I tried it last night, PITA mission.

Doing it from the safe house at the centre-bottom of the map, as it's literally in site of the Bolter (on the railway tracks) and is only a yard, so I can keep running back and hopping the fence to safety.

Still didn't manage to grab the sample. There's like 5 Volatiles guarding him, and even throwing a tonne of Firecrackers they don't seem to move more than a few metres away. I Molotov'd a couple of them but that scared off the Bolter..

I did it at last. Went to different safe house near a petrol station(I think) bus right next to it. Had to sleep few times as was big bosses next to him but after a few nights he was by himself, 1st go I killed him and run back to safe house sleep but body was gone but got him next time. Very easy to kill

I wasn't sure if you had to kill it for just sneak up and grab the sample before it 'bolts' - what did you use to kill it?

I've got a police rifle with 16 rounds that I've been saving, I may use a couple of those shots to take him down effectively, the aim-down-sights seems to autoaim at the heads.

Thats exactly what I did too. Its on the right hand side of the map.
I just sneaked up to the bus which is right beside the safehouse and the bolter, threw a firework to distract the other zombies, then killed him, ran back into the safehouse to escape the inevitable pursuit, then waited till the volatiles moved off, went outside to collect the sample and then ran back into the safehouse to sleep till morning.

FFS - last night I must have died 20 times on the first night mission where you have to sneak home under the cover of darkness having got to the airdrops. No matter what I do I get spotted by the virals or blunder into a regular Z which creates sufficient commotion for a viral to come. I can't kill the virals and outrunning them works about once in 4 times. I'm clearly missing a trick somewhere???
Oh it doesnt help probably that I played the preceeding segment while 'refreshed' so safehouses etc between here and there are still hostile....
Craft as many flares as you can they work better than the UV light and while your running away from the virals chuck one a decent distance in front of you and when you get there the Virals come to a stop then chuck another where your running. It works wonders!

Playing at night is loads of fun I didn't like it to start with but this flare strategy makes being chased exciting as you stand as very good chance of escape and you get huge XP.

You know, I haven't even used a flair yet! Is the aim / throw mechanic the same as something like a molotov? I'll have a go with them tonight and see how I do. Do the volatiles actually run away from the flair or do they just lurk nearby?

They do run away from a flare, and they tend to bugger off for a bit. Same with the UV light.

You're better off using the UV light at night, as it is much easier to blind the infected with it. When they're close to you, shine the UV light on them and listen for the 'sizzle' noise and watch for the outline of their skeleton becoming visible. That indicates a UV blinding and will make the infected bugger off. UV flares can do the same but take a much longer exposure to produce the same result, and are therefore not as useful for scaring off the infected. However, the flares can be of use when you're being chased by multiple infected and you get trapped, but that should be a rare occurrence, especially if you use car and light traps during chase sequences.

I made some Night Vision Booster with herbs I'd collected, I've found that really useful in the dark too.

You might be somewhat disappointed with the ranged weapons, they don't very little damage against the zombies compared to the melee weapons. They're very effective against hostile humans though.

The Flare is a better night time deterrent if you chuck the flare towards where your running same action as the Molotov.

On a separate note I found an easier way to collect the air drops when you are confronted with goons, if you have found a Gun just point it at one of them and some them will run off and the ones that stay will keep their hands in the air while you loot the air drop if your quick enough, giving you time to run off if you don't want to fight, although a single well aimed shot the head is way more fun.

Happy Slaying

I love taking out groups of goons. I keep a stock of exploding throwing stars, use take on of them out and use the bang to draw infected to them, then just watch the battle from a rooftop laugh

If I get bored of waiting I'll L2-hold 2 or 3 stars and send them flying..

If anyone has tried to challenge where you have to shoot 60 zombies with the assault rifle in two minutes, you have surely plumbed the depths of gaming. I'm fairly certain this was not play tested.

I'm quickly reaching the point where I feel like life is too short to play steaming heaps of st like this.

No PS4 for me, but I will be resolving that later in the year. Bloodborne is the primary reason I'll be making the purchase.

Yep, Bloodborne is the reason I bought a PS4 but I'll admit, I've had a lot of fun with it in recent weeks and it's great having both the Xbox One and the PS4 in front of the television.

That weapon challenge for the assault rifle is a right turd. I tried it about five times and was never closer than 3 or 4 kills to actually finishing it, so I never bothered.

I just spent 40 minutes trying to do this before I almost spear tackled my tv in frustration. I got 57!! And that was only once, most times I'm finishing in the high 40's

I got 59 multiple times before giving up. If you're trying for the "Complete 15 agility and combat challenges" achievement, that can be done without having to do the assault rifle challenge. The assault rifle challenge feels broken, it's listed as "easy", but it feels to me like they meant to put it down as 40 kills, but instead made it a 50 kill challenge.

I've got it on pc do I don't think it has achievements. I still really like the game and I'm enjoying all the other missions but this challenge really does seem hard.
