The single thing that has turned me off almost every FPS I've bought in the last decade plus is the inability to save at will in single player.

If Doom lets me do this, I'll buy it. smile

Loved Doom, Doom2 not really a fan of Doom 3. Loved Quake, Quake 2 and was quite the master on Quake 3 arena. Also loved the others around that era with my favourite being Blood. Blood 2 was crap with its who cares story.
All I want to do is pick up a game and kill things and thats what I liked about the older gaming. No story, no long cut scenes just pick up a gun and slog through the dead.

In the meantime there is brutal doom with is very good and fills that need.

Hopefully this will pick up from the original fanbase and I see from other videos that you will be able to make your own customised levels so like the old days once you have finished Doom4 you can have endless fun playing other peoples.

One question: Will it work on a 386 with 4mb of ram and soundblaster card? I can remember turning down the resolution and making the screen smaller just to play it. biggrin

Those words: Init DOOM refresh Daemon..... Still no idea what it meant but sounded cool.

Thanks. Self-build sounds fun, but messing around with thermal grease (and getting it wrong) always put me off!

Great times; "Doom" was the dawn of the LAN party: filling a room with 10 PCs (with hefty CRTs).

These days with heat-spreaders on the CPUs, you just put a small blob or line on it and then bolt on the heatsink. No more of that spreading it thinly with the edge of an old credit card nonsense.

Or, so long as you arent overclocking, stick with the stock heatsink/fan which has it pre-applied

My main reason to use a different heatsink has generally been noise level. If the standard one isn't too noisy, then just go with it.

...I'm not disturbed by the new Doom ,because the victims are very obviously demons, not people. I wouldn't think this level of gore appropriate in Far Cry, but, for me, it's fine in Doom.
Entirely reasonable statement and one I agree with.

Reality check needed for some people.

They are humanoid, they seem to bleed like people, scream like people, even cover their faces from attack like people. Do they need to wear trousers and a jumper before you consider it too real?

They are demons. There is not possibility of confusing them with human beings. I take it you haven't played Fallout 3 or Skyrim.

No, Doom 4 and its promotional video is the topic of relevance here.

Interesting.

Just watch a couple of episodes of BANSHEE the tv series. Nasty torture and beatings and stabbings, eye burnings with cigars etc. I presume you are persuing a campaign to have that removed from the airways too? It's nasty people doing nasty things.

This is a computer game that is quite obviously not related reality, though I do appreciate your opinion differs and it obviously is very much like reality.

Was that a Baron or a Cyberdemon at the end? That really looked like a modern take on Doom, proper Doom.

Please use the old Doom music!

Probably a Baron, not giving too much away.

Go to the steam page I linked above and watch the 2nd video, you can hear the old doom music.
