Looks a nice setup you have there, any pics of your rig?

I've used the Six Launcher before, and there are others out there that do the same thing. You tend to find that someone who has their own set of servers (such as the CCG group) will have their own launcher. This updates your game and gives you access to their servers.

We used DayZ Commander because rather than giving you access to just one 'groups' servers, it was the hub to everything out there, so it was convenient from a variety point of view. IIRC the Six Launcher is another generic one similar to Commander, so it might be worth trying there.

Its a shame to hear that Commander is now riddled with ads and malware, that really must have been something that's come in place in recent months, as it certainly never used to be like that. Guess the people running it ran out of money!

The commander is definitely full of malware/adware. I spent most of yesterday cleaning up the PC from it... Wasn't impressed at all.

Tbh, I just downloaded the mod from Steam, went on to a vanilla server and went for it. does the job for now to get in to the swing of the game.

I Googled the issue and you guys are right, in fact there are posts about it having malware from as long as a year ago, which is very odd as I've never had those issues. Some do speak of an "unofficial" download that is everywhere and full of malware, with a few links to the non-infested versions, but it does seem to be worth avoiding Commander now at all costs!

Ah sweet, ARMA is installed and runs well. I'm just downloading the ad-on now.

Should be finished about 8.

Let me know what server you are on and I'll try to join! Robatron will hopefully join us at some point

I think in the last half hour I've got the hang of it... A bit.

I joined 2 diff servers, one vanilla which was tough and another French one.

Only met 2 people. Nice Dutch chap that told me good places to get guns and explained lots. Then a French dude that was trying to be nice but ended up getting in the way.

In 3 hours I fired 1 bullet. By accident.... A million zombies came running so I decided against firing at them again. Didn't find any baddies, just a chopper flying overhead.

Had a Winchester, an Enfield, M4, double barrel and an M1911.

Only problem I had was that I couldn't figure out how to punch? Almost gave up as I died 5 times in a row, then realised you can hide in bushes etc to get away from zombies.

The map size is mind boggling. Still had no idea where I was, or where to go. Got all my guns from either the fire station or the barns out of town.

You can't punch in the mod, only in standalone.

The only melee weapons you have in the mod are things like the axe (best), crowbar, machete, things like that. The best tactic to use is only use non-silenced weapons when against other players. If you're wandering around a town or base, use your axe to tackle zombies. Its a one hit kill and is silent, so doesn't bring the zeds from all around.

Some of the servers allow you to shoulder a weapon, so you can have a rifle and axe which you can flip between, otherwise you'll have to put your weapon away in your bag and take your axe from your toolbelt into your hands.

Another little trick is if you want to lose zombies, hide in the conifer trees. This bugs out the zombies and although they'll attack you, they cant actually hit you 99% of the time, so you can hide in the tree, let them come to you then pick them off with your weapon of choice.

The mod has lots of little glitches that can be used to your advantage. Another one is when in the fire stations, climb up the tower, but if you don't want to or can't get down again, on the second level I think you can find the icon to climb onto the outer ladder, thus glitching through the wall and out onto the roof of the building. Useful if there are lots of zombies coming up the stairs after you.

Best place for military loot is the small camp in the central town of Stary Sabor, the North West Airfield (or NWAF as you'll likely see in sidechat) or the North East Airfield (NEAF). There is also a small camp on the northern edge of Berezino.

Bear in mind though people who run their own servers can change the maps to their own likings, so may put additional bases in.

Something of note is that the zombies are a huge problem. In Frankies video he always just runs right past them and never really has any issues. I was trying to loot a town yesterday and it took an age as I was sneaking about everywhere so as to not alert them and other players (turned out the whole place was deserted ffs!)

The French server last night, you could select your spawn which was nice. Although it was in Russian so took some guessing...

Overall though, can see myself loosing a vast number of hours to it...

ETA: Just printed off a map... 12 x A4 sheets stuck together, Big enough?

