I wonder if this will be the last big DLC? It's finally something related to Grand Theft Auto. Be a fitting way to round off GTA V before starting GTA VI teasers next year.
won't hear about GTA6 until RDR2 is out.... next year.

They made $711m from shark cards last year, you don't stop doing things when you're making that sort of money. I'd guess that they are making a pretty obscene profit out of Online at the moment - lets say they've got a team of 20 people maintaining/developing online and that they're earning $100k each thats only a couple of million bucks, add another million for other expenses and they're raking a huge profit. Hell, if its a hundred people its still only $10m costs.

They did originally say they wanted Online to be an evolving world, so that could mean that it doesn't stop. In the R* site redesign they actually gave online its own product page, I wonder if that suggests that it may become a separate product and continue permanently, receiving updates and new stuff as it comes along - that'd include using assets of GTA6 as and when. If, of course thats still the plan.

hopefully they will make an Online based on GTA6... with better graphics etc etc... considering GTAV was made several years ago based on PS3 specs...

talking of new things and stuff ending... i think we will need to make a V2 of this thread soon! almost at the magical 500 pages!

I can quite believe GTA 6 will just be an evolution of this in a different location; Rockstar have very obviously kept Online distinct from V despite the fact they're in the same world and require you just to buy the V disk or download to play.

Maybe 6 could be set in a different place but Online becomes download-only to include the V map as well.

Red Dead 2's release has got to be only a small chunk of £700m a year. It's horses, not cars; it's minority interest really. But distracting your core players with a new game is going to hit the £700m Shark Card income. I can see 6/Online's new map being with us in a year's time.

I remember reading ages ago that the next one would have to be designed from the ground up, because the foundations of the PS4 one still originate and were designed around what the PS3 could handle

RDR has as big a following as GTA. Is you look at the release cycle gta 4 & 5 were about 5 and a half years apart with RDR in the middle. It'll probably be a bit longer this time as games take longer to make.

I'd guess 2018 for starting the hype and a 2019 launch.

RDR's sales are about half those of GTA IV; V obviously trounced both. RDR had sold 15m copies by last year, at least a quarter of which were low-priced as a classic game. GTA V had sold 29m within 6 weeks of release, so at or near full price.

Be interesting to know how many Shark card sales are to casual gamers. I can't see that being a viable revenue stream for RDR Online; not unless Eased's comment about Benny's is unwittingly accurate laugh

We did, it took about another three quarters of an hour after you left - there were some really good tracks in it, particularly the last one - we'll have to get a shortened version of that playlist for a Sunday night at some point....

16 races! I was half asleep when I left and you were still doing deathmatches then !

In some ways I can see gta v being a sales highlight. An awful lot of people bought a 2nd copy on next gen, some even bought a third time on pc. Lots of people bh because they want everything free and hate the money aspect, others are pissed because there is no story dlc. If those people pass on GTA 6 and it only comes out on a single platform sales will be lower.

I reckon the game has earned over $2bn so far. As interest declines so will their spend on it, but it's had a hell of a run. 6 will be native 4k and probably arrive on the next set of consoles.

They can make it graphically look better by just having better hardware. Everything you see is built by a graphics engine, the same one that was used in gta 4, you give it more juice, it builds more detailed objects. Pc looks better than consoles, ps4 looks better than ps3 but they didn't do any rework for that. I can see them rewriting some of the mechanics to make them better. I bet they have some code that no-one wants to mess with cos it's a can of worms, all software has some, ask me how I know!

So then do I buy a half price office now to get a swanky garage ? Firmly on the fence at the moment. If it was 500k for a mod shop in a clubhouse and $1m for an apartment what do you reckon it'll cost? $1m per floor? Maybe I'll stock with my 100k garages!

Scrooge signing out biggrin

Not really, not if he's able to summon Tiny Tim to do a Sightseer for him without need for a big flat overlooking The Strand!

My take on this, considering that it's such a massive money spinner for Rockstar, is simply that they might release Online 2 separate to a story-driven GTA6. Lets' be perfectly honest, not many people have bought the rebooted GTA5 for story mode. If they release it like an MMO, (using World of Warcraft as an example) then they can kickstart huge expansions such as Liberty City, Vice City etc etc with big block downloads and people will still keep playing and buying shark cards as long as a few extra modes are thrown their way.

but but but $60 is such a nice round number, $59m is rubbish frown

I have a feeling we won't be able to sell our existing properties, so its going to be a complete waste because they will never get used...

If you take a look around there is some SPECULATION of whats coming in this release, I won't post it here in case some get upset !
Some of it sounds, well, weird. Not necessarily good or bad, just plain weird.. and it could well be bullst. We'll know more in a week I guess.

with my thinking hat on...

it will be free roam missions where by instead of money being the reward at the end, it will be high end supers, which currently you are unable to steal off the street...

You won't upset me laugh
I do read the speculation, especially when people start to decipher screen shots.
The only reason I said its speculation is because it is, but people (more on GTAforum that here) take it all as gospel and then cry when it doesn't deliver what they've self hyped up!

Either way, I can't see this update being cheap in any sense of the word, I wonder if you can trade in an existing property towards the 60 car one?
I've got a ten car apartment/garage sat empty at the moment

I'm up for a full evening of racing tonight if anyone else fancies it smile
