The only rule is standard setup, but tbh we don't enforce that. Do whatever you need to enjoy it and stick around. There has been a bit of a lull tbh, a few weeks off. Tell your friends if you want, the more the merrier. It's just for fun so the only other rule is to keep a sense of humour for when Tron or Derwin's blitzes your time at the last minute lol

I have to say I'm starting to get somewhere in career mode and loving it. I just got into ginetta juniors, although I haven't raced them yet as I'm doing loads of invitationals. As long as it doesn't rain (because then it's stupid how quick the AI are) it really is a nice challenge, at 100% AI and session length it's limited to one event a night, with no chance of just walking it. I have found on most combos there is at least one corner you can gain half to a full second on the AI by being brave and keeping your foot in.

Tried the Vive at weekend on free practice, it's pretty amazing really. You can get so close to the apex and the driving just feels real. No motion sickness yet either. I have a feeling it might give me an advantage... apart from the piss poor resolution. Going down the straight at Imola after the first S section, you can't even see the left hand corner. And there are shimmering lines everywhere because of fences. I can't make out some of my usual braking points also. I only tried for an hour or so and have read that I can change some settings that will help so maybe it will get better. Having trouble with seat height too. So verdict so far is the driving is stunning, resolution/graphics/fiddling with settings not so.

Not sure my PC will stand racing in the Vive though. I tried to connect to an online race with approx 10 drivers and the game just crashed. So limited to TT and practice for now I think. And more testing needed.

The other room scale VR games are a hoot though and no graphical issues as they were designed for VR.

Oh and I think I have a dead pixel

Anyway, will try to set a time tonight on Watkins Glen unless somebody wants to update the combo...

Sounds like I need to wait for 2nd gen VR...the missus will be pleased that I'll get my money's worth out of my triples

I'm happy to let the combo carry on, it's a nice one.

Careful, you might have an accident like I did

Though if you're looking just for racing games, I'd consider waiting for 2nd gen like B2BS said. Don't get me wrong, it's great, but the rez is disappointing in PC. Maybe if someone comes out with a sim built specifically for Vive or Oculus the graphics/Rez won't be such an issue. Hopefully PC2 is being made with it in mind. I still need to do some tweaking so I might find a sweet spot and my gfx card is holding my options back somewhat.

Other games though it is superb. Downloaded The Lab tonight, and it is such good fun. Unlike Anything ive played before. Some of the stuff you can do is incredible.

Anyway, back to PC. I played for an hour tonight with the Vive and managed a 1:37:900 which I was quite happy with for first proper try. Forgot it Had KERS though, so glad we're keeping this combo for a while

Will update table tomorrow.

Don't let my lukewarm comments on Project Cars put anyone off VR though, the experience is something else despite the graphical issues. I just can't wait for the day it looks as good as on my monitor or TV, and I reckon that will be gen 2, maybe even later.

Is it a limitation of the headset or your gfx card? It's weird because live for speed is VR compatible and the gfx in that are 10yrs old and it shows.

My big concern is my eyesight is ste anyway. My contacts are -8 and -7 so without assistance I can't see past the end of my nose literally, unfortunately now I'm knocking on, with my contacts everything has to be arms length away for me to read it. I know there are different lenses, but my eyesight is a bit of an extreme case. I'm going to have to try before I buy.

I noticed that Scan have a HTC Vive available for demo, but you do have to contact them to book it: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/nda-htc-vive-virtu...
Might just go and have a play, as Scan are only 20 minutes from me.
However I suspect that it would be a similar scenario when I went for a Demo REVO remap on my old Cupra, you just couldn't walk away without it!

I think it's a bit of both. If my GFX card could handle higher AA settings and other candy, and keep VR framerate up it would be better as I expect there would be less shimmering fences. I still think the res is a limiting factor for looking into the distance regardless of how powerful a card is. There's a way to force something called super sampling that is supposed to make things better but it does take it's toll on the gfx card. I will give it a try.

As for eyesight issues, I think you're right, you probably should give it a try first! I played for an hour last night and although no motion sickness (apart from when reversing, which is odd), I did feel like I'd been through the ringer a bit afterwards. I would imagine at least a part of that is due to eye strain so perhaps it would be worse for you. Not sure really!

Get yourself down there. If they are demoing The Lab you will walk out £700 lighter though.
