As many of you may know, the new COD is out on Monday. I used to absolutely love COD3 and 4 on the xbox360 but ive not played any COD game since MW2 sometime ago. Now i am thinking of buying Advanced warfare.

I have noticed though over the last few years that many people seem to be fed up with the whole COD franchise. What is it that has changed about the games in general? Is the campaign still good? Or is the dislike that COD is much more restrictive on what is possible, say compared with the likes of Battlefield and Destiny?

Anyone else planning on buying it?

For me it just has no soul if you can call it that, I enjoyed the first games much more. If they remade CoD 1 & 2 I would be very happy, instead its just the same old crap and with a massive price tag.

They've gotten progressively worse with each instalment (since MW2) but the originals were outstanding.

I've always found something to enjoy, all bar last years on the PS4. Which I thought was bks.

They campaigns are st, they were amazing back in the day but the gameplay model is exactly the same now as it was then - scripted, cinematic, linear crap - though it must be said that Treyarch did try a lot harder than lazy Infinity Ward to break this. The MP mode is just spazzy ADHD twitch shooting for morons.

I've toyed with getting this, same as the OP in that MW2 was the last I played. I was a BF fan following Bad Company, but unfortunately I don't think that the latest BF is a patch on previous titles. I'll wait to see what happens with COD because it might just be OK.

I used to like them but then I started playing battlefield and frankly the difference is black and white. I mean, on Battlefield, you can drive a tank, or if someone else has a tank, lob C4 at them and blow them to kingdom come. So many ways to kill people and die, hilarious fun. Oh, and huuuuge maps too.

I turned away from COD not because I hated it but because I got bored with the Franchise. I love Battlefield despite the horrendous start it has had with all the online issues. I got tired of the same map constructions with the same colour palette. I love the little things in games such as the sound of battle in the distance as your running that you get in Battlefield but not in COD aswell as the vehicles available. It's just really cool to be capturing a point in a tank and a friendly attack Helicopter just hovers slightly above you, you don't get that with COD.

Nailed it for me.

I enjoyed COD1, COD2 and MW1 - but the rest of the series is meh.. COD3 was because some other company made it and it lacked the near perfection of the first two, and the rest because they were MW1 re-skinned with loads of DLC.

Jesus, how much money do these guys have, and they're reusing motion capture sequences so blatantly.

Ironically, when I clicked your link, it auto-played an unskippable COD: Advanced Warfare trailer - the trailer is so outlandish and stupid I actually thought it was a COD joke video that you had deliberately posted, then I realised it was an advert that Activision have actually paid for. I imagine it will have looked cool as fk to 9 year olds though.

This.

Always reminds me of that video of the CoD finals and the rampant OTT competativeness laugh

Infinity Ward have done a huge amount of damage to the brand, mainly because their constant rehashing of the formula quickly got stale. Treyarch never had the technological edge but they were so much more creative with the formula. Sadly, each in update seems less remarkable. MW2 and Ghosts were simply unadulterated rubbish too.

They even skimped on money in the new COD. They couldn't even afford a helicopter and had to use an old pickup wink

Shows what they think of their demographic though to be so blatant.

I am like a lot of others here, the COD series has lost its way and it's no where near as fun as it used to be.

I had no interest in getting the new one, I think Titanfall and destiny have been fun and moved things along.

My kids still play the earlier COD series on the xbox360 and love it but do not seem to want to play ghosts on the xboxone which I bought when I picked up the console new.

Then one of my sons showed me a multiplayer review video on YouTube done by a chap who shared my view that COD multiplayer had been getting worse with each new one and that he had low hopes and little interest in a new one, his verdict was that they seemed to have injected fun back in to the multiplayer with some new games.

It looked interesting so I have preordered it and if it is not very good then at least my kids will play it.

Can not find the link now as it was on one of son's gadgets.

Similar to others, the last games have been so much better.

I only really got into COD on the original MW. Was at school at the time so racked up hours of gameplay on that. Very impressed. Campaign was okay.

World at War. Contrary to a lot of people thoughts of the game. I thought this was great. Nice big, empty space maps rather than these small boxes. No other COD IMO has got close to this

MW2. Similar to MW1, was good, still enjoyable on the multiplayer front with some good maps. Campaign was really bad IMO. Didn't like it.

Black Ops came out. This was the first one I thought wasn't great. I warmed up to it, but then landed myself a one month ban from the game due to having a Swastika as my emblem (they were create you own for those who don't know). Considering this was a war game, and people got away with having genitals as emblems, this was ridiculously and never played Black Ops again. Swastika's also feature in the campaign so was crazy IMO.

Got MW3 and only played it occasionally. The multiplayer felt a lot more arcade like. Got rid of stopping power which was annoying. The maps wall all very small and closterfobic. Really didn't rate it.

That's as far as my experience has been with COD. Seen the new trailer and not impressed if I'm honest. I seem to recall a seen where it looked like someone a jet pack sort of thing. Doesn't appeal to me.

They just need to go back to their roots, and do a proper war game. We've never had one from the Russians invading the Germans from the east around 1944. I'd love that. Guess that's not what the kids of today want though; not modern enough.

Got advanced warfare on friday, very much blops 2 graphics wise, i havent seen a decent sniper map yet which i miss from MW days, the jumping is retarded and i think its going to ruin the game for me to be honest, I have bought every COD since COD3 and play it pretty much every day for an hour or so, but this might be the straw that broke the camels back.

I'm pretty pissed as i can't get on with BF4 at all, the only thing good about the game is that if you play COD you can pretty much just pick it up and start playing and do well.

Doesn't sound good then. I'm the same, don't like bf4 at all. I'll probably just get the extra titanfall maps for some shooting action.

^That pretty much. The first two games where brillitantly done, COD1 having some of the best multi-player maps ever made. Dawnville is a brilliantly balanced map for example.

The later games just seem to all be about the lowest common denominator: running and gunning with very little skill.

Thankfully the "Darkest Hour 44-45" mod for Red Orchestra is almost as good as the first COD was.

I moved away from COD when the PVP became full of racist homophobic morons who would spend each match screaming slurs at everyone on the map!

Ok, I know that i let off the occasional fk sake or st etc. but damn there is young teens running around saying i'm gonna rape your mum, kids etc. to me that's not acceptable in any part of life.

Now i know this is an 18 cert game but I don't want that kind of media in my life, yes I know that you can mute players and set up party chat - but why should you have to?

I can completely see why Bungie nurfed it in Destiny - I have control who I speak/listen to without having to spend every load out screen muting idiots!
