I cleared 80Gb on my C:\ drive for the Steam download (65Mb) but the game actually needed 130Gb free space to decrypt the downloaded files. I had to jettison a LOT of old software and games to make way for it in the end.

It's lush: great at 60fps and 1920 x 1080 is fine. There seems to be loads more going on than in GTA4 and the visuals are breathtaking.

The worldwide critical acclaim and the fact it made over $2billion before it got to PC's would disagree with that statement. Every version of the game is sublime.

If the PC verison does anything it shows that the game itself is sublime but the hardware to run it to its full capacities just was not fully there.

I would say the game is sublime but the experience on PS3 and XB360 can leave a lot to be desired. I know a number of people who gave up on those versions well before the end of the game, due to the frame rate frustration. They still contributed to the $2billion it generated.

In fact dodgy framerate has dogged every version of GTA since it went 3D. The PC version of V, is the GTA I've always dreamed of.

Exactly.I felt bitter that all the promises of 60 fps on the latest consoles simply didn't happen.I would rather they had left it looking like the 360/PS3 version and used the extra horses to make it run better.

Many simply don't miss what they don't have, so of course would have enjoyed it and purchased it.A friend at work has been defending his PS4 version for months. He couldn't and wouldn't understand why I stopped playing; then he popped in and tried the pc version. He now says he won't be able to fully enjoy his PS4 version again.Even using a pad to shoot in first person mode (rather than the mouse) he admitted it was worth having it on pc for that alone!

But your PC probably cost more than either the Xbox One or the PS4. How much did SLI'd 670's cost?

The specs of the consoles were always there, we knew what they were comparable to. I even got shouted down on here when I said we'd be lucky to see 1080p for games, let alone 60fps and 1080p.

Hi,

I played GTA 5 on the Ps3 when it came out and Ps4 when it came out. Ps4 being a big step up over Ps3 but both enjoyable.

What makes the PC version that much better please? Any simple summary other than the gfx are better would be great. I experienced the gfx step up from Ps3 to Ps4 and enjoyed that. Is it a similar improvement again or is there more to it?

Thanks

I know you said apart from graphics, but I would imagine better anti-aliasing and more eye-candy would still be noticeable if you got a beefy enough PC.

I hate the load times of a console which is ironic given that they are supposed to be switch on and play type games.

I also find that being further away from the screen when console gaming makes the finer detail less noticeable and consoles generally have much lower texture resolutions, on PCs you can probably read the newspaper that is lying on the floor, on a console you don't even realise there is a newspaper on the floor..

but the biggest difference as someone has already mentioned would be the modding community i think.
downloading branded cars and driving a car you own or like in the real world makes it so much better, not to mention the more in depth mods.

I only ever buy 2nd hand, so after selling my old GPU's, the two matched 670's cost me £80 (they were 90 each)

The differences will be mods (the most significant thing), Rockstar Editor, framerate, ability to play at 1440p/4K resolutions (obviously you need monitor and GPU(s) to support, that means GTX 980 SLI for 60fps on Ultra @ 4K).

Okay that all makes sense thanks.

I felt it worth buying from Ps3 to Ps4 for the graphical improvement. It really does look better and lush (relatively, compared to Ps3 ver) so I felt worth it.

Issue I have is that I don't have an up to date gaming rig PC so would need to buy n build one...

One thing I do think that is better with my console versus most PCs is that I am running it on a 50" tv and have a proper home cinema surround setup with large sub. I'd be loathe to play it on something less all encompassing and engrossing as it feels when playing my console in it's current room.

Easy solution there is building a HECK of a PC :-)

Cheers

My pc also runs via hdmi to my 42" 3D tv.It looks better on it than my consoles do and also sends digital sound to an amp.In fact i used a 32" lcd tv as a monitor for over a year.I only went back to a monitor primarily to use Nvidia 3D.You can still use a 3D tv for this, but you sacrifice refresh rates.

I got a decent pair of headphones and think it is likely better than being in a cinema room since you are guaranteed to be in a sweet-spot for sound.
A decent Pc will cost you a packet, but only once, as you upgrade, you ebay the stuff you replace as well as save a ton of money on the price difference of games. Any popular PC title will easily be at least £10 cheaper than a comparable console title due to royalties and license fees.

The highest turnover in a PC today is the graphics card, which is also the biggest initial price. get a budget i5 CPU and you will be set on that front until at least the PS5 comes out.

get a 1440p or a 4k monitor and a decent GPU such as this:
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-asus-strix-gtx-...

Get an SSD drive of 250gb and another for storage 1TB>

Don't bother getting more than 12Gb ram. even 8 will be plenty

so your initial price will be around £700 without the monitor, but will already be 1-2 generations ahead of the latest console today and stay current/ahead throughout the life-cycle of consoles. And with a lower cost of buying games it is actually not that far off from a console's overall cost, but much more flexible as you get a work PC with your gaming PC. With a gaming console you just get a gaming console smile

The only thing I can say in defence of consoles is that things always work and are always compatible. No glitches to sort out.

After a bit of advice,

I've got GTA V on PS3, it's the only game I really play and frankly I get an hour a week, two tops to do so.

Despite that I've been looking at PS4, but I can't justify paying out hundreds for the sake of an hour a week.

So the PC version appeals - BUT, if I've got to spend a fortune on PC upgrades, it's all a bit pointless.

What I'm after:

a better looking version than the PS3 version (mine is an original 60GB fat version and on it's last legs, GTA frequently dies and crashes the console)
better online play - heists crash all the time on PS3 and I can waste all my time getting no gameplay so I've given up on them.

What I've got:

SFF Core i5 based PC (not sure on the exact processor, it's 4th gen, but 'business spec' rather than fancy game version)
4GB RAM - but I can upgrade to 8 or 16 - I work in IT so get stuff for trade, plus there's always some laying around the office I can borrow.
Nvidia 2GB GPU - again, I can't remember the exact model - I could possibly upgrade it, but because the case is SFF and it's a HP it's not easy to get massive ones in there.

I know it won't be earth shattering, I know it won't be 4k (don't care) but I'm thinking it's got to be better than the PS3 'experience' and it seems to be qbove min-spec for it?

This will be my first attempt at PC gaming.

I've got a twin Xeon E5-2630, 64GB Workstation with a Nvidia K4200 graphics card coming to work next week, I might see what it can do on that...

Has there been a new patch? Mine downloaded a 200mb update after my pre-load was unlocked, but it then took approx 15 mins uncompressing.Unless the pre-load included the 5gb I guess.

I have to admit, one thing I grew to hate about the PS3 was the updates if you hadn't used it for a while.A "quick go" of Gran Turismo could turn into an hour of staring at a near blank screen.

No I don't believe so. Just the disk version needs a 5gb update before any other patches - The downloaded version already has this 5gb in it.

Add 4GB more of RAM and shove in the largest graphics card your SFF build would allow?

To be honest I'd be surprised if you couldn't get very playable frame rates on your current system. My PC is I5 based and very 'mid range' however it plays at 1920x1080 smoothly whilst looking a million times better than the PS3 version.
