If you are into Arcade Machines and classic games check out:

http://www.arcade-club.com/

They have over 100 machines to play.

I went here too last week, got quite a few classics to play:

What is gamecity like? Going to be in notts in a few weeks time and was planning to go in but went past a week or so ago and looked fairly empty, on ground floor at least, with not too many exhibits apart from teenage mutant ninja turtles game.

Ground floor is a WIP I believe as is the basement. Around 5 arcade cabinets on the upper 3 floors, plus a few old consoles and older computers such as a Speccy 48k.

It's ok for an hour or so but there's not much that would make you go back.

Is that the one shown on "Collectorhollics" about a week ago on BBC2?

If so it was really interesting as was that chap who collected old mainframes.

I think their website was programmed on a 48k Spectrum, it's total garbage and doesn't give you a clue as to what they actually have to play with.

Doesn't sound like its worth the £8.50 entry fee - shame, I'm on holiday next week and live about 7 miles away and had never heard of it before. Was quite looking forward to going, but I'll perhaps give it a miss in that case

yes

I was quite the player back in the day, with a high score of 3.5 million, (clocked it 3 times), probably one of the best in the country in the early 80's.

That score took me around 9 hours and I got banned from the arcade, as the machine only made 10p that day. biggrin

I haven't played since 1986, so I've decided I'm going to Arcade Club on Saturday, to see if I can still play it.

Well I've just come back from Nottingham after going to gamecity and have to say both me and the wife who is a non gamer really enjoyed ourselves and spent about two and half hours in the place. Mrs paceman, donkey kong, virtua tennis, teenage mutant ninja turtles, pong, track and field, the original Xbox robot war game with the huge controller thingy (poss not real title name), minecraft, sonic games, mario games, a racing shooty game from a projector above and a track you could make yourself by putting obstacles down, plus a space game they have made themselves.

All for £8.50 each. I will be going back as will the wife.

The Boardwalk in Santa Cruz(the one in the Lost Boys)has a retro section in its arcade, it has 20-25 classic cabinets. I had to give up after a couple of hours with a sore index finger.

Went to Arcade Club a couple of weeks ago, and I really enjoyed the vibe as it was packed. Anyway, my first game of Defender since 1986 was awful, only got 37k but managed a high-score of 173k by the end of the night. Despite a hardware malfunction, when the reverse button kept on popping out, when I got a bit too enthusiastic. Didn't try many other machines but really had a great night and I'll definitely go back.
