Was that the first time he had ever played it?
brilliant isn't it? He looks like someone's dad trying a video game for the first time. And this is HIS GAME. 100 MILLION DOLLARS OF IT!!!

Basically he doesn't give a flying fk about the MMO bit - all he's been doing is mocapping Luke Skywalker to get back into Hollywood. It's priceless stuff

Without being whooshed- the nerds at SA have already analysed all this. The furniture is all from Restoration Hardware and costs upwards of $1000 per desk

As someone pointed out - one of the best bits is that he doesn't even know to press ENTER to enter the chat - something that has been pretty much standard on MMOs since WOW came out. He genuinely looks like he hasn't touched a video game in over a decade. Which would be about right

Krunchkin, your level of butthurt for this game seems disproportionate to most. May I ask, are you one of the "geeks" who spent "thousands" bankrolling this "mocap"?

Personally I punted $40 at this years ago. A game might come out but if it fails to live up to expectations it is hardly the end of the world.

Well, that was a waste of bandwidth.

It seems very clunky, I found very little I could interact with and when I did it was unresponsive.
Flight controls were odd, left and right on my flight stick didn't roll me but made me strafe. I know I could set it up but that pretty much out of the box on flying games.
There didn't seem to be much effort made to guide you around, I know "because alpha" but some text prompts on what to do, how to even get a spaceship. It seems the hanger was a bit obvious.
It felt like a walking simulator. I just wanted to jump in a spaceship and fly it. Not have to walk from my scruffy room to an airlock and then try and figure out how to get in the ship and if you are not in the exact pixel position you can't.

Yeah, I found twisting did yaw. Still didn't find roll though.

It just felt a very long way off finished.

How on Earth did that ever get released into the wild? If anyone ever had any doubts about where this game is it, there's the evidence. Someone else's FPS engine with some admittedly decent textures, but at no point did any of what I saw look like fun.

And it looks like Chris Roberts has never seen it before, and the level of (un)preparedness for the demo is almost beyond belief.

And all the time it's "we're changing that", "it's coming in V2.1", "future versions...", sorry but there is just no credibility any more. My guess is that he's spending the last $10M trying to make out he's delivered enough so that he doesn't get hit with a really painful lawsuit for wire fraud, or similar.

I've seen ships released for £30-270 on Arsebook. Are people spending real money or in-game credits?

I was so excited when I first saw the trailer for this. Think it'll just quietly disappear with a lot of angry fans frown

I get that, he just seems to be overreacting to a speculative investment.

I was annoyed at how unfinished ED felt but I signed up for that after it had been released thinking it was a finished game. SC hasn't been released yet so I'm not sure it's fair to throw the toys out of the pram just yet. Obviously if it turns sour and we've all been collectively bummed to the tune of $100M we can all feel a bit grumpy but until then I'm going to hope for the best and play something else.

I have no personal investment in it. The first I heard about the game was this thread. Then I started doing some reading, looking at what Derek had posted, and followed the SA thread where they are documenting it. My fascination with this is simply that it is a con job on a gigantic scale and is going to make a cracking book and documentary once it all goes tits up. Plus there is the comedy value of Roberts' actress wife, that absurd neckbeard who acts a shill for them, and complete idiots spending the price of a new car on JPEGs of spaceships. This story has it all.

How much money do they have left in the pot? As its crowd-funded do the accounts not get published in any form?

The figures on the website are highly debatable. Some people have done calculations which suggest the numbers don't add up at all. The current thinking is that they are very low on reserves and have diverted the remaining money to the Manchester arm led by Roberts brother which is working on the FPS game with all the Hollywood actors in it. They will rush to get that out to try and make some money on it (with rumours also that they are about to announce it will come out on console).

Fair enough. I can only hope you're wrong biggrin

I also hope that console rumour isn't true, the last thing SC needs is more scope creep.

It's the refund process, new buyers will not be able to get a refund unless the game ceases development.

Not sure how you can come to that conclusion on the news that has been released today. They've changed their terms a bit to make it harder for new joiners to get a refund, big deal.

I'd have said the writing was on the wall long before this, nearly $120m in crowd funding money and nothing really to show for it so far would have me more worried than a small change to a contract clause tbh.
