I’m more shocked that people still try to play SC, never mind pay for it too.

Obsidianant on the latest SC news.

You'll be shocked to learn it's another delay.

I'll not be shocked if SC pulls more millions this year.
The most shocking thing for me in that video is that 600,000 NEW players paid money for games in 2022!
I had assumed it was early access people throwing money at it still.

Apparently when server meshing is done the wipes will stop. I backed on day 1 of the kickstarter and although I am frustrated that it isn't what we orginally pledged for I am amazed by the vision and detail the game has.

They shot them selves in the foot by allowing all the early access so soon it really slowed down development and still does as they need to ensure its polished before it goes live instead of getting it in and fixing the bugs later.

All this time in development and still nothing really comes close to what they are doing so just goes to show how difficult it is.

"Starting on May 19th 2023, the in-game Invictus Launch Week event will kick off, and that's when players can begin to explore the vast universe of the popular title for free. The first Star Citizen Free Fly 2023 event is going to run for nearly two weeks, until May 30th, 2023. As usual, new and returning f2p players can count on a vast selection of ships to try and fly during the trial."

Anyone tried?

Still a slideshow for me. I don't expect to run this with all the bells and whistles but with everything on low it was still painful.
At least there was a basic tutorial now. It was confusing but that at least better than making people watch external videos. Interactions seem over complex, focus on a thing, go into interact mode, click on what ever you want to do, exit interact mode.

It's a total st show right now, and I'm an on and off regular player. A "Min pledge" apparently (I only paid the basic starter package) - many many players have chucked in OVER £10k on ships. fking madness.

You have a perfect storm right now. The last-but-one patch enabled "persistent universe" (3.18) - a very new and major change to the whole back end.

Then, as this was bedding in, they decided to launch a free play promo AND an in game event (Xeno threat) - and in their own words, to "test server resillience". They did this on the live servers, not the test servers. They categorically said that they wanted new players online to test server loading (nice hey!?!)

Then... when this promo and event ended, with a very very weary regular player base, they release 3.19 to fix a whole load of issues they learnt about. Great stuff...

But wait - they then immediately launch another free-play promo along with "invictus" - a ship sale for real money thinly disguised as an in game free ship rental bonanza. So the servers are on their knees. If you look at the server status page they havea "degraded" status and have done since last Friday. Its presently unplayable on the whole.

What they company do to the people that push all their money at them beggars belief, particularly, the lack of communication.

However, they make their own bed. The mega fans KEEP throwing more money at the game. They call it "pledging" like its something "special". One of the forum threads yesterday is a player moaning that the ship he wanted to buy was sold out even though he was online at the exact "opening" time. Bit like Glasto tickets. Loads and loads of replies on teh thread, but NOT ONE of them acknowledges the price of the ship he wanted (with at least one guy saying he got his)...... E3600 Euros!

As for a slideshow - the server performance doesn't haev much bearing on that. I have a 3070 with a modern i5 and 32Gb ram, SSD, and it plays super smooth. The graphics are staggering at times. It has its moments of wonder, but it'll always be aweful during free-fly promos - which is bloody stupid as you can imagine :-)

I’ve got an i5 and a 1080 in this machine, It’s not cutting edge but it’s not a potato. I can play most modern games even if I have to turn stuff down.

Sounds like the whole thing is a st show.

I thought dlc at £10+ was pricey. 3500 is insanity.

I had a gen 2 i7 and a 2060 and it was only just playable at medium . 3070 and gen 12? i5 transformed it. I think my old i7 was a major factor. 32 GB ram is also nearly essential. It's badly optimised.

And yes, the money people spend on ships is staggering.

Well my last experience of free weekend SC a few years ago was a slideshow at 720p/low with Ryzen1600 and RX5808GB 16GBRAM & nvme SSD. Only change with my system is 32GB RAM now, any chance of it not being a slideshow if I download the 80GB required again?

I built my current PC about 6 years ago. I7-5930k, GTX1080, 32GB RAM, Win10 on a pair of Corsair SSDs in RAID0, and a 1TB NVME SSD for programs and games. It plays Star Citizen just fine, I originally built it back when the "game" was just the hangar, having first backed the game in 2013. Technology has moved on and its very far away from being cutting edge now (not that it was at the time) but the golden rules of back then have never gone away. Have as much RAM as you can, 32GB is the benchmark, have a multi-core CPU and a GPU with 6GB or more of VRAM.

I've just had my account suspended for 48 hours for "Misconduct Rule 7, 7c, 9, 11". What did I do? I questioned a regular forum poster. My question was deleted. I asked why. Suspended.

A very very odd place indeed.

Was it a question like "Why have you spent so much money on something has been in development for 12 years and was supposed to launch in 2014?"

Much less "controversial". A regular poster suggested that the solution to increases waiting times for ship reclaiming (when you, or a bug destroys it) is to simply use another one whilst waiting.

I simply posted " How does that work for min-pledge players like me, with only one ship? ". Post was deleted. I asked why? Banned.

I looked into it and you are not even allowed to discuss moderators actions. Not a word.

Sounds toxic as hell.

One thing i did notice when trying to improve performance above slideshow was the chat. It was, ummm obnoxious.
Trash talk, calling noob on people asking sensible questions etc.

I'm usually immune to the junk in chat but it immediately stood out.

Even if it ever becomes what it set out to be, it sounds like many of the other people you encounter are so warped by their Stockholm syndrome that it would be a right grind.

I guess they'll all be long dead by the time it actually launches proper.

Ah, they don't like poor people who haven't remortgaged the house to pay for many ships. So like the comedy dictatorship it is they remove the voice of normality. It's so the only posts made are from obedient drones who have pledged thousands, this is so that new people joining will think that is what's normal and will soon be selling their grannies organs on ebay to join the cool gang and give Chris Roberts more money to fund his yachting hobby.

I am pretty out of touch with Star Citizen nowadays. I used to follow the development religiously, even went out to Citezencon in Austin and a Concierge event in Frankfurt.
I have found myself logging in less and less. They seem to want to simulate every aspect of life and some of it looks and feels pretty dull.
Get injured on a planet? Hobble back or crawl to your ship / buggy.
Get badly injured? lie on the surface waiting for someone else to hopefully tend to you.....and not rob you.
Take out your expensive ship and hope you don't get trolled or taken out by someone who will harvest your ship for parts.
I have spent a fair bit on this game, met the dev team and CR. But I am losing interest.

I now spend most of my time on Elden Ring, enjoying what I would consider to be the best game ever made.
