As an amateur bystander I'd say that's quite a big change tbh. Wasn't it on the cards some time ago?

More to come this week. Smart is on the warpath
Oh no! Not Derek Smart! rolleyes

I don't know why he's on this 'crusade' - he's not exactly qualified to discuss game development with the st he's peddled over the years. I'm pretty sure he's just bitter over the fact that they're 'potentially' going to deliver something he never could.

That being said, I don't see how SC can continue as they are, they seem to be a long, long way from any kind of release, and surely the money must be drying up soon; who are theses people who keep buying all this virtual tat to support the development? Hardly seems possible.

I'll be shocked if this seems any kind of proper release that lives upto expectations.

In one of his many, many stupid moves Croberts pissed off one of the angriest men in game development. Now it's war...

I've only skimmed through that article so I may have missed it but it still doesn't really explain why he is so angry, just goes into a full on rant almost straight away. OK CIG haven't delivered and I'd be a bit peeved if I was a backer but not sure why this guy seems to be taking it so personally.

He's a legendary angry internet warlord. He bought into SC initially. Then he realised it was pie in the sky and voiced his concerns. Croberts went on a rant about him and kicked him out and refunded his Money and banned him. Bad move. Now it's war.

I'm not fully up to speed with the Battlecruiser 3000AD story but did just have a quick read of the wiki.

It's not war! Just seems like fragile egos colliding, Smart trying to bring down Roberts, and put the nails in the coffin of SC. A very bitter individual imho. Notwithstanding, SC development story will probably become the stuff of gaming folklore. . .

It's things like this that make me think some people have far too much time and energy on their hands. Sure I get pee'd off sometimes (see my rant about forced updates in the Battlefront thread) but I just wouldn't go to this much effort over a game. So they haven't delivered, either wait to see what happens or have a 5 minute moan then move on and get on with your life.

This is a big story! Its the largest crowdfunded game project ever - 120 MILLION DOLLARS. People are spending thousands of pounds on fake spaceships that will never make it to the game. When it blows its going to be immense

It's like one of Donald Trump's real estate projects.

Oh I agree it is IF that turns out to be the case although that is just rumour and hearsay at the moment. That's not the bit that's puzzling me, it's the personal vendetta Smart seems to have that just comes over as a bit weird, unless he had a personal stake in it, it all seems a bit nerd-ragey to me. Who knows, perhaps he was one those who spent thousands on a plastic spaceship? smile

As I hinted, if Smart had never created the semi-successful Battlecruiser 3000AD I doubt this war of words would ever have materialised, well not with Smart involved at least.

Edited coz facts. . .

Is krunchkin actually Derek Smerk or just another one of his paranoid goon mouthpieces?

Some people just have way too much time of their hands and are a little bit too obsessed for their own good.

Seriously, lets just see how it turns out and leave the wild speculations to a side.

Ouch good come back. I've no idea what a "Shillizen" is but I'm guessing some kind of derogatory name for a backer of Star Citizen.

Despite your compelling argument I'm still reserving my opinion of the development and the game itself until I see a finished product. Certainly no interest in jumping on the bandwagon of a man who genuinely appears to have mental health issues (Mr Smart) or judging it on pre-alpha game footage.

What it does highlight really well is the ambiguous nature of crowd-funding and its deeply flawed levels of accountability to its backers. To be fair those changes to the ToS for new backers are a real kick in the teeth, and well worth being exposed!

Christ on a Dragonfly

For a game not released there's a st load of ships now - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships it just kept scrolling.

I can see where all the money has gone now, on concept artists.
