For me, once you played one, you've played them all - yes some of the most recent ones look good, but the level of interaction is terrible, in reality the maps are made up of very nicely painted walls.

Oh and yes the multi-player, which is frankly 90% of it these days hasn't changed in years and years - it's mindless running about in a game of who sees who first - you can't blame human nature - it's a tactic that works well for people who play it for hours at a time, but they could change it to promote a more measured approach - but they don't.

I think COD and BF franchises have got a bit stale along with a lot of the gaming industry they have found a formula that makes money and have stuck too it.

Indie games are where its at these days. If you have a PC get on Steam have a look at the 1000s of games that are available, have a look at what they tried to do with planetside 2, how about tribes, and that Tom Clancy first person shooter with its cover system, these are all free to play games that add innovations to the genre or you could buy a £60 game that is the same as the last one.

The new one is alright. It's not going to break any mold soon, and I note with interest that pre-orders were down 40% on last year. I'm guessing everyone who pre-ordered Ghosts felt stung, as it was ste!

Anyway, I've played a few multiplayer games, not yet dabbled in the single player but I hope to have a go of that soon.

There are some good maps in this. It's going to be compared again and again to Titanfall, so no, the maps aren't as good as the Titanfall set but what I have seen so far is good, for a COD game. The one in the Chinese resort is really nice to look at and plays very well, and the one in the Korean 'water garden on a skyscraper roof' thing looks fantastic too. But, is there a 'Nexus' or an 'Angel City' here? No, I don't think so. Playing it, it's fun but you don't get that eye melting rush of excitement that Titanfall gives.

The Exos don't change the game all that much, it seems, although a classic playlist has been included without exo abilities. The long and short of them seems to be occasional cloaking, or double jumping. The maps do include considerably more 'verticality', to quote many a developer, but it's not a game changer. It still feels like COD, though it's undoubtedly the biggest shakeup the MP formula has had in a while. Otherwise, it largely seems to have taken a lot of influence from Treyarch's MP design, with a 'pick' system, customisable emblems and asymmetric maps.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to kicking the arse out of it.

The biggest prob;em with the COD series has been the reliance on the onld game engine. See the link here for an explanation and see why its so screwed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyCQtUFOJmA&li...

Until they sort the issues with this ancient game engine then I'm not giving another penny to the COD franchise.

I believe MW2 was the pinnacle of the COD series and has been on a slippery slope to obscurity ever since.

If they brought in a new game engine and used it in a remastered MW2 set up and got rid of the cheating quick scoping then it would be as close to perfect as could reasonably be expected.

I bought it at 1pm this afternoon in sainsburys after going to buy some milk, I had pre ordered but I could not be bothered to get it at midnight tonight, so they let me get it there and then, which was cool.

I have played a few quick matches on multiplayer, it is fast and fun. I was not sure at first, a few people moaning in my lobby how crap it is. I have just handed it to my 14 year old son who is now playing on his first go he is top of the lobby and he reckons it is brilliant and better than ghosts which he thought was rubbish.

So on balance, I reckon it was worth a punt.

The lad reckons it is very good, wait till the 10 year old brother who is in bed sees it and has a go. He is like a machine on this type of game.

Semi tempted to give this ago.

What are the costs involved with playing online these days on PS4? I've come from Xbox 360 paying my £40 a month a year and that's it. Now we have all these season pass things.

Assume I have to purchase PSN Plus. Is do I need a pass as well?

I remember playing GTA Vice City when I must have been about 8 or 9. I survived and not going around robbing banks, hijacking cars, managing a brothel etc.

Call of Duty is not nearly as bad as that. It's virtually shooting people in a war combat environment and harder to relate to day to day activities.

I preferred the WWII Call of Duty games over the newer ones. Enjoyed MW 1 & 2 but the franchise has lost its direction IMO.

To me, it depends entirely on the child and use of in game settings.

If you have a child that will repeat every swear word he/she hears on TV/games/films etc then certainly don't let them play it. If your child knows not to repeat it then that's different. If your child gets a bit crazy or wild after playing shooting games then don't let them play them. You can easily turn off all the in game chat etc.

IMO World at War (the last WW2 one) was the best, if I hadn't lent it to a friend I'd still be playing it over Black Ops.

I didn't mind MW1-3, though when it went all futuristic it lost me.

I really don't think these type of games are suitable for anyone under the age of 16..

I bought Advanced Warfare on disc and it still took hours to install (could play missions in the meantime).

I found the campaign quite entertaining. Then I had a major glitch - got in this mini boat thing and screen was jumping all over the place. Loss of life resulted in more of the same. Didn't have time to restart the mission, so no idea if just was unlucky.

I'm the polar opposite of Baryonyx, I've liked (mostly) the Infinity Ward stuff and hated (without exception) the Treyarch stuff. The campaign for AW felt more like the Infinity Ward of old than Treyarch which meant the game kept my attention for more than a few minutes.

Only had a quick game online so will need more time.

I also find sub £40 for a game way less offensive than £50+ (despite potentially having hours of gaming).

Gave up on CoD with the release of Ghosts. CoD4 was the best, MW2 was good too.

Always wanted to get into Battlefield but a combination of diminishing spare time and reports of Battlefield being a buggy mess meant I never picked it up.

Now it seems the developers are just out to make as much money out of the players as possible whilst turning out games that are getting worse not better.

What's the best independent option? For racing sims rFactor seems to be a genuine indie option to GT and Forza. Is there not an open source or indie first person shooter that has the playability of CoD 4?

I think the downfall of CoD was down to the adding of more and more ridiculous perks. Maps becoming carbon copies of each other with everything being CQ.

Remaster CoD4 with the good maps from the other incarnations, no perks, no mans best friend.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

If the CoD/Battlefield community got together and made an open source CoD4 beater with awesome maps and gameplay it would be epic!

I used to get pretty much every release, up until the original black ops I think. When Modern Warfare 3 came out I just couldn't be bothered. I do now own that game, so that I could finish the modern warfare story, but I'm always very disappointed by the online play. The maps are just so incredibly small, and they've made the sniper rifles pointless to actually use as sniper rifles, people just no scope kill all the time.

I'd give anything to play Modern Warfare again.
