The first time you're SUPPOSED to see the Alien is in cutscene format.

The first time you CAN see the Alien is as soon as you enter Sevastapol! (with a time delay)

Apparently they coded it so that if you loiter in one place for too long the Alien will come along to give you a little "Hurry up..."

This is why some people have been seeing the Alien before the cutscene... evidently you're too slow! (As your ships captain says right at the start, they can only orbit the station/gas giant for 24hours)

I played last night and got really frustrated, not in a bad way, but the Alien was crawling around in vents nearby as I could hear it. I had a JOE stalking me around a room that I was trapped in and I needed a window of time to plasma torch an exit route. I couldn't use a Noisemaker to distract the JOE because the Alien would probably hear it and I prefer the company of JOEs... Same goes for shooting him. Cue me playing a childish and savage game of ring-a-ring-a-roses with the Joe. Two medkits, a molotov, a precise stun baton suprise attack and a single Revolver shot to the head and I'd finally killed him. HOW TOUGH ARE THESE GUYS?! Fortunately the Alien didn't get attracted by the shot and I got out.

Brilliant game so far.

Gave the game a good play session at the weekend, Got from the point where the first cutscene with Alex 'gets a fright' to where you transport to the med\sci tower.

Great tension but am a little frustrated with the save system and how patrolling works. I was making my way back from the lockdown disable and had to go through the comms area, there were 3 joe's on patrol and the way it is designed there is a floodlight facing you as you get to a corner and there is a joe standing right by it, so you stop as it a surprise, then you hear the noise that the joe I had previously snuck by could now see me, so I got accosted by 3 joe's, I fought them off and legged it to the elevator door that was near by.

I liked the tension but I didn't like how it was almost impossible to sneak by and if you died its a 15 minute redo of what you just did.

However the randomness can be fun, during the transit between towers you stop off at a transit area, and you just have to call the next shuttle (which is the slowest and loudest activity in the game!!!!) however as there was a save terminal there I decided to explore a bit, found a marshals station, went in and got warned to back off by men with guns, as I did this I heard a thump, a hiss, Violins notes and a thump as I was impaled. I didn't think the alien would have travelled from one tower to the next instantly, a bit cheap, but I get the 'hurry up' mechanic now.

I may still end up throwing my controller through a window in frustration once the game\hunt begins proper.

You can find ways round the JOEs. SOme form of distraction or another route through a vent is often available. Throwing a flare past them so they go check it out, make a distraction hide in a cupboard etc. I completed it on hard so it is possible and there were points when i just didn't have the correct distraction devices and just had to try over and over and over.

I am confident this game would be amazing with the right co-op missions with your mates. Double distractions, multiple aliens etc. What a strategic team game that could be.

I am just at the start of the medlab mission that is apparently a mahoosive ballache as its just you and the alien and most folk die...LOTS!

I have seen a YT vid where the guy was a bit hopeless but didn't die once, I don't mind sneaking about but if I have to go through the sequence again and again as the save point isn't THAT close to the trigger scene.

May have to rage quit after an hour.

Yep - here comes the tricky bit for you.. (well one of them).

I think there is an element of luck where you may get through without dying as there are random elements to the AI of the people and the JOEs. What is interesting is that it was on my first go I got really close to completing that section and died however the next 20 or 30 goes I didn't get as far...

I guess one issue is that if one of the people see you and shoot off a shot, the alien will arrive and paste everything it can see as a result. The people spawn in a different layout each time so you have differing chances of running into them. Then add that if a person spawns in an annoying place and you throw a distraction to get them out of the way and enable you to keep moving, the alien may come too. In other circumstances you decide to try and wait for the person to walk away and during the waiting the alien moves to a new location that on your last attempt was safe... you die die die again and again. I tried that section prob 40-50 times as there isn't a save point for a good long distance... Gd luck :-) Update us as you go.

Cheers,
Steven_RW

I played it on Hard and those people that totally luck there way through it probably aren't playing on hard.

I have thought to myself, that the easier parts of the game that I "lucked my way through" If I hadn't been so lucky there wouldn't have been just about 10 very hard sections in the game and it would have been total murder to keep the enthusiasm to keep going over n over. Such is luck with random events and character/enemy placement I guess... but I hit my limit a few times and very persistent.

Slowly working through this and still loving it. Glad we finally got a game that does the beast and Alien world justice.

I think it shows there is scope and interest for a new proper Alien film if its done right, none of this Prometheus nonsense. Maybe expand on the Amanda story.

Excellent game and great value for 32 quid. Still haven't even got to the reactor core bit yet.

I can only play for 20 minutes at the time. Hugely stressful trying to avoid the Alien but so satisfying when he disappears again! biggrin

Ahhh yes... I spent too long cowering in that room, wish I'd never gone in there.

This game has missions?

That's the medical centre right? An offshoot room to the east? I didn't realise till further around the area that there was an electrical tunnel into/out of it. The Alien patrolled right outside and into this room for ages. Thought I'd never get out. used a noisemaker but it only distracted (read: Severely pissed off) the Alien for a moment.

I have noticed further in that the line of sight for the Alien seems to be very hit and miss. Like I have full vision of the Alien, but it can't see me because I'm stood behind a coatstand type of thing. Maybe I'm getting lucky, maybe the Alien is quite blind (do they have eyes? Is there a Xenomorph anatomy website somewhere?), maybe the coding means that the Aliens vision strafes from side to side meaning that it's "looking away" at times when it should see me. I'm not sure. Oddly it breaks the immersion slightly but also increases the tension because you're never quite sure if you're visible or not.

However... I have a flamethrower now... bh...

Also, I watched Aliens over the weekend. Terribly sad moment when they mention that Amanda was dead. Knowing that during the game Ellen is out there somewhere, alive.

Yeah they are broken down into missions but its not made clear.

I am just about to start the mission after the med bay and watching a few real time playthrough videoas I have an idea what I am doing.

I don't want to spoil it but the constant back and forth-ing I would rather just have to worry about avoiding the thing than thinking where I am going. I get the tension but hiding in a locker with the off chance it might just appear as I step out and I die is getting old.

I want to finish the story but a level that should take 15 minutes taking over an hour through deaths would get stale.

Im in 2 minds if I finish it or trade it in against hale master chief collection, the game is so beautiful and atmospheric and I don't want to wuss out, but I don't have that much spare time just now so I feel its a bit wasted.

I'm now playing the Nostromo based DLC with the original cast. Very cool playing as Ripley. And it's under a fiver - recommended for all who enjoy the main mission

Re: line of sight.

The Alien doesn't have eyes. According to all the books it senses motion and also life forms.

Are you playing on hard?

The only way you can play on 'Normal' with an Xenomorph is to bug out, escape to orbit and Nuke the whole site... ;-)

There is no 'Normal' when a Xeno is on the scene hehe

Had bit of a bargain today, I just upgraded from ps3 to ps4 and I noticed that Game have reduced the price on Alien isolation on the ps4 to £24.99 plus they are price matching other shops for trade ins.
Long story short they gave me £19 store credit for my ps3 copy so I only ended up paying £5.99 for it, happy days smile

It's 24.99 for both the nostromo and Ripley editions on new gen consoles, I just bought the Ripley edition that has the extra content, great deal if anyone fancies a try.
