It looks likely that an announcement for Dark Souls 3 is imminent.

The following video contains a number of screenshots purported to be from the game...

Very, very interesting stuff. Bring it on...

This will be awesome, hopefully. They really need to make the environment interwoven with shortcuts, passages and a lot of height, stacking areas on top of each other like Dark Souls, rather than the flat, linear and often pretty dull landscape of DS2.

Sounds like a good step. I wonder, in this Dark Souls, will there a 100% damage shield? I was extremely skeptical about Bloodborne's combat direction at first, it seemed like lunacy to do away with proper shields and to put so much stock in the instant-counter effect of the gun weapons. I know they say that the Dark Souls 3 Knight won't have the speed and grace of the Hunters from Bloodborne, but it definitely seems like a good idea to have more flexible, mobile combat rather than the usual chess-match.

Who is getting involved today then? Doubt I'm going to get a chance to play later, but I'm looking forward to diving in and getting lost.

I pre-ordered a couple of weeks ago, but then cancelled - I don't tend to play them that much during the summer so figured it would just sit on a shelf at home for 6 months!

Plus, I still haven't completed Bloodborne - it doesn't have the same atmosphere for me, so my playing of it has been a bit sporadic. Definitely looking forward to DS3, but will try to complete Bloodborne first.

I think I've died 22 times now, took 17 deaths until I defeated the first boss.

has anyone got a good way of keeping a death counter? (ps4) like an app for your phone or something on PC which you can tap to add a number for each time you die.

Howdee,

I managed to wait to the DAY AFTER launch to pick up my Ps4 copy. Played 2 hours so far. Managed to get the first boss to one hit to go on my first attempt and then beat him the second time.

One thing I did think was strange, when during character creation my character on the right was not changing based on the options I was manipulating. He just stood there (no ability to rotate him or zoon etc) and even as I changed his weight and shape of face etc, nothing changed. So I just made my theoretical changes and then submitted it and as the game started he was a heavy set older warrior.

Really liking the atmosphere and look of the castle. I have been playing with the sounds turned right up to get into the environment.

As for Bloodborne not having the atmosphere, I personally don't agree. Bloodborne and DLC are just great. Stick at them.

As for the chap working his way through the first game (assume you mean Dark Souls), stick at it. Very tough but rewarding.

Here are to more sleepless nights spent in despair as "YOU DIED.." appears on the screen over and over :-).

Cheers,
Steven RW

When I went to customize features i only noticed the difference when I moved the slider all the way to one side then preset reset/default, but it does make a difference. you could also rotate the camera and zoom in and out, I'm not sure why it wasn't workingg for you.

I tried everything. When you change the "weight" of your character, thin vs heavy is a massive change and it wasn't happening. I tried every control and every option and zero difference. I also tried every other button and lever to get the character to rotate and zoom.

The good news was the game worked spot on, so I got over it quite quickly :-).

I'm interested in discussing the game but everyone is at a different point and no spoilers is more important than talking it through!

Cheers

I'm mad about Dark Souls but I'm even crazier about Bloodborne. It is just better than the Dark Souls games I've played. Especially when played as a complete package with the DLC, it's easily the best game I've ever played.

I've got DS3 ready to start tomorrow night and I'm really looking forward to it. I've hit a wall in Salt and Sanctuary, a PS4 Dark Souls style platformer. Thanks to a balancing issue I can't beat a boss with the class I'm using and with respec options being so limited, I might just can it rather than starting again.

Baryonx: I agree. Bloodborne is a total masterpiece. The speed, the detailed environments, the atmosphere and so on. Just a fantastic game. I can rewalk through certain areas over and over and not tire of them. The area with the big pigs and the guys with snakes popping out of their head. What a great place. Dark Souls is ace, Dark Souls two also.. Bloodborne plus DLC is a masterpiece and I'm currently enjoying Dark Souls 3 but after killing the first kind of irrelevant boss, I have passed the next boss and working my way through the next location. It hasn't been "ridiculously hard" yet.

DS3 has taken some pointers from Bloodborne for sure.

Cheers

you've playe BB so surely it's nothing new? this is my first ever. as for the sheild, starting off as a knight gives you a sheild that's got 100% defense.

while I do find it hard - I died 13 times until I defeated the first boss - it felt great once I beat it. I think it's mainly getting used to the controlls.

DS3 is my first game of this type and I bought it on a whim after I saw it getting 90% on metacritic even though I generally dislike overly hard games.

The first tutorial level explains everything quite well. I too died around 10 times on the first boss. So far it was challenging but fair and never frustrating. Nowhere near as hard as the "myth" around this game series has led me to believe. Difficulty probably ramps up towards the end but so far I'm enjoying it.

to me it feels much like Devil May Cry on PS2. Similar mechanics, only DMC has a fixed camera.

Can't see it myself, devil may cry is a hack and slash game about building up huge combos, always being on the attack and you're rail-roaded along the path until the end. This is all about realistic combat with an emphasis on defensive strategy, where you have to consider the momentum from each strike and conserve your stamina. Plus you'll often have to spend time working out where to go next.

I started this morning. Had Gundyr at about 5% on my first go and wiped the floor with him the next time! They won't all be that easy.

I've just went up the lift that connects the courtyard with all the slaughtered soldiers back to the first Lothric bonfire.

Quick thoughts:

1) Dark Souls is back! Proper level design, challenging enemies and lots of tension. The world feels dangerous again which is nice. The game constantly plays tricks and surprises are plentiful. It's a huge departure (so far) from the flat, sedate feeling of DS2.

2) combat has been subtly tweaked. I note you can no longer strike enemies, even NPC's, during ladder climbing animations! Otherwise, the fighting feels quicker and sharper with better hit boxes than DS2. It doesn't have the violent fluidity of BB but then it wasn't meant to.

3) It's nice to see death doesn't condemn you to being a mouldy old hollow. It makes crafting the character's face worthwhile.
