Alien: Isolation
Discussion
For those who have finished the game...
I have just finished the section where you try to trap the alien in the server hub, but that Ricardo guy opens the door to free Ripley and the alien escapes. I've just started a new chapter where we are going to try and trap it in a new area. How much further do I have to go? Am I halfway yet? I've recently acquired the flamethrower if that helps as a reference to how far in I am.

Agreed: Half way ish. The game is much bigger than people think. I fancied playing it again without an Alien and just going walk about to appreciate the space station. It's one hell of an environment.
I like all the comments about being hunted down by it. On hard it feels exactly like that. It is clearly picking up signals that are not picked up on the lower skill levels.
Ace feeling of being properly hunted down by a skilled killer...

..but the Xbox joypad (used on the PC) feels crap and it's not entirely bug free. I'm starting to wish I'd paid the extra and bought the PS4 version.
I have to say, the pad is absolutely perfect for me.The game all maxed out (and running it through SweetFX for an even better look with some decent fsaa) is silky smooth and the inputs are bang on.I completed this yesterday after a good 30-35 hours gameplay (I spent a LOT of time hidden in lockers lol) and all I can say is that it's the best game I have played in a long time.
It really needs to be played in a dark room with headphones on for the best experience and many times that made my mouth dry with fear.
Its a good story to it and without spoiling it there were a few times where I thought the game had ended only to find a few twists and turns that threw you back in the action.
10/10 from me and the extra content is good but short

Palms sweaty with irritation is probably the best I've had so far. My irritation stems from the "nao u dai" gameplay style. You're exploring a quiet room, an android appears so you hide under a desk. The android traps you under the desk and stands there. The game decides the alien will now appear. The alien kills you, as you are defenceless. Back to the save point!
You are in a long, straight corridor. The alien drops from a vent in front of you. About 6 feet away, facing towards you. Despite the fact you've been crouch-walking for the last 10 minutes, have used no items, not stepped on any loud surfaces, the game has decided the alien knows where you are. The motion tracker didn't detect it. Either way, it kills you before you have a chance to draw a molotov cocktail. Shooting it doesn't work, so you die. And back to the checkpoint for you, my friend.
I nailed the alien earlier in the game with 4 headshots - it didn't even flinch. I know the xenomorph is supposed to feel like an invincible terror - and in the first Alien film, it was. But in the second film, they had guns, much like Ripley who has a revolver and at present, about 55 bullets. They're practically useless, as they can't be used to kill the creature - forget what you saw in the second movie, headshots don't work. They shouldn't have bothered giving you a gun in this game, as it's useless against the alien and the human vs human combat is terrible too. It would have been scarier to not have a gun, at least then you'd feel defenceless against human aggressors, and wouldn't be annoyed that you can't use 44. headshots to ward off an alien. I'd read this game has a massive plot hole, I don't know what it is (and I don't want to know until I find it or I finish the game and look it up) but the gun appears to be a gameplay hole.

Started on this last night and got to the point where the shutters come down. I lost my nerve after that and quit. Bloody terrifying. As a long time Alien fan this is epic so will be trying to savour it and man up a bit
I have played game like this in the past, can only be played in small doses (30-45min) as you just get too wired into the game.... BOO! Looking forward to renting this on PS4 when i get time

Yup - exactly the same here. I find myself with heart racing while being hunted, or making a break for it and hoping I don't get spotted. A very intense gaming experience! Can anyone confirm that the first time the alien is encountered (other than when your first mate gets killed) is when it drops down from the vent when turning off the lockdown?
I think mine sort of glitched because I had it wandering around (and killing me many multiple times) ages before that from just after when I got past all the humans after picking up the hacking tool. It made even getting to the 'turn off lockdown' bit an absolute nightmare!
There was no big introduction to the alien it was just there when I went through a door which makes me think it may not have supposed to be there until the vent cutscene?

The first time it's encountered, as in the scripted, non-bug version, is right before you enter a transit car. It is introduced in an sort of in-game cinematic sequence. By the sounds of things, your first encounter was a glitch.I think mine sort of glitched because I had it wandering around (and killing me many multiple times) ages before that from just after when I got past all the humans after picking up the hacking tool. Yes that was the actual first time it is seen but doesn't 'come into play'. It was however waiting for me on the other side of the transit car which made getting past the trigger happy humans unbearably hardAfter Axel gets killed and you go in the transit car I couldn't find the button and the Alien got me then.
I didn't see it again until lockdown scenes but I could hear it in the vents when tracking back past the working Joes, I saw it again when it took out the trigger happy girl and her group and it's been tracking me all the way to medical which is where I am now.
