Didn’t know there was a Star Citizen thread on Pistonheads, typical of all the other Star Citizen threads elsewhere where it turns sour with a few trolls. The strange thing about this lawsuit is that the original contract between the 2 companies, both lawyers that wrote up the contract from Crytek’s side are now CIG employees, including 1 of the founding members of CIG and seeing that 1 of them specialises in copyright law, they’ve got to be confident they’d win?
I've found where all the money has gone, into this trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VppjX4to9s4
Just the trailer.
Just the trailer.

I hope they can produce something, I loved the Wing Commander series. Although saying that, after seeing the trailer I’m now wishing they’d produced a film Just the trailer.

I saw this last night. Pretty, but quite lacklustre performances and no real excitement or build up.
Lots of big name mo-cap.
Was there an actual game in there somewhere because I think I missed it? It just looks like the kind of thing you do when you've got too much money and creating an actual game is too hard.Lots of big name mo-cap.
Still in alpha stage.
"In January 2017, when asked about the financial situation of Star Citizen, Chris Roberts said: "I’m not worried, because even if no money came in, we would have sufficient funds to complete Squadron 42"
Squadron 42 being the single player campaign, modern take on Wing Commander. The kind of thing Ubisoft or Activision churn out on a yearly basis. Which just like those have lots of pretty uncontrollable cut scenes and formulaic action in between.
As for Star Citizen itself it doesn't seem to be looking like something you can't jump into after work and get some action done before needing to go to bed.
"So what did you do this evening dear"
"Oh I spent ages walking around the city to find someone I needed to speak to and they gave me a task to do on the other side of the city and I had to take the train over there"
"Then what?"

To be fair it sounds a lot like my last evening with ED: dangerous. As I haven't played it for awhile the last update lost all my Thrustmaster settings so I spent 45 mins getting things back to how I like them - flew to a more populated system than I had left my Asp in and then it was time to go to bed "In January 2017, when asked about the financial situation of Star Citizen, Chris Roberts said: "I’m not worried, because even if no money came in, we would have sufficient funds to complete Squadron 42"

That video is interesting.
Did I hear him correctly, you can buy a pretend spaceship for and unfinished game for $300 - $800 in real money?
Makes horse armour look like a bargain!
You can buy a special pack of all the spaceships which I think is 25 grand.Did I hear him correctly, you can buy a pretend spaceship for and unfinished game for $300 - $800 in real money?

There's a fine line between immersion, detail and fun. All the videos they show of unloading cargo from the cargo bay, and carrying it across to a base to sell, or running through a busy starport, requesting your ship, then running to dock to open the door, get into the ship, before flying away..."Then what?"

It looks great on screen. It's probably good the first time, maybe the second. But after that, you just want to "get on with it" and get to the fun parts. Lots of what they seem to be concentrating on is stuff that's 'busy work' and detracts from the core, fun elements of the game...but looks impressively detailed in trailers.
It's a bit like the RPG's where you have to walk miles across the land to get to your quest objective. It's fun the first time, taking the sights. But after that, you just want to fast-travel there and get it done.

Depends what you class as a game I guess. I mean you can load up a billion km across space map with a few moons and fly most of those ships around with up to 50 other players. No game to play them in though.
Some would say that is a game...others would say its a tech demo. Either way its a very early version of something.

I was on a course in NL last year, and the guy running the course was a big fan of this. He had a friend who had sunk a few thousand Euro into this game for all the pretty ships and tried to justify this to us while ranting about people calling the game 'vapourware'. He then went on to tell us that this friend had cancer treatment to pay for and that he was trying to sell his 'ships' on to anyone that would buy them to fund this treatment. Very sad, and decidedly odd.No game to play them in though.
So I don't know if anyone still follows this....erm, "epic" development process - but they've now shown a roadmap that places the Beta for mid-2020 and I'll be amazed if they get near that given all the other delays, more like 2021.
Bear in mind that's only for Sq42, not the other multiplayer aspect. It's insane, I wouldn't be surprised if it's more like 2022/2023 before you see both games finalised - if that's even possible - nearly a decade after it was announced. All that being said, the money still keeps flooding in from people buying ships that don't exist; if you look at discussions, the amount of people who've invested 4-figure sums into digital assets is craaazy.
Also, Crytek lost their lawsuit, and Derek Smart is still doing everything in his power to undermine and slate the development....