I have a printed map still on the wall next to my desk; you'll soon get to figure it out once you've been playing a while. As for the zombies, when you're a "noob" to the game they do seem scary / a threat, but once you've been playing it a while they quickly get relegated to just being a nuisance. I remember spending ages sneaking into towns, crawling my way into them to avoid the zeds, but the reality is you can just run around quite happily without much threat, even less if you have a weapon to tackle them with.

They can't run indoors so that's one way of getting away from them. The real threat is other players!

Well last night it all made sense.

Joined a 'Noobs Play Ground' server, ran around for about 2 hours getting thoroughly dejected. Found an Enfield, with no ammo. Found a Winchester, and dropped it by accident. Found a 191, with no ammo.

Then I wandered into a farm, wow. Tractor!!!! Also found another Enfield with some ammo.

Decided to drive to the airport in the bottom left as I needed human contact and hadn't seen anyone in 2 hours. (50 ppl in the server!!) following Frankies advice I came to the north, parked up the tractor and when I wandered around I found a dirt bike!! Drove it up a mountain and hid it. Then wandered down to overlook and have a peek around.

Saw a few people, nowhere near enough to shoot at with an Enfield and no scope. Sat there for 20mins or so. Then saw a guy possibly 100-150m to my right getting down a ladder from a radio tower. Decided to have a pop.

Missed. *shock*

He fired back so I rolled to my right and back a few meters. Straight into a tent! Christ knows how I missed it first time round but half in a tree a nice tent. Surely it's empty??

Wrong! Stacked full of guns and gear! DMR, 2x M4's, M16, M24 + loads of gear. There were an increasing amount of shots close by so I grabbed a Ghille and DMR + 7 mags. I set a bear trap outside the tent as a thank you, ran to my bike and got the fk outta there!!

Was server reset time so I got to the mountain near Cherno and logged out. Only problem being that in my excitment I totally forgot about food/water. Was on flashing water for about 5 mins. Hope to Christ when I log back in I can find water ASAP! Will be mighty fked off if I die now!

I now get this game. 8 hours in 3 days. 7 hours of bks followed by an hour of stealing and running about like a loony, such good fun.

Have started downloading ARMA 3 as I fancy trying Altis life (again after Frankie videos!)

Right, well. After a week. I've gone back to standalone. Been playing it with Nobatron.

I must say its getting a little tedious. Its a weird one, I'm starting to wonder what the point of it all is. After a week, I've got the hang of it and I can gear up pretty quickly, know roughly where I am etc.

A few times now though I get a gun, I get all my gear and then spend the entire time hunting for food or trying to get warm. Twice now I've died from hypothermia when I've not been wet even... extremely frustrating. Yesterday I was completely geared up (military clothes, AKM etc) and Died of cold literally 10 seconds before Rob arrived with a fire pit. Gutted.

Im spending my entire game time hunting for food or clothes. I understand the idea of the game is to survive. I get that, I like it but I want to explore, I want to find things but constantly being on the brink of death is boring.

Do different servers have a different amount of gear? I get the server reset thing, but I've hunted most of the places (although not a chopper crash site) but only ever found Mosin, shotgun's, pistols and some .22 stuff. Once I found an AKM but that was dropped by another player (as it had 1 bullet in the chamber but no clip etc).

The mod seems to have loads more guns?? Am I just in the wrong server?

I can certainly see where you're coming from but having said that, the fact it's so bleak makes it appealing for me as if you manage to survive and get kitted out it gives you a good sense of achievement. Plus, there's less chance of running into people who are seriously out-gunning you and just shoot without warning.

Yesterday I was running to save Graham (again wink) and then got attacked by a total of 12 zombies. I managed to fend them off but was left with a broken arm and a broken leg which left me completely defenseless. So much so that a bunch of bandits ran over and executed me and nicked all my st. All I could do was laugh really!

You soon realise that everyone is out to screw you so I'm definitely going to be more weary of people in the future.
