Bit of a thread resurrection, but in case anyone didn't know, this went Open Beta on 8th October. Just means anyone can play now without having to buy in to gain early access.

Great start and first impression :

According to the responses on the official forum about it : "your graphics card drivers are out of date, you need to update them!"

However, my GTX 780 drivers are just fine and running the latest version, so confused .

I haven't suffered any glitching fortunately. It runs with a decent FPS and ping too.

It's not bad. I'm up to the T-54, which is only a tier 2 in this game. It's not the speedy, OP tank from WoT, but more realistic.

There's a new patch out today.

They've increased the reputation points & credits for PvE games.

If you log in from today, you'll get a free T-62 tier 3 MBT:

As you can see, this is the first tank with camouflage. It's not a premium tank, just a regular one to commemorate Veterans / Armistice Day, so this offer is only running for the next week or so.

I have finally had some free time to play this tonight and I like it! hehe WOT just became a frustrating grind with very little enjoyment for me being bottom tier so often but this is a real breath of fresh air. I've not actually played a PVP game yet because at this ungodly hour there's very few people online and those that are online and sat in the tier 4 queue when I need a tier 1 or 2 game.

But the PVE game is good fun too, although rather predictable after a few games and the same couple of maps get repetitive, but it's a good way to "level up" with tanks, coins and reputation to unlock the equipment.

I've just unlocked the LAV-150 armoured fighting vehicle and bought some upgrades. This little thing is a lot of fun and does some serious damage if you can sneak round the side of the main battle tanks spin. I quite like the PT-76 tier 1 light tank too. I've unlocked the 2x tier 2 ones and a tier 3 one but not played them too much yet.

I like the 'side' project of upgrading your base and garage to increase XP earned and all sorts of other perks. It says you get 100 raw materials every day to do upgrades with but it gives you a crap ton right from the start so I've built and upgraded all my buildings to level 2 already spin.

I do like how you get the 6th sense perk built in automatically and don't have to grind it and I do like how you get a garage slot automatically when you buy a tank, rather than use hard cash/gold like you do in WOT unless you sell some others to free up slots.

Really enjoying thus far and I can't wait to get to tier 4 to try out the TDs and arty. getmecoat

Yes, to say it's just in open beta, it's pretty impressive. There was a patch a few days ago that added tier 9 tanks and a few other changes. I'm still up to tier 5, but I have a few of them now: Chieftain, T-72, Leopard, M60, Begleitpanzer, BMD-2, Fox. They need to work on wheeled vehicles as they're very jerky, over sensitive and hard to drive. Tracked vehicles are fine though.

With the garage slots being free, there's no real need to sell any tanks I find. The base upgrade thing is a nice idea. You'll get 100 per day, just for logging in. Plus they seem to give you 200 if there's a patch and they need to close the servers for a few hours.

I wasn't going to play arty at all, but it's worth it to unlock a couple of new commanders and some useful equipment upgrades. So I've got both of the tier 4 ones. Arty is much nicer to play that in WoT, especially when you get all the aim time upgrades. You can switch quickly enough to kill steal or get the first shot it more often than not.

The downside is that on most of the PvE maps it's pretty useless, as you'll be unsighted by refinery towers or tall buildings. Luckily you can see which map you'll be on in the rotation, so you can wait until an arty-friendly map comes up. Even on a good arty map, you'll struggle to do the damage of a MBT a tier below you. Plus, as you're unlikely to get any spotting bonuses, you won't earn as much reputation (XP) as a regular tank will.

The counter-battery thing is pretty good though. When arty fires the first time, other arty players / bots will see the map ping to give them a rough idea where you are. Keep firing without moving and you'll actually appear on the top down view as well. So, shoot and scoot is the order of the day until you've nailed them all.

I had 3 days of premium when I logged in yesterday which I don't know where it came from hehe. I'll be playing again shortly so I'll gladly take some more (I hope it stacks). I got my free T-54(?) Vet tank when I logged in too and I see on the forums that people are asking if you should sell it hehe. Clearly think they're playing WOT and haven't figured out that the garage slots are inifinite in AW.

Need to suss out how the commander thing works later as I understand you only ever use 2 and just keep ranking them up and moving them around as required. I'm just using whatever crews the tanks come with at the moment.

By the way, if you do the tutorial mission, do you still get the red smoke flare at the first point or has it changed now? When I did it again last night the red flare wasn't there. I wondered if it had been changed because of some people's graphics card issues (like I had in the pic in this thread).

How do you change the difficulty level in the PVE battles?

Only tier 3 and above vehicles can play medium PvE missions. Hard level missions are for tier 5 vehicles and above.

I'll redo the tutorial and get back to you on that.

