I played it on Easy too and it was hard enough for me. You're meant to enjoy playing a video game.

I've just started this and followed the on screen difficulty recommendation of 'Hard: this is how this game should be played'. Am I going to regret this choice, or are you all just big girls blouses?

You are going to be tail fked. Good luck. The Alien will not be your biggest frustration for a while.

Do what I did and drop it to Easy. It's still quite challenging.

I was enjoying the game until I hit a difficulty spike (Chapter 5 - from what I've read subsequently, this is generally accepted to be one of the hardest bits of the game) and really wanted to continue with it but I was in real danger of getting frustrated enough to walk away completely.
Yep, chapter 5 is exactly where I am and it's an utter bh, no pun intended. The lack of save points was nearly making me throw the controller in chapter 4 too. I don't want to knock the game down but as said before, it's supposed to be enjoyed. There's a nightmare setting too which I can only assume is for sandal wearers.

Bring it on. I give it a few hours before I return here, sobbing, and having thrown in the towel biggrin

It's the only way to play it if you really want to experience the alien at its most realistic nastiness.

It does have a few VERY infuriating moments though when you will have to repeat the same attempt over and over till you learn how to succeed and potentially a little luck comes your way.

To me, that makes it all the sweeter when you finally do make it to the next save/level.

Good luck :-)

There may well be some occasions where the big dog doesn't quite insta-kill you..
Well - I had a think and then threw in the towel and started again so now Im back to mission two. The game will be more enjoyable now I can actually heal myself so that I dont have to remain hidden from everything always. annoying, but meh - at least I can do it right this time!

I'm still finding easy a fair challenge, mainly because the Alien will still kill you instantly and if it charges there's no time to throw anything at it. From what I've found so far it's based on noise, so if you walk into the boxes, cylinders etc that are scattered on the floor it will increase its chances of appearing. Still not entirely sure if it can actually see you, or if it goes by sound and smell. I also try and avoid combat at all costs, since the Alien seems to turn up mid fight and kill everyone. By taking it slow and steady I'm not seeing it that often (assuming this might be part of easy difficulty, but the down time is still tense)

I got a PS4 for Xmas (thanks Ms Badger) and have wanted to get this game for a while so I'll be buying it soon. But just wanted to ask, does the sheer amount of times you die impact on the tension of the game? I mean, if you die loads every time you shuffle about a bit loudly does it detract from the breath-holding sweaty-palmness of the game as opposed to if you died a lot less but each time shocked you more because the tension was higher?

Like in COD online multiplayer for example, you die loads but aren't bothered, but in 'search & destroy' where you only have one life, the tension is ramped up and you are scared to die as you know your game will be over for the remainder of the round.

Nope. Most of the time u die in differing locations and each time is a surprise. It also means that when you get a little further than before u are very tense, hoping you get to the save point.

That's good, i did wonder if after a while you stop giving a toss. I guess there are quite long sections where you don't die, then die right near the end of your mission / objective. Must not throw PS4 controller as they are expensive and wireless frown

I must have died a thousand times...however each time I knew I was about to die, i'd look away from the screen and start thinking about how I could do better on the next attempt. So no, if your an alien fan, you won't become blaze (spl?!) :-)

I may be teaching people to suck eggs but for any noobs who got this for xmas and are finding it tough - you have to be REALLY fking quiet. Dont walk anywhere - crawl at all times. Do not bump into anything. If you hear it bumping around in the grates above you then get into cover super quick - because it will be coming and it will find you and it will kill you.

Has anyone else had problems with the game crashing on the 360? I got to the part in the Marshall's Office and it would freeze on the loading screen every time. Only solution was to uninstall disc 2, which is annoying as the whirring of the drive takes away from the atmosphere

Also, how awesome would it be if they made a Terminator game in a similar style?
