Worth getting excited about, I'd say. I thought Advanced Warfare was an unlikely return to form for the series which had been looking pretty st after Ghosts. Black Ops II was amazing, but it seems like so long ago.

Rejoice, then, as Treyarch are back at the helm which means all the IW fanbois will be bhing, but we'll get a more characterful and fun shooter out of it. I'm glad to see current generation consoles are the only ones being supported here, as it was about time the old hardware was left to rot (and will this brave step have a knock on for other big titles like the next Destiny?). Looks fast, fun and fking fantastic.

I've already pre-ordered a copy though I must admit, the idea of beta access isn't what swayed me. I doubt I'll use it, as I love COD for it's super polished online experience. I've been to midnight launches for the last couple of COD games but I must admit, I can't be fking arsed this time. I'll have it on my doormat this this time, I think. Hopefully this will be enough to bring my brother back to the game, as he didn't bother with AW and I always enjoyed party gaming with him on COD.

Just six months to wait then, best get on with Bloodborne...

I watched my son play the beta version on PS4 last night. Graphics look smooth and the map I saw looked a little less basic than the ones on BO2. It looked more like advanced warfare than BO2 although I've not had a proper look at it. It features the silly jump around suits that spoil gameplay only this time they've added the even more naff walk on walls feature.

For now I'll stick with Ghosts online on my old PS3 and let him have the latest version.

It's like a slower version of advanced warfare.
Cancelled the pre-order on PS4 half an hour after trying it.

It's worth noting that as of this twitter post from Treyarch the beta is now free to download for all PS4 users, you don't need any code just download it from PSN store.

If it's anything like AW it'll be good. Titanfall lacked a bit of balance and the best thing a it was playing on foot, that was certainly more fun than piloting a Titan. I didn't think AW was spoiled for it's inclusion of jump packs, so I look forward to this. Indeed. AW was surprisingly good after the shockingly bad Ghosts.

I've given the beta a fair amount of play time... Its a skin job.. Safeguard is an alright play mode, but other than that it's core mode of operation is carbon clone, with pretty skins and graphics laid atop. There are some pretty brutal weapons out there - and a fair few pretty useless ones too. Sniper rifles are ok, but don't currently feel like they have an actual use. Often the ranges are far too short to effectively use them. Maybe some bigger maps would sort that out?

The series needs reinvigorating as i can see a lot of long term players giving it a miss because it offers nothing new.

£54.99 (Digital PS Store for standard edition) or £74.99 (Digital PS Store all in edition) for last years game with prettier graphics is ludicrous.

I'd be happy if it were released every two years or so to have more substantial front running ideas than "You know we said they could jump reaaaaallly high in AW? Now they can run on certain walls...". Also, 12 player matches? Is this 1995? Lazy programming chasing greed.

Seems to be par for the course that they just rejig them a bit.

They really need to go back to the original and Modern Warfare 2 and redo that feeling in a new game. Can you imagine how incredible those would be upped to next gen?

For me I'll play Modern Warfare 3 occasionally, but the ridiculously overpowered sniper rifles makes it a bit annoying.

Funnily enough that's what was said the other night between a few of us

Been saying it since before Ghosts (last one I bought), how awesome would a next gen version of the WWII game play or the original MW

I've now played the beta for a few hours and I don't completely hate it but I certainly don't love it.

I loved Ghosts and hated AW so I still play Ghosts most of the time with AW collecting dust. I'm seem to be pretty terrible at this but I am normally fairly good at COD games so maybe I just need more practice or maybe it's not going to suit me. I'm not yet decided on keeping or cancelling the pre-order, for now I'll leave it in place.

I think if COD doesn't get back to basics then I'll need to go find another online multiplayer FPS because they are going in a direction that doesn't suit me. Like others I want to go back in time not going futuristic with high tech jump suits and laser weapons. The only other FPS I've got on with was Battlefield but it was far from perfect and I haven't tried any of them since the first one as a result.

That about sums it up for me. Whilst it was nice to play something a bit more fast-paced after a year of Destiny, the "bells and whistles" were distracting- some of the special abilities were just Destiny rip-offs and naff anyway. A back to basics COD ala MW2 is what I want.

I'll probably keep the pre-order due to Zombies, but for PvP, they're going to have to sort the spawn points out. They are horrifically bad. frown

I really liked Titanfall getmecoat

Call of Duty got really stale for me by the time Ghosts was released - had a quick go on AW round at a mate's place and decided not to bother with it.

Played it for a couple of hours earlier, very same old same old, hating the HALO jumping off walls etc etc and the spawning is atrocious, definately appears to be yet another if your high ranked you'll win everything as you will have ALL the abilities, all the toys and stupid weapons. There was a guy level 48 creaming everything.

What is going on with the player movement in the last couple of COD games?

I used to play a lot of BOps, MW3, BOps2 but then had a break from it. I watched a demo for the latest Black Ops and was shocked to see players are flying through the air, running along walls, sliding around at 50 mph, etc. It looks like anyone could attack you from any perceivable direction so you can't plan strategic bottle necks and block routes off etc.

there are some points where you can run along walls and jump up certain heights. but its not many. you cant get onto a building for example (even thoguh you could jump that high). I've been playing safeguard with afew people and its still easy enough to spawn trap people like before.