You start with only 2 commanders you can use, but you can unlock others. There's one you can unlock for 100K credits, but he's not that good apparently, so don't bother. Both arties unlock extra commanders as do the Sheridan and LAV-300 which are all tier 4.

They all have slightly different skill sets that suit certain vehicles. So one might be better for missile-armed vehicles and another one better for tank destroyers and light tanks. Switching them is free.

The rest of the crew are unique to each vehicle and can't be moved to other ones. You unlock their first set of skills after just a few games. You can't pick a second set until they reach rank 4, which will take some doing.

How do you find out your rank? I don't see anything in the dossier tab. I've just bought and played the XM800T ARSV and set the commander for the 'take aim' skill but I can't do anything with the other ones. confused It's all a bit confusing as there doesn't seem to be any obvious indication of their progress.

Just hover the mouse pointer over the commander's picture on the garage screen and you'll see a pop up like this:

So I've unlocked 2 skills so far and I'm not far from the 3rd one.

Commanders get XP every game they play. You can increase this by upgrading the academy in your base. I think the most you can get is 10%, but mine is only at level 3, which gives 6%.

They've changed it to a blue double chevron (like a corporal's insignia) bouncing above the waypoints.

My commanders are rank 5 now, nearly rank 6. Bought and played the Dragoon 90 TD which I really like now it's fully upgraded. Played enough games and got enough credits for my first tier 4 which is the LAV-300 TD smile. I have the Swingfire unlocked too but need another 480k coins to buy that now as I've spent it on the LAV-300 instead hehe. I like the BMP-1 MBT as it punches hard for its tier and quite a fan of the XM800T AFV too.

Sticking with PVE for now til I get the hang of it but I like the progression of the game difficulty. Easy mode is exactly that and the game is over too quick but the medium difficulty missions are quite fun and you definitely need to duck back behind cover a lot to stay alive.

Yes, you really have to use cover to conserve your heath, just like WoT. It's even more important to keep checking the map too. At the moment, bots spawn in a predictable pattern and if you play a map enough, you can be ready for them. This will change in the next patch. In fact they're already testing this on the Tsunami map.

I took a broad approach and am playing all the tank lines. The LAV-300 is a good TD, but like all the wheeled vehicles, a bit of a pig to drive. You have to be more gentle with the steering or you'll be all over the place. It has a really nice gun on it.

Fast, canon-armed vehicles like the XM800T are fun are quite deadly. You can use that speed to get around and razer tanks to bits before slower conventional tanks can get there. As with WoT, the C key forces a reload. Essential for these sort of AFVs.

The Swingfire is kinda unique, as it doesn't have a gun at all. What it does have is a double anti-tank missile launcher that you can ripple fire after a couple of seconds delay. After you fire your two missiles, you need to back off and reload for about 13 seconds. The missiles are wire-guided, so you can steer them in flight. More than once I've fired at a target who someone else kills and been able to steer the missile onto another target. To aim them you have to have line of sight to the target. Apparently you used to be able to fire blind, but that was deemed too OP, so they changed it. Once I had a bot just the other side of the building from me. I could see him through the windows, so I fired and my missiles arced round and nailed him. Try doing that with a gun. It's actually quite lethal, although it's best to avoid maps with refineries as the pipes and towers can get in the way of the missile's arc.

BTW, there's a consumable for PvE mode only, that when activated, adds 30% of your health back and replenishes all your ammo. It's 12,000 credits a go, but often essential. I don't think many people know about this.

Yeah I know what the Swingfire does, I just need the coins.

Is it only you and me playing this? frown I ventured into a PVP game with my LAV-300 last night and it didn't end well hehe. First one was a tier 5 game on a map I've not seen before - looked like a tropical mountain island with smaller shallow islands dotted about (very nice to look at!) but I only got 2 shots in before I was wasted and 1 of those bounced frown. Other one was the Port map with the raised road in the middle and I got caught in the crossfire there and was dead within the first 2 mins hehe. I think I need to go back to basics and start PVP games at tier 1 where everyone else is a n00b and doesn't have a clue what they're doing.

I'm enjoying the PVE games at the moment. I like the Onyx map where destroying the last vehicle in time can be quite hard to do if you've got an idiot team and the one where you have to defend the museum (town map) is good fun too.

I'm only playing PVE for the moment at least. Too burnt out after WoT to face it to be honest. You don't get as many credits, but it's good enough to get to at least tier 5, even with a none-premium account. The free premium days are nice as I want to get my first tier 6. Probably the Leopard 2AV.

Plus PVE is very popular. Lots of moaning on the forums about the lack of people in PVP as a result.

I had a good game with the T-64 earlier on the Operation Perseus map where you have to defend 3 missile silos. My team died pretty quickly, so I had to defend the last silo on my own.

Quite a fight it was. My joint highest number of kills (with the tier 5 Begleitpanzer). Pity there's no replay system yet.
