Am I the only one who does not read reviews on games I want to buy. if they look good I buy them. if not I don't.

But I do play the demo or Beta first.

Well just finished downloading it, and am going to give it a go. I'll post some thoughts later if I can.

Early access for the price for a coffee.

Thoroughly enjoying it so far, there are a few annoyances that will hopefully be addressed in patches - mainly the lack of a quick save in priority missions - this is acknowledged by bioware and something they will hopefully patch in. God knows why they made that decision.

Games does run smoothly but it is demanding.looks incredible though, have to say. Combat is a hoot, especially with the jet jump. No wybincna go back to the original trilogy, the movement (including using it to traverse) is a real step up.

Some of the ui is also a bit fiddly, but nothing game breaking.

Character creator is limited though, but you can get decent results. My Sara:

Finished my 10 hours last night.

I think the best description of it could be that it's a next gen Mass Effect game simply.

I'm not overly enamoured with the setting and Ryder Twins but I can't even remember how I felt about Shep for the first 10 hours of the first ME and in terms of setting they'd backed themselves into such a corner with the original trilogy that it couldn't stay in the Milky Way.

The way you become 'special' is a bit cliche.

Combat is great, a bit more arcadey than before but combos are much easier to prime and detonate so you tend not to notice that you can't tell squadmates to use certain powers.

There's a tremendous amount of depth with the crafting, R&D, Strike Teams etc.

It's also a bit more upbeat than an unwinnable war against an unbeatable enemy. Feels a bit less mature.

Another minor annoyance, I got to a point where I had to learn Sudoku to progress the story FFS.

I thought this was an interesting poll on BSN asking for reviews from those who have played the 10 hour preview; http://bsn.boards.net/thread/5189/early-accessers-...

I don't really agree with 95% mind but I think 80-85% would be about right.

Kids allowing I'm going to have another few hours tonight and I'll feed back then.
I literally just finished the main prologue (took about 2 hours i guess) and only died once on normal diffculty (and only died then because I was too busy looking at the scenery).

Hopefully get into more of the talking stuff tonight and see what all the comments about bland dialogue are.

The firestorm about this game has been ridiculous and a lot of the youtubers and 'edgey' review sites seem to have jumped on the bandwagon. I can understand it given the ending to ME3 and how it was handled at the time (by just extending it!) but if this was a Fallout game would such a fuss be made about facial animations or a few minor bugs at release?

Andromeda may well have some serious issues but (like with ME3) we might not know until we've had way more than 10 hours on it.

OK another few hours tonight. Finally got my ship.

Negatives:
- having really inconsistent performance issues. Seemingly innocuous cutscenes lag, really complicated stuff doesn't. And it is never consistent, I can go through the same areas and sometimes have no trouble, and sometimes have lag. Really weird - I expect that some new nvidia drivers will help, plus some performance patches
- Some of the voices are a bit annoying, but that's a personal preference
- the whole upgrade / research stuff is confusing, I expect to get used to it but there is really not enough ingame information to help
- planet scanning is back and it's a bit.. meh. But then it has always been meh, so I am not surprised
- Some of the environments on the nexus are just really sterile and washed out. I think it is the flat white lighting used

Positives:
- There's a lot of voice acting and dialogue. Pretty much everything is, and for the most part it is good
- The game can look incredible at times, even the galaxy map
- The female Turian squadmate is excellent, I can see her being a real favourite
- The jumpjet never gets old. Ever
- I like the new power upgrade system, you get a lot of choice on how to develop your character
- The way side missions are introduced feels fairly organic and un-intrusive (unlike ME3's weird listening in on people)

If they improve the inconsistent performance then I will be a lot happier with it, but overall I am pleased. It's not shaking any trees at the moment, but neither is it as terrible as the Internet seems to think.

Plus I am warming to my Ryder, which always bodes well.

Yep, still looks st. And it's pretty much a flop by most accounts. I have also saved £40.

But it isn't 'st' though. It's not the greatest thing ever but it certainly isn't st.
That's the problem nowadays, it's either 10/10 or 0/10.

A bit confused, which part of the game screams out "it's st"?

They are like nested folders, a bit like a file tree.
Not the worst but not the best. In fact most of the journal etc seems to operate like that, you have a top-level of folders then subset within each.
It's different. Not used it enough yet to know how irritating it is.
Oh and the scanning isn't really like me2, it's just a single click once you have zoomed into the planet. Takes about 20s I reckon including the travel cinematic.

- No pause menu..... really confused about why or what it would have cost to include it.
- No passive/auto saving in the same manor and you can't save if you're anywhere near combat. I died last night and it brought me back about 20 minutes. In ME3 it would auto save a lot more.
That is dissapointing.

Yes. At the moment not during the 'main' mission - they acknowledge this is stupid an die think they will fix it.
A simple workaround is just to choose a side quest as your active quest and then you can save. Annoying but that's it.

So it sounds like the best idea is to sit and wait for this game to get all its dlc, patches/fixes and get it then...Possibly when on sale.

Its what I did with the other ME games and it gave a great experience. Instead of playing a buggy, content lacking game and then replaying it months later with all the dlc and fixes in place.

A great experience first time.

The menu system does take some getting used to to be honest but I wouldn't have registered it as a negative, it's just different to other games.

The scanning is slightly different and entirely optional and the new Mako is actually decent.

You won't regret getting Andromeda if you enjoyed the original trilogy, at all. There are some minor gripes at present but nothing earth shatteringly bad..... yet the most common score on Metacritic is 0! Just look at any comments on any youtube videos for it, it's trolled more than any game I've seen.

I was desperate for this game.

Mass effect was the last bastion of original good sci fi gaming. It had depth in it's world lore and characters and thanks to importing my character through all 3, i felt very immersed in the story.

I read through the reviews and was willing to give the crap animations an ignore as, well, bioware.

I have drawn the line at buying because of these 2 things:

See, i just don't by that excuse, this all smells fabricated. There are no software limitations for light skin that is such bull.

On further reading i find this guy who was working on the team and he is just a lovely lovey guy

(http://twitpic.com/acssbi here if you want the original)

You might think im some card carrying racist with an issue against our brown friend here. However, it's not me who's the racist and i will not be paying 40 quid to a company that gave this horrible scumbag a paid job.

https://heatst.com/culture-wars/mass-effect-design... Here is plenty more meat if you're not convinced there was some form of agenda in having this prick working there.

What a shame, a game that i was so deeply looking forward too, hoping that Sci-fi was still an untouched gem and decent place for a bit of thrilling escapism.

If you really think there is an 'anti-white' agenda then you are insane.

Manveer was a contractor working on the MP aspect of the game who left ages ago.
If you think that one employees view represents an entire company, then I'm sure your bosses would love to read your posts, as obviously you represent the entire view of that company.

You are no better than the people putting 0 on metacritic because there's too many gays in the game.

You'll note my Sara above- is she not White enough for you?

That's ridiculous, both of the template Ryders are white.

They just employed an idiot for a time, I'm pretty sure most businesses have one.
