I have just started this, played a few hours. First impressions are good, it looks amazing and feels slick too. There are a lot of neat touches like the x-ray mode when you score a critical hit, and the free-running, the aspect of the game that worried me the most, doesn't feel too bad.

I had a moment earlier where I came a across a zombie in an apartment, sealed off from the outside. I dropped in through the roof to explore, and I ended up with the zombie on the kitchen floor, stuck up against the cooker as I kicked it's head in, every now and again giving it a smack with a gas pipe. Honestly, it looked like some sort of gritty murder simulator - they'll be up in arms about this in Germany, if it's even been released there.

Just completed it.
Very impressed with this game, and I'm still playing it to complete the side missions.

I didn't really want to finish it smile

I've read that it's best to almost ignore the main story and have fun doing all the side missions..

Got home and Amazon were sold out it seems too...

Seems to be a challenge to get a PS4 disc....

I just bunged in an order for the Xbox One in October and sat and waited! Now I'm desperately struggling to finish Killzone: Shadow Fall so I can concentrate on Dying Light!

Met a super hero zombie last night. I was doing a slide mission clearing out some bandits when the noise attracted a viral who proceeded to attack and kill 3 out of the 4 bandits I was fighting, I actually thought it was an NPC helping me with the way it was moving then when the bandits were dead it just ran off into the distance!

Wonder if it was someone in the 'Be the Zombie' mode of the game.

Started this, have played a few hours and am enjoying it on the PS4.

Environment looks really good. It is feeling nice to free roam around which is my preferred style (Skyrim, Fallout etc.). I'm generally enjoying the storyline and the game doesn't feel restrictive.

Re: the first next gen game, according to OP, I think Alien Isolation had that tag for me.

Cheers

To a certain extent i did ignore the main storyline, only so that i could level up and find better weapons.
This made the story levels much easier though.

Well I've had an enjoyable evening making Molotov cocktails, The Lacerator, kicking zombies to death and using gas cylinders to lovingly caress their soulless skulls.

Me likey smile

Here's a hint: Learn how to stomp on the zombies head as soon as you can (the finishing move)
This is a great way to take out the running zombies in one hit, when you're standing upon a van or bus.

So last night I had to climb some radio towers to activate them and zipline off the top. I thought I had accidentally turned on Far Cry 4 for a minute...

Right now this game isn't sucking me in as much as I thought, primarily because even a few hours in I've got no weapons good enough to dispatch zombies quickly - so even the most slow and shambling zombie takes all the hits I can give, then retreat to build stamina, then repeat a few times - by which time more zombies have arrived.

I'm sure when I get access to some better weapons this will be more fun but for now it's a bit slow moving for my tastes.

I'm actually really enjoying this game.

Gone around the slums and have opened up all the safe houses pretty much, just to make my travels easier if I get caught out at dusk.

The Lacerator is a bit of a cool weapon, The Night Club can be useful near water too.

Anyone know how I can join random peoples games? I can only see how to let people join mine.

Hi Dobbo,
I found that too, but learn to kick to keep them back. You can kick them and still recover your stamina. Also search every tool box/create/dismembered zombie you can find. The parts all help with upgrading the weapons.
I found that when i was on a certain level of weapon (so when the weapons you can use have a hit value of 200+), all other weapons found were of a similar level.
Oh and use the blueprints to upgrade the weapons.
At the end of my game i was running around with a machete with a level 1280 hit. Which would take out the nasty night zombies with a couple of hits.
Running around at night was no longer a problem smile

Thanks Deano - having hacked and slashed my way through all the Dead Island games I knew that better weapons make all the difference - the key thing being better weapons are much harder to come by in Dying Light... Noted on searching all the boxes, think I've been a bit too busy running around like a maniac drop kicking zombies and need to slow down!

This was a key tactic on the Dead Island games too, preserve your weapons in one on one fights by using the head stamp execution.

I've found the dropkick to be very handy too, particularly when upgraded, as it gains impossible, physics-breaking properties and creates a sort of zombie cannon effect. Makes it easy to get the "This is HARRRRRRRRAN" achievement.
