Which reasonably priced but still GOOD steering wheel for PC

I was lucky and picked up a few faulty ones, made good sets and tried to find cures for the others... With the G25 the shifter was the weak unit, broken wires on the actual gearstick microswitches. The G27 is prone to circuit board defects in the wheel housing resulting in lack of power (dead rig) or no ffb to the wheel. Most of these are down to the box getting dropped on the 'wrong' end. I haven't felt the need to explore the new ones as they look more like playstation controllers than steering wheels (I don't do consoles)
Its a very low percentage of faulty units, they are built very well and I really like the 'feel' of the controls. The Stainless spokes on the wheel are stronger than the ally ones on the old sports steering wheels for real cars and the old thumb button ones from the G25 look business like in a 'racer', very FnF. Force feed back is variable and on its strongest setting you have a real desk breaking fight on your hands when it kicks in.
So many of the issues I have heard about come from software settings and using the logitech gaming software and setting profiles for each game pays off in the long run. There is a tickbox to stop the game from altering the settings too. That however stops the games from altering the settings when you are changing cars which means they all feel the same. It just takes patience setting up each game.
I've got a couple of real car projects on the go at present so mine are underused and I often wonder why I kept a 'spare' set, might be tempted to sell it on before xmas. So before you go and buy one PM me and make me an offer on my spare set
as i'd rather see it go to a good home.

Well I've gone and bought myself a G27 based on recommendations here. I was reluctant to buy second hand from a third party (sorry Rebuilda) after the issues I had with the GT so I found a local CEX that had one who claimed to offer a 2 year warranty. Cost me £170. Haven't tried it yet (fingers crossed this one works) but it certainly looks much nicer than the Force GT wheel I had before, not to mention, it looks like its in far better condition too.
Hopefully I wont be back here in a couple of hours complaining it doesn't work!

Well I've hooked it up, and well, wow, this one definitely works. I don't know what was up with the other one. So I've played a couple of games of project cars, and its great fun, but I'm absolutely terrible at the game!
I also really thinking that I need a stand for it as clamping to the desk was very cumbersome, and my desk isn't really stable enough (or thick enough to clamp the gearshift to properly), I also reckon a stand will help get a good driving position?
I'm now also really tempted by a 34" ultrawide monitor (1080p only for cost reasons - I don't have £500 to blow on a GPU and £750+ on a monitor!).

Do you have an old mouse mat? My desk is a thinner one and I cut a 2inch wide strip off the long side of the mouse mat and I always put that between the underside of the desk and the clamps to give it extra thickness to grip, the rubber underside of the mouse mat which is face up grips the underside of the desk. Remember how we said buy the G27,you bought cheap, regretted it and then bought a G27....

This looks nice, but its quite expensive (not as expensive as that predator monitor but still), and I doubt my GPU (GTX760) would power this thing properly?

Don't like the fact that has a bar in the middle. The one I'm looking at has an unobstructed access to the pedals.

I retained my G25 for TDU as the G27 doesn't have FFB settings (games too old, controller not recognized) have used the G27 on everything else and its been awesome.
The G25 did over 100K 'miles' on TDU, a lot of it was very aggressive driving and it never blinked once after the gearshift issue was fixed. The G27 has done more and is still going strong, I hope you get as much fun out of yours. Truly one of the best PC toys you can buy in my opinion.

So true, I just picked up Thrustmaster T500, t3pa pedals and th8pa shifter, plus a get omega pro cockpit on gumtree...retail is about £850 new, I got the lot for £450. There are deals to be had. Next toy on the list is Oculus rift, but second hand they just shot up in price now they've stopped selling the dk2.I had a Dev kit but sold it after about a month. Fantastic bit of kit but plan was always just to try and sell on. Made about £100 so was a very good way of trying it out!

Can't imagine the sound being as good as what I have now for starters, and it seems a bit unnatural, though I admit I haven't tried it. Will probably still go for a big monitor. I can imagine it being fun, but having that strapped to my head... unsure!
I am addicted to this wheel now. Fantastic fun. Can't wait to try some different games with it - Project Cars is good but I can imagine other games are just as good fun too.
