XBone turns itself off after 5 mins

As above, my Xbox One turns itself off after about 5 minutes of use. It's not particularly hot and sits on top of a table and has lots of ventilation around it.

I opened a support call with Microsoft today and we went through the troubleshooting process, mainly to determine whether it's a power adapter issue or a console issue. Support say it's a console issue and as I am out of warranty, I need to pay them £91 for a refurbed model which they'll swap with mine. The refurb will come with 3 months warranty and a month of XBox Live.

Anyone had this issue?
Did you take this route or did you go for a new one at full cost?
Am I missing a trick?

Can't speak for xbox but the price for a refurbed one sounds about right. I pay £11.99/month to cover both my PS3 & 4 through a 3rd party and whenever one of them breaks they just replace it FOC with a refurbed one and take my one away.

how much dust is around yours? I've had to clean out my 360 and PS's alot as my house gets quite dusty and if i leave it for awhile it can get quite noisy so that could be it.

We live in a very dusty house. If I open the console up and Hoover it out l will they still exchange it if that doesn't solve the problem do you think?

Thanks. Spoke to Microsoft support again this eve. As far as I can tell, I can get a refurbished unit for £84 if I order it myself from the Xbox Support website or £91.87 if the support people do it on my behalf. It comes with a 3 month warranty so with any luck it'll last far longer and I can go from there.
