Why aren't more games turned into movies?
Discussion
The problem is that Games and movies aren't compatible. In movies the narrative is a closed linear thing that has a strictly defined start and end whereas in games you are encouraged to take charge of the narrative and tell your own stories.
As games get bigger and graphics get better the movie adaptation is becoming less and less relevant.

I want a Halo film made, the short clips that have been made prove that it's possible, so they just need to extend it. It has such potential not to be st but I guess it would depend on who directed it.
Not played many Halo games but, must admit, when I saw the advert for the latest game you can see the potential.Alan Wake could work well perhaps? Story-focused game but pretty linear...

http://www.hollywood.com/movies/peter-jackson-expl...Halo so nearly happened. From it District 9 was born, given how much I enjoyed that I'm sure the director would have done a good job with Halo.
ETA - oops, should read whole thread.
Alan Wake would be cool. The creators of that are launching Quantum Break next year which will have an accompanying tv show if I understand it correctly.
The Witcher could be interesting but it would need a pretty enormous budget and I'm not sure 150 minutes would be enough.
Here is a list of all video games that have been made into movies (almost 30 in total - with a few coming up in the next year or so).

The highest rotten tomato rating any of them got was 44% (Final Fantasy) - and almost 2/3rds of them scored less than 20%.

Been playing AC Unity lately and it has got me thinking about what a good movie this series of games would make. Others that immediately spring to mind are Mass Effect and, of course, The Last of Us.
Assassin's Creed and The Last of Us are both marked to be made into movies. In fact, I believe Michael Fassbender has already been cast for the AC movie...Don't get too excitied though, an AC film will bear no resemblance to the games.

Incidentally, what games would you like to see turned into a movie?
As others have said, Mass Effect would be awesome but it would be very difficult to pull off. It's one of those games that is really made by the users actions.I'd like a Bioshock film, based on Rapture. Also a Mechwarrior film, just to satisfy my lust for giant fighting robots!
