XBox question.
Discussion
I know nothing about games consoles and would appreciate some pointers please.
For children not yet 10 do I need an Xbox 360 or Xbox 1? I think Minecraft is the main interest. They have said 360 but a friend of mine says the 1 will last them longer.
Can an Xbox be connected to a TV at the same time as a Wii U?
Many thanks

360 has a LOT more games available, will be cheaper, and ten year olds wouldn't benefit from the advances in technology in a One.
I can see how it might seem odd investing in older technology, but a 360 would be my recommendation, and they'd have PLENTY to open at Christmas.
Oh and connecting a Wii and Xbox will depend on your TV's setup and what other things are plugged into where. Xbox360 uses component/scart, xbox One uses HDMI, if I remember rightly.

I've been told that the Xbox360 and XboxOne are not able to speak to each other. My grand-daughter plays Minecraft over the network with her pals, and all have had to get parents agree NOT to buy XboxOne for Xmas, as all would have to upgrade if the kids wanted to continue playing together.
I'm no expert - merely repeating what I've been told, so don't shoot the messenger if I'm wrong!

Get a 2nd hand 360 from CEX or similar with a warranty - job done.
No need for an Xbox one to play Minecraft or similar kids games, it's not worth paying for the extra, and unused, processing power.
All multiplayer console games are not cross platform - xbox and playstation cannot play together for example, same for xbox 360, xbox one, PS2/3/4/ etc.
You can have both connected to the tv at the same time, dependant on your tv.
But you can only play one at a time on the tv so doesn't matter if you need to swap a connection round to swap consoles, anyway

I'd say the 360 has 1-3 years of "life" left in it...by that I mean the new "big name" games will have stopped coming out on the 360.
That said there is a massive backlog of games (years worth), cheaply available, for the 360.
As per other posts the main thing, if not now then soon, will be what all their friends have so they can play together.

The TV is a 3 year old Panasonic and fixed to the wall. I don't want to have to fanny about plugging in and unplugging stuff if I can avoid it.
As said in another thread, now is the best time ever to buy a 360. New prices are as low as they will ever be, the console is mature with a huge fanbase and what? 7-8 years worth of games available with a huge secondhand market for preowned games from a few quid upwards. The console is still relevant with new titles still being released on it and it's not going to disappear over night. The prices for the new gen consoles are still very high and game prices high too, with a lot of the games just being ports of the 360 versions with fancy graphics.
My advice for buying used would be to make sure you get the newer "Slim" version. The old fat xboxes were prone to overheating and failure which plagued the console. I believe the Slim version fixed the issue. Price differences on the used market will be minimal anyway.
