotic engram. Get into the habit or farm the ultra knight on the dreadnought (look it up via google/youtube) and you should get an exotic about once every 9 or so 3oCs that you use - but that means playing 9 crucible matches or killing 9 ultras, not using 9 3oCs in one go and playing one game. For quick farming, the ultra knight is easily the fastest method.

Once you're farming away, the guns you really want are a Mida Multitool, which is an exotic scout rifle that is super accurate, very stable, has a very fast reload and carries loads of ammo. There is an exotic auto rifle called the Zhalo Supercell that is good for melting enemies and comes in handy for a lot of PVE (but not so much the raids). There is an exotic pule rifle called Bad Juju which is very strong as it regenerates ammo and instantly reloads itself every time you get a kill and creates a cumulative build on super energy for every enemy you kill in quick succession. In a target rich environment, pair Bad Juju with your stormcaller and you'll be popping your super once a minute instead of the usually 3.5-4 minute cooldown. Get any of those at 310 and you'll be in a good spot.

Another very strong primary is the Hung Jury scout rifle from the Dead Orbit vendor in the tower, it's not quite as good as the Mida in any field, but it gets triple tap (3 precision hits adds another round to the magazine) and firefly (enemies killed by precision hits explode) so it can really get the damage out and has the added bonus of allowing you to equip an exotic secondary or heavy weapon. You'll need to be rank 3 with Dead Orbit to buy it, but it's definitely worth it imo.

Those of us who play a lot tend to agree that the best primary weapon in the game is the Treads Upon Stars scout rifle, which can be dropped from any strike where the Cabal are the main enemy. Of course, this is dependent on the perks you drop it with, a TUS with ste perks isn't worth using over say, the vendor Hung Jury. I've got a TUS with firefly and crowd control (bonus damage after scoring a kill) and it just rips through everything, it's stable, easy to control, fast firing and hard hitting, I've boosted mine to 320 and use it as my main primary. If you want one, your best bet is to play the weekly nightfall when it's a Cabal strike, as nightfalls have a much higher drop chance for the strike-specific loot than the regular strike missions.

For heavy weapons, Truth is nice but tbh it's not worth using in the heavy slot and not worth using your exotic slot for either. A machine gun will give you much, much more damage potential from each heavy ammo drop and are just way more versatile and useful. None of the exotic heavies are really that good apart from Sleeper Simulant. There is a machine gun from Kings Fall called Qullim's Terminus that is the best heavy weapon in the game at the moment by quite a good margin. Baron's Ambition (from the Fallen S.A.B.E.R strike) and The Unseeing Eye (Trials of Osiris) are also very good.

Black Spindle can only be collected from the Lost to Light mission when it's a daily heroic, you are correct, it probably comes up once a fortnight or so. It involves taking a side path out from the main mission and entering a timed area where you have 10 minutes to clear a Fallen ship which is full of taken enemies. It's hard work, but two high level players should be able to help you through. It's a funny one though, the Spindle, as it's only useful for the Warpriest and Golgoroth bosses on the Kings Fall raid, literally anywhere else it's cumbersome and st. At literally any other point in the game, the vendor Thousand Yard Stare is vastly superior - and even then, the TYS is not that far behind on damage for the Warpriest or Golgorth encounters anyway, particularly if you can burn through all your ammo and get a few Sleeper Simulant shots off which damaging them too.

Well done fella!

Back in Year 1 I was desperate to go, and still am really, but it's kind of faded over time as I've reconciled myself to never going *shrug*

Enjoy the view and top up on vitamin D while you're there - don't forget the factor 50!!

You can make it mate!!

The things I've learnt from playing trials are

1. If you can't beat em join em, if everybody is using mida and 100ys then you should too.. Although a doctrine to the face seems to stop most mida users at close to medium range.
2. Stick close to your team mates.. And if one goes down the first priority over anything else should be to get the revive!!
3. Learn to Rez snipe! 1000ys is handy here
4. Don't panic your super, and try to stay calm, I've missed so many head shots cause I've been running around like a loon

5. And this is the most important one...... Find 2 really good players that can carry your sorry ass all the way to the lighthouse!!! 😀, if your not that good at killing hold back and let the better players stick their necks out, if they go down rush in to the rescue and get the revive, even if you die doing it, your team mate will most likely mop up!!
6. Equip a quick res piece of armour!!!!

