I don't remember the Omaha from CBT and was intending to play through just to get the Cleveland. However, I've had some cracking games in it this time round so have decided to keep it.

Well on the basis of what some have written here about the Murmansk I purchased it last night. WOW!

I love it. Yet to kill or hit anything with the torps as i stay at long range and blow the crap out of everything else. Highly recommended!

Really liking this game, I would say as much as tanks and I play that a lot!

I am finding it really hard to hit stuff at say 15km and over. My Jap BS only has 3 guns and a 20 second reload so it hurts a fair amount if I miss.

Any tips? I am firing 1 gun at a time and using a spotter.

I was born to be wild, so I generally fire all of my guns at once (and explode into space). shoot

The dispersion on battleship rounds in particular is pretty bad, so a shotgun approach is often the best way.

Hitting things at range takes experience and a bit of luck. It helps if you know the range, so make sure you have the alternative battle interface enabled in the settings. Then you don't have to keep pressing alt to see this info.

Battleships start getting slightly easier on the yank side past the South Carolina. The wyoming comes with a lot of turrets and a quicker reload rate, not as big hitting but it can certainly scattershot enough to get 3k+ damage a volley.

I have similar problems hitting stuff with my BBs. Even when I do figure out the range the salvos usually straddle either side of the target leaving me grinding my teeth. I then have a 20 to 30 sec reload but that isn't so bad because I am usually spending the time trying to dodge the waves of torpedoes from those pesky strike aircraft.

But damn it all I like the Battleships and want to get gud at them. I just have to L2P.

I am currently on the Kongo and doing my best to upgrade it with every module and upgrade and commander skill possible to improve its accuracy. This thing has the potential to be an absolute beast.

I also managed to unlock the Cleveland last night. Hopefully fun times lie ahead in that thing.

There are only two tier 1 ships and you get them both. The Japanese one is the best of them I think.

Thanks for that, I'll take that route. Hope it has Long Lance torpedos , perhaps a bit early for those though.

You owe it to yourself to also grind for the Tier 3 American Cruiser, the St Louis. It is basically made out of guns and is loads of fun.

In other news. I am having a great time in the Cleveland, still mostly stock but I did manage to grind the top hull last night. That thing looks beautiful as well as being quite deadly.

I also noticed I am more often than not top tier. I guess there are still not that many people who have reached tier 6 as yet, relatively speaking.

As a generalisation, Japanese destroyers tend to be better than US if you want to use torpedoes. US destroyers all have short torpedo ranges which means you have to get suicidally close to something to launch a spread of torpedoes at them. They do have better guns than their Japanese counterparts though.

As already mentioned, the St Louis US cruiser at tier 3 is a good ship - a bit slow and not too manoeuvrable but it has great guns. The Omaha and Cleveland at tiers 5 and 6 respectively are also good ships. The Japanese cruisers tend to have slightly worse guns, but from tier 3 upwards they all have torpedoes, something only the Phoenix and Omaha have in the US line. The IJN Myoko at tier 7 is a pretty good ship.

Again generalising for battleships, the US tend to have shorter gun ranges but are more manoevrable. Both lines tend to be pretty poor at low tiers, suffering from long reload times and shot dispersion that would make a shotgun look like the tool of choice for a long range sniper. The reload times and dispersion don't get a whole lot better at higher tiers, but they do have more armour and better AA defences.

Haven't played much by way of carriers, as it is a whole different style of gameplay, so I'll let you work tht one out for yourself.

As for do's and don't's, if you are playing destroyers or cruisers fitted with torpedoes, make sure you know the range of your torpedoes. Lots of newbies make the mistake of launching torpedoes at targets that are outside their range. Also be aware of where your friendly ships are, as it's also very easy to launch a spread in to the path of a friendly, which doesn't make you very popular.

Thanks all. I was a little disapointed to see that there is no RN line as yet. I assume that, along with others will appear in time.

I wonder if they will be able to model in submarines....could be interesting.

Yeah, I looked in to the possibility of submarines. It's not going to happen, sadly!

The RN will be coming along with the Kriegsmarine and others. HMS Warspite is already in the game as a premium ship.

They will probably introduce the Soviet Navy first however even though they are mostly paper ships. Can't really fault them really, but you would think the largest navy in the world (at the time represented in the game)would have some sort of priority.

When you consider that the RN was the originator of much of the world's naval doctrines you would have thought so. Looking forward to the German line as well. I like the idea of commanding Seydlitz.

Incidentally, cannot seem to find the user preferences, the in game key assignments etc. Any ideas anyone?

Cog icon (very top left of your screen when in dock)>settings>controls

You can also get to it by hitting escape which also works in battle.

It's a Russian game, so I suppose we have to be thankful that the US and Japan are in it first. As well as the paper designs, the Soviet tree will likely have a fair few lend-lease and war reparation ships. Even the Gremyashy is a Russian/Italian design. If they're anything like Soviet tanks in WoT and the premium ships out now, they'll be OP. Because: Russia.

As of today's patch you may see some German ships in game. For developer testing only they've added the Hermelin (tier 1 cruiser), Dresden (tier 2 cruiser), Tirpitz & Bismarck (both tier 8 battleships). Interestingly, Tirpitz will get 6km range torpedoes as well.

Pics and info here: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/2...

Oh and they've added the “Hydro-acoustic Search” consumable to several cruisers: Kuma, Furutaka, Phoenix, Omaha, Murmansk & Marblehead. When this is selected, it'll allow the ship to detect torpedoes and enemy vessels further out, even if they're hiding in a smoke screen. The symbol looks like a pair of headphones. It lasts for 40 seconds and then takes 3 minutes to recharge.

Even more reason to avoid cruisers with a destroyer.

Brilliant, thanks for that. Cannot seem to get it to recognise my up/down/left/right cursor keys. Seems strange.

Cheese, i find that it forgets my mapping sometimes.

I have one of those fancy mice(mouses/mices/mousi') with buttons just over the thumb. So i've set one as the arty cam.

Thing forgets it every load up and ends up with me turning on sticky keys for the first few games before i get fed up and wrestle the settings again.

Wasn't the Tirpitz the sister ship of the Bismark? Seems strange to have a choice of two tier 8 battleships but maybe it's the start of the tech tress being padded out a bit.
