They use LOADS of Narco berries.
try to keep the bar about 80-90%
Each different species of herbivores prefer different berries
Best way to find out what they like is put 1 stack of each type in and see what they eat first, that will make the taming effectiveness higher

Mejo is the right berry for a trike.

As above, you need lots of narco. If it comes down to it you'll have to start punching it to keep it unconscious hehe

I quite like the trikes, extreeeeemely slow but their knock back is super handy plus they'll farm all the narco you could ever need.

OK the trike woke up so I've left it for now. Got a dilo instead, knocked it out. Gave him 8 raw meat and the effectiveness bar took a nose dive down to 50%. So I gave him a narco which he didn't eat and the effectiveness dropped to 35% and continued to drop til he woke up. What am I doing wrong? It says on the wiki that you should only give them enough narco to keep them unconscious, not give them loads in their inventory otherwise it has opposite effect. Getting annoyed now as the meat keeps going off. grumpy

Ah, so what you need to do is put the narco in their inventory and then click on it. Once you do you'll be given the option to 'Remote use'. You have to manually feed the narco to keep them unconscious

Yeah you do
Just don't use loads at once as it lowers the effectiveness

This wiki has a list of dinos and what they like in the taming section:

That's the bible for this game smile

Loads of new dino's added each update too.
Final release should be great.
With every update they optimise it more and more too.
We've got quite a nice collection of dino's now.
couple of T-rex and a steg'

OK I see. I'll give that another go later. I've seen other players on YT split the food to stop it spoiling. How do you do that? When I try to split a stack in a chest and place it in another slot it just regroups again.

Doesn't splitting stacks make it spoil quicker as you do this with meat to get it to spoil for narcotic making?

Yes, but it regroups again when you place it in another slot.

Atlast the servers are patching! Roll on the stone update sometime this week!

We just picked one of the EU PVE servers so far good fun! 1 person gone silly and place sleeping bags everywhere bagging (sorry for pun) all the good areas!

Aye, as it is a 24/7 game the current design makes pvp too dangerous if logging off for work!

On PvP servers as soon as you log out people just loot your body then hack it up.

Really starting to find this game annoying now. I am at south spawn 1 which I'm lead to believe is the easiest place to start with a reasonable amount of 'easy' dinos to kill and tame like the dilos and ducks and turtles. I've knocked out countless dilos for taming but then trying to find another dino with low enough level to take out for the raw meat always means running into one with about 27 levels which are impossible to take out with the slingshot unless you have 200 stones. The dinos with low enough levels to take out easily come and go occasionally, but then there's never a dilo or anything else in sight to knock out and start taming. I must've wasted 100s of meat on dilos now only for them to wake up and then you have to restart the process. The raw meat going off so quickly makes the game unnecessary difficult when you're just starting out.

The game is annoyingly buggy too. Had a level 1 trike stuck between 2 trees which made it easy for me knock out and start taming it, but as soon as I knocked it out (not killed it, it was still very much alive) it just suddenly disappeared! I don't mean the fading out disappear that they do when you've killed them, it just instantly vanished.

For easy meat you can wade into the water and take out the smaller fish. Personally, I'd spend time getting basic tools, gathering berries and thatch and wood. Make a thatch house at one of the spawns and level up making powders etc.

I've only used the slingshot once, it felt useless. Make your way to the white and green drops once level 15 and you'll end up with a bow and some tranq arrows which is the easiest way to start your tame.

Save your rotten meat, engram the mortar and pestal (spelling?) and start making narcotics.

Once you hit level 15-20 everything gets alot easier if you're playing on your own

I didn't realise there were fish in the game! All I see are the sharks and crocs. Never seen any fish when wading in to replenish water. I have plenty of hatchets and picks and all the other stuff you mention which is stored in boxes in my thatch shack. The slingshot is absolutely fine and much easier than the spear. I've noticed in most game play videos that the players don't enable the crosshair for it in the settings. Once you do that it works great in 1st person mode.

This game started off fun enough, but I'm getting really fed up of the fact that your body just lies in place whenever you log off. Several times now I've logged off for the night, come back the following evening to boot it up and find I'm dead, and upon returning to my base I've found someone has bashed their way in, killed me and my mate and stolen everything.

Quite often I'm seeing in sidechat people complaining that someone has broken into their base, killed their tamed dinos and just generally griefed. Considering the amount of time it takes to build a base and tame dinos, to have it all whipped away from you like that is infuriating.