Cheers fella.

I really should level up a Mida - I was getting killed by it so much in IB. To be fair - I don't think I have *ever* shot one in anger!

I think what's called in the trade a "hard carry" will be my only hope...

Wow, had to dig back to page 5 for this thread and no posts for over a month!

Not sure if you've all seen but there is a new content drop in April.

Key features off the top of my head:-

Light level increased to 335
Infusion now works 1 to 1 so you never lose light just move it between gear.

Prison of elders upgraded to level 41 and has matchmaking.

Anew score attack mode called challenge of elders has been made. You have 3 rounds to get above a certain score. Assists and headshots and supers will be key here.

Completing a high score target and a weekly cumulative score target will get you one armour piece and one weapon piece from variks. These can drop at up to 335.

Challenge of elders will have 335 enemies in it so be prepared!

Good year 1 guns are coming back but have to reaquired fresh and are drops from vanguard and crucible rep packages.

Other year 1 exotics are coming back too, patience and time has been teased.

KF hard mode will drop up to 335 gear.

Strike specific drops can drop at up to 335 (so grinding nightfalls will be a thing)

Lastly there are new armour sets that can have a coloured glow. They drop from treasure chests along with chroma, a consumable item that comes in 4 colours and applies that colour to a particular armour OR GUN piece.

Treasure chests contain armour that make you look Taken!!

Drops from the treasure chest are rng, and you can get 3 a week, one from postmaster, one from your first weekly crucible event and I can't remember the third.

Dodgy parts:-

Yu can buy treasure chests for real money, and the perks on the armour and stats on the armour are rng so you could buy some very good perk/stat sets.

They also drop reputation boosters! And this directly affects how quickly you can get real drops from the factions. These can drop at up to 330 so you can use real money to speed your way to 330 at least.

If you want a head start with the new content I'd suggest stacking completed bounties and making sure yourcryptarch and factions are close to tipping over.

Yes I have seen the April stuff. My update is I am now 302 light but slow progress. I need to do kings fall raid but I'm too low and no one wants to carry it seems. Had a group quit because I struggled on the war priest. So didn't even get beyond that.
I have hung jury and TYS as my guns with sleeper as heavy. Just need to up there light now. Will do iron banana since its rolled around again.

That's good going - exotics will decrypt at 310 now so you could use them to infuse up to 310...however it will be quite expensive to do that now as opposed to after the April update.

Worth collecting the fragments for ToM if you fancy it.

Destiny is quite a lonely place at the moment :-(

Iron banana depends heavily on completing the bounties and using the buff later in the week to increase your rep. Two weekly bounties turned in on Sunday or Monday are worth a LOT of rep. Use ironbanner.info calcluator to work it out.

You can get a 310 ghost at rank 3 and a 300+ something at rank 5.

Queenbreakers Bow confirmed at 335 damage and a titan in one of the teasers is holding a Universal Remote so fingers crossed that will go up to 335 too.

Update: It's just been confirmed by Bungie via Facebook, Queenbreakers Bow, Universal Remote, Patience and Time, Lord of Wolves and Dreg's Promise are all brought up to year 2.5 335 status in the new update. I think I may be missing a Lord of Wolves, I've heard it's ok. QBB and UR will be beasts, Dreg's Promise is and will always be total st.

I'm stuck on Destiny now... Mainly play PvE and a bit of Crucible, but with a baby and no friends that play, I'm never part of a fireteam.

So I've got PvE Weekly Nightfall and King's Raid quests that I just can't do solo!

The fact I get my arse kicked in Crucible suggests I'm not that great a player. - How does one go about getting a carry on the King's Fall Raid?

Have you both done the normal kings fall raid yet? Or are you needing to do a hard run?

I'm sure we could muster enough people back to help you.

I did most of the raid on normal last night. But my fire team bailed at oryx so still have that to do. For the most part know what to do now but really don't like the jumping bits.

If you see me online feel free to send me an invite to add to the team! (aimed at the lurker too ;-))

The new update will be good and bad news. The good news is that a few people from here may get sucked back in to playing Destiny :-) the bad news is they may want to try the new PoE challenge mode as well as kings fall hard mode for loot :-(

I'd hope we could whip up a normal run between us!
