I never understand why people put tyre stacks around lamp posts too that could otherwise be knocked down.
It's specifically to stop them being knocked down - the NODO types found that the havoc caused by a knocked-down lamppost messes up the chasing pack, giving them no way of catching up. They don't cause much of a problem to the person who actually knocks them over.

Not that I agree with it, but that's their reasoning. I think quite a few of their created tracks now have concrete barriers up to the posts; they prevent people using the pavement to cut corners or for avoidance, but they're less harmful if you just brush them.

I have to say, I REALLY hate those fking tyre barriers, be it full or half tyres. There are so many other decent props that can be used instead that don't bring your car to a complete halt when you so much as brush them.
I never understand why people put tyre stacks around lamp posts too that could otherwise be knocked down.
One track had a lamp post on the exit of a corner that could be avoided, but if you got it wrong you hit the tyres and stopped dead.
Hitting a lamp post and being slowed down by it is punishment enough to make you want to avoid it, but to turn it into an obstacle that stops you dead is just plain annoying!

Rant over smile

The idea is you avoid knocking them down at all costs, most the time it's the people behind that suffer if you clout a lamp post.

I agree when it comes to the lamppost thing. Yes, the tyres stop you screwing everyone behind you, and yes they look 'proper race track-ey', but the physics on all tyre barriers are fking trash. They act in literally the exact opposite way to the way a real tyre barrier would work.

I've never needed to bother with lampposts on my tracks, but I know for certain there are 5 other props off the top of my head that could surround a lamppost.

Oh and bloody generators aren't on that list!

Good night last night, I'm glad I stumbled into it.

I understand about people behind suffering from a downed lamp post, but as above, there are many other props that could be used which don't bring you to a stop.
I'd much rather see a concrete barrier that blocks the post and also stops people cutting around the other side of it.

I like being able to cut round the other side, up the pavement - not for kerb boosting, just to avoid people crashing ahead of you!

I'm guessing we won't be seeing many lamp posts in sundays off road races wink

Whenever I made tracks for you guys, I often remember the more simplified ones with less props (or none at all) were the most popular. Unless of course it was for an event!

There were a few props in the ocean bridge, but I think it's about appropriate use of props rather than number. DJ's 6-Way Madness is better with the additional walls, I think. Loved that last night.

Are we doing serious off road?

Will ground clearance and wading ability be vital?

Oh yes, proper wading and rock climbing. Don't go thinking a Bodhi will work.

ETA: for those who were put off by my almost impossible Alamo coast race, don't worry - none of them are my creations and they're not confusing or awkward if you take them steady.

Yep I should be good for off roading Sunday night, looking at the playlist though some of them are only 8 player races, not sure how many normally gather for Sunday night but there was more than that last night.....

Will they be non contact otherwise I see major carnage and frustration when get punted down chilled mountain etc, plus some of them require the steady throttle control approach which won't be easy with 10 or more people going for the same bit of narrow track/ridge etc.....................not bothered though ill go with the flow. smile

Yep, i need to cull the three races which are limited to 8 people. Got to be contact otherwise it wouldn't feel right.

When trying them out tonight I spotted an Eased-style John Deere so had to nick it: http://youtu.be/iSm_EEXkMFI
