Just a passing thought while looking around on GAME website earlier.

Is anyone else still underwhelmed by the games available for PS4/XB1?

Ive had PS1/2/3/4 all on release day as well as XB/360. I realise that it usually takes a few months for the devs to get to grips with the new tech available, which is fair enough. I just can't help feeling that this hasn't happened with PS4, and it is usually just set under the TV, on standby, very rarely getting used lately. I don't feel that there is the range of games that there used to be, I had hundreds of games on PSone and a good old stack for the 2/3, yet I've got 3 discs for PS4 and only a handful of downloaded games. Its not that I'm not as interested in gaming as i used to be either, ill happily sit on GTA V or BF4 for hours on end, but after a few days/couple of weeks i just can't sit and play the same games constantly.

No doubt others will think I'm wrong, but I can't be on my own in thinking this, surely?

No doubt they have capability but the games are no more advanced than previous generation really.

No exciting titles coming out and all a bit samey. Might change when they bring out more Cod Zombies, GTA or driving games worth playing other than forza which is pretty good.

The online graphics for battlefield astonish me - I still die as I look at the sun shining through trees etc..

If that F1 game I have seen advertised is the actual gameplay, that will be incredible. The Last of Us also has impressive graphics.

I am expecting great things from Fallout 4 too.

There are far more interesting games on the PC in my opinion; not necessarily with all the shiny whizz bang graphics but more focussed on novel game play.

My PS3 has been playing up and I keep thinking it would be a good excuse to upgrade then I look at the scant titles available and there aren't any that make the £200 jump (over a slim PS3) seem worthwhile.

The Last of Us. Far Cry 4. Battlefield 4...

Ill give you that. Battlefield 4 does look incredible, and it is far and away my favourite game. (Whats your PSN? Chances are I probably play with you quite often TBH.)

F1 graphics are impressive, but they were impressive on each of the previous consoles, its just polished up every year so I just can't get 'excited' about it.

Last of Us was pretty impressive, but it is in reality just a polished PS3 game.

I loved my consoles but didn't rush out to buy the latest ones.I did pick up a 2nd hand Xbone in the end but only have two games on it (Forza and one of those UFC titles).Haven't turned it on for a few months as I went back to PC gaming.

So many of the titles were 30fps or not as pretty and after a PC upgrade and playing almost everything in 4K at 60 fps +, the consoles just feel like a huge step backwards.I even have it wired to a 4k monitor and a 50" 4K TV and amp, so it's not like the console wins that battle, either.

I may pick up a boxing game on the MS machine as and when a new one comes out as the PC really sucks in that department.

Witcher 3 is a truely next gen experience, check it out, especially if you like Fallout style RPGs it is immense.

Battlefield
Project Cars
Bloodborne

No complaints here...

I just get sick of the number of big updates the Xbox needs almost every other time I play it. Couple that with the fact that everything seems to be released as a beta. Some of the games are stunning but with holes everywhere. Not what I expected but we are here now and hopefully these things should iron themselves out. Kinect for the Xbox seems pretty useless as theres not much its being used for.

As I said above, no complaints about Battlefield at all.

However, after all the hype, and the build up, and 'look at this, look at this' and the continuous delays. I think Project Cars is quite frankly st. I had it preordered from day 1, when it was announced and was pretty excited about it TBH, but after being delayed for so long and still being pretty buggy after all the 'no were pushing it back to give you the best game possible with no bugs' bullst I traded it in after a couple of weeks and went back to Forza. This is all IMO of course, but tbh, 10/10 for effort. 5/10 for execution.

All 3 are also available for the PS3 which is the original point I was making. There are a few PS4 exclusives that get good reviews, but so far the only thing standing out for me is Killzone Shadow Fall only because I enjoyed the previous ones. Not sure if the latest is good enough to be worth getting a £300 console though. Will wait to see if anything new falls into the "must have" category.

Hmmm Forza. Not sure a sim style game like P Cars is ever going to appeal if you like that style of car game.

I'll forgive a huge number of bugs when the handling model is how it is in P Cars, especially as these bugs get ironed out over time.

Think you may have a point.

I also like being able to use road cars, too. In fact i don't think I've ever even used one of the race cars, ever, on any Forza. hehe

Alien Isolation. Yes I'm sure it is fun on the ps3 but I really liked it on ps4.
GTA 5. Definitely better on the Ps4 with just more "stuff" going on
Bloodborne. Masterpiece of a game. My first experience with dark souls style games or worlds. Loved it.
Dying Light. Good environment to wander around in

I've sold off dragon inquisition, far cry 4 and lots of others as I didn't really get into them. Shadow of Mordor is good fun and I like the clever boss rating/rank system. Very clever.

I do spend more time playing my Ps3 and all the classics that I missed when they were released but the Ps4 has it's place.

If tight on funds at all, I'd stick with a Ps3 and play all the old best titles that you missed.

Cheers

Looking through my Xbone played games, the games I've thought have looked spectacular or done something previous gen couldn't do are...

Dead Rising 3 - sheer number of enemies on screen was pretty 'next gen'
Diablo 3 - 4 player local coop is spectacular
Witcher 3 - the scale and presentation of it is just awesome
Forza 5 - very good to look at

GTA V, Battlefield 4 and Titanfall are all excellent looking but I never played their previous gen versions to have an idea of how much they are improved for this gen.

Agreed, I don’t play my XB One much but fancied a game of Titanfall at the weekend – firstly it needed a 2GB system update, then Titanfall needed a 3GB update, then I had to download 2 map packs – 2GB each. Insane. Lucky I have BT Infinity.

The range of games will improve, we are still in the transition phase between generations. I think it’s taking longer than the previous generation due to the additional development time required for latest gen games. By next year I reckon we’ll see a lot more quality titles.

Is there no auto-update mode so it does it whilst in standby?

I'm happy with the Xbone but not blown away. I think the previous gen had a good few years left in them yet. It's not like the graphics were rubbish!
Why can't we use the old controllers though? Xbone is fine but the old 360 controller feels indestructible!
Can't wait to be able to fire up the old 360 games when the compatibilty kicks in. I like a blast through of some old faves every now and then. BioShock, Half-life, Singularity, Bulletstorm etc.

There is for system updates, not sure about game updates/ map packs. But I don't like leaving it on standby when it might go unused for 2 or 3 months at a time.
