Thanks for all the responses.
I'm buying a Commodore Amiga.
What about an Atari ST?I'm buying a Commodore Amiga.
The ST just never caught on like the Amiga unfortunately.
God I long for the days of Cannon Fodder, North and South, SWOS, Lemmings, Test Drive, Indy 500, games in big cardboard boxes, the excitement of original content and something being amazing when it got a 90% review which was actually rare

You're talking about the "golden age" of invention and creation there. The ST just never caught on like the Amiga unfortunately.

Games companies had a ton of ideas to mine from - almost everything published hadn't been done before or had been done badly. So anyone who married together a good concept + good gameplay was onto a winner - Eye of the Beholder, Ultima, SWOS, Crammond's F1, Elite, Populous, Chaos Engine were all stellar titles on Amiga.
In terms of game concept it's not really moved on very far from there though - just refining the same basic concepts ( 3d worlds, RPG, godsim, driving sim, platform shooter ) there seems to be a dearth of innovation today. Granted the concepts have been polished brilliantly!!
Maybe Oculus and the like will trigger a new wave of invention and engagement?
