No.
Because I changed my mind about wanting it.

Loving this game, it's so tense the heartrate gets going! I have no idea how far I am through but I don't know what's worse, the alien chasing you making massive noise as it homes in on your location or the androids slowly all chasing you in silence lol

Played it for the second time last night and met the alien for the first time after turning off the lockdown procedure. 1st thing i did was bolt to the nearest locker for 5 minutes thinking WTF did i just see.
Think this is the first game i have ever played that has me on edge. Silent hill etc never bothered me at all. I seriously need to get a decent headset for this. got to the part where you meet the Joe blokes for the first time then switched off. Very happy with the game so far. GFX and enviornment are incredible.

One thing that was bothering me last night though, i was under the assumption that other survivors would only shoot if you approached them quite close. the 4 people you meet when the woman is trying to hack the door open were just filling me with bullets each time. I eneded up battering one of the dudes on the first floor in the end with the wrench to get past them.

Yes that bit was tough for me, took a few goes to get around. Ended up smashing a guy on the top floor with the wrench to get past. Im quite far in now, although only being able to play about 30 - 45 mins at a time its taking some doing! Its defiantly not a relaxing game to play after a days work lol

I had to toast the Alien a few times last night with the flame thrower, it got a little too tense so i chickened out at the next save point to play GTA smile

I bought this a couple of days ago, I'm only around 1/2 hour in thereabouts and I haven't met the alien yet, but boy is it dripping with atmosphere! Great visuals, apart from oddly the cut scenes which are a bit juddery. I keep feeling naked without having some kind of gun in my hands as with the usual first person shooters.

Bought this before Christmas - I think I am on Mission 2 now and had to walk away from frustration.

The issue with dying a lot in this game is that it takes away from the drama, on my 52nd attempt it was like I was trying to do a perfect speed run. Press this, walk here, throw that, hide in room, move on - and the more and more i did that the less random the Aliens action appeared to be.

Going to persevere as its an amazingly atmospheric game - but its not one I can play for hours, far to tense!

For people that like Alien also look at Outlast. Picked it up over Christmas in a XBL sale and its a great game and very much the same, as Alien but a bit more scripted - still some very tense oh st moments throughout the game though!

I most admit I did lower the difficulty after a few hours of playing / dying to make it more fun, I only have it on rental!

I'm currently on mission 5 and for the very first time I utilised a locker to hide in (I've been moving quietly and using the MD a lot) when the Alien decided to enter the Dr's room as I was searching it. I am checking the motion detector on a regular basis, saw it heading this way then in, just as the door opened and in it stomped. Made be smile when it took a long hard look at the anatomical skeleton hanging in the room before, looking directly at me.................then turning and stomping off up the corridor.

Does hiding under desks work as well? It puts you into a much lower crouch.

Hiding under a desk works unless you come into its LOS.Remember it can hear the pings from your motion detector

Yep, it's not on all the time, just on and off with a quick 360 scan when going into new areas or if I hear anything if not it's done as a quick routine scan.

Love hearing about everyone's experiences in this game.

If you come from the old-school of gaming where dying was quite a regular thing and you were punished for it, rather than re-spawning right where you died, then I think you shouldn't be shocked by how tough this game is.

Rather than dying suspending the tension permanently, it only does until you get past that section and the next new section becomes even more tense again imo.

I didn't play anything bar the main mission from end to end on hard. I think I may re-buy it for some of the DLC.

Steven

I'm currently now in the staff accommodation, either hiding in a locker or hiding behind the bar in the next room, the Alien is always stomping around the area and I'm unable to move on and I'm not making noise. Shame you can't save where you want to.

I've only died twice, once at the hands of the 4 armed humans in the large atrium area just before you get the door scanner and once by the Alien in the medical facility.

the desperate hope of finding the next save telephone adds to the drama IMHO. It works in this context. Also because it isn't on rails being able to save anywhere would spoil it

Yes but when you been squatting down crying in a locker for an hour you kind of hope it's not all in vain hehe

It's a great game - as you will see from my rants on this thread I went from hate to love. I'd say its probably still the best thing on next gen. Proper arse clenching tension. Hard to find in most of the other formulaic bks on offer

This is true, finding the next save point is key and every minute longer you are alive the more tense it gets, brilliant.... but this game makes me forget to blink lol

Got this as a gift for Xmas. Not had much time to play really but spent a good hour on it a week or two ago and another 45 mins last night.

Really really tense. Do find I just feel knackered after playing it for this amount of time. Love the atmosphere and it's all just done so well.

My only complaint being the actual Alien. I met it for the first time on my first play. It wasn't unexpected, nor in the slightest bit scary, ripping off a scene from the first film which I thought was a poor effort. I later met the alien again for the second time yesterday trying to find a new sensor for the door unlocking device. It came down from the roof and then casually wandered off down a corridor with the only exit being a door that I hadn't restored the power to yet. I tried to follow but it had vanished, seemingly into thin air, or magically opened and closed the door behind it...

I then found it terrorising some people up by another door I needed the door opening device thing to open. It was slowly stopping around as they ran in terror. People criticised how the Aliens moved in Colonial Marines but this was pretty much on par with that. The animation of the alien out in the open was nothing but comical. Quite disappointing.

I'm finding the androids far more creepy. bd things.

Just wait until you encounter the ones in the orange suits.

I've made it to mission 14 now, and have just found facehuggers and a load more aliens. Great.
