I've just brought "the evil within" and already it's asking me to download 4 GB worth of updates! Does anyone else think that most games these days take the piss when it comes to downloading patches? I know it allows new features and bug fixes to be implemented but some of the size of the updates do seem excessive. Driveclub is weighing in at 12 GB!

Yes I agree though in part will be down to the high res textures and graphics used nowadays. 12gb does seem big but is that the update or the full game?

I made the same point when I popped Destiny into my ps4 for the first time, all I wanted to do was play it but was forced into all sorts of downloads.

Massively frustrating when all you want to do is play.

That's for the updates. I've nothing against updates but just not at multiple GBs. Most of the time I just delete the downloads before they start downloading as I don't think most of them are worth it and because I don't have PSN subscription. The only game I think would change my mind for would be Gran Tursimo 7, although I dread to think of the frequency and size of the patches.

I recently downloaded the free Tomb Raider which comes with this month's PSN+. Ordered it through PSN while I was at work and it just sorted itself out before I got home. Digital downloads should be the future, but I wouldn't buy something that way; you can't trade it in, you can't lend it to a friend, you can't shop around for the best price. If there are 4GB updates to download immediately, it's a shame simply downloading the game isn't the best option.

By the way. Does anyone know how to turn off automatic game updates?

Generally the PS4 will allow you to start playing whilst it updates?

My internet is sometimes slow due to other people on at the same time. Plus I'm sure if I download a lot of data my connection slows down as well.

Consoles these days seem to offer no more than a gaming PC. I find the download speed on the consoles to be ridiculously slow. My wife and I picked up the boarderlands collection on the PS4, it had a 2gb patch that took an hour and a half to download. Our PC's would have done that in around 15 min.

I find this annoying too. I'm now just resigned to setting the download off when getting a new game & doing something else for a couple of hours.

To be fair, you've bought a fairly old game, it's going to have had updates in its time, maybe DLC etc.

I agree with Day One patches, but not at this point, that's just how games are. Besides, the game will most likely be far better than at launch, hence needing updates.

Well if you follow the GT6 method you'll maybe get an update once a month for 6 months then every 2 months and I believe we're at 3-4months since the last update and still don't have a completed game with what was advertised on the box.
