YouTube videos of games done quick.

Amazing watching people playing Doom in less than 31 minutes. Old Duke Nukem in 15 minutes and other classic games like Quake, Quake II done in less than half an hour.

But I think the most amazing ones to watch are Half Life and Half Life 2 by "abusing" the games engine by finding clips, short cuts and other tricks.

The biannual event "Games Done Quick" (Summer or Awesome) is currently on this week, live streaming of top players for a week whilst raising money for charity:

And there's speedrunslive.com for people's live streaming attempts at speed runs of all sorts of games.

Halo has a whole speed running forum. If you've played the first games you'd know how hard it is, but using a few awesome glitches and map tricks, these guys make it look comically easy. Well worth a watch.

These guys are nuts and explain the tricks as they do them.

Yeah I went through a phase of watching these a few months ago; also been watching a lot of retro-reviews - modern reviews of games from the 90s and 00s which pretty much defined my gaming childhood. Also started watching Let's Play videos; I've no idea why I find them so interesting; I guess it's hearing other people's experiences of playing games I love.

Well thanks for wasting my afternoon. These are strangely fun to watch. Enjoyed the Halo 1 one.

SpeedRuns all the way. Amazing to see what people can do.

Dark Souls was beating me badly (though I eventually got there). Some guy just runs in and completes the ENTIRE GAME in 1:17 or so (time might be slightly wrong). Two hitting the main bosses etc.

Unreal.

Then you get to the exploits like the ones used by the guys who do GoldenEye and Half Life etc.

I'm always watching people play through ZX spectrum games from my youth that I had ZERO ability to complete myself :-).

I was watching one the other day and some guy worked out how to escape the starting bunker in Fallout 3 while he was still a baby.
