OK, so that's just ridiculous. End of The Necropolis level and those dual Hell Guardians. Must have tried it a dozen times and barely made a dent, could be an "end of game" situation for me
I don't know why games designers do this. You get to a point where it's too stupidly difficult to get any further, so what do you do ?For me, 3 recent games:
Rise Of The Tomb Raider : I gave up right at the end as I could not kill the last character and there's no cheat mode.
Doom : I enabled God mode and finished the game.
Hard Reset Redux : Finished it !

I'm assuming you haven't played and completed Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne?...being a pansy n all?For me, 3 recent games:

Well there we go. Once I'd figured out the mechanic of the massive fireballs (yeah, because that was obvious ) it turned out to be pretty easy in the end. Shooting the fireball stuns the Hell Guard and you can then deal a ton of damage before it recovers
I'm nearly at the end now and I've had enough. Presumably there is yet another showdown since Olivia Pierce has got to turn up as a badass at some point, but I feel these boss fights are totally at odds with the rest of the game
I may go back and mop up the secrets, uncover the classic levels, etc but another playthrough at a higher difficulty? Not a chance. It's a good game, but it's not that good IMO
As for Dark Souls, Bloodborne, et al. Nope, zero interest in any of those - I know when a game is going to be too hard to be "fun" for me and everything I've read about those tells me to keep the cash in my pocket

If you pay say £30 for a game you should be allowed to play all of it, if for someone (i.e. me) it's too difficult, then you have paid £30 but only got half the game.Imagine if you went to see a film, paid your whatever (I've no idea what it costs to see a film because I've not been to the cinema for at least 20 years) and every so often you had to explain what was going on, and if you failed you were not allowed to see the rest of the film ? You'd be livid !! But that's what you get when games like Doom are too hard for someone like me.
It's funny how we find different things tricky.
I was just typing that I don't even remember a boss fight in TRotTR. They I did finally recall but it wasn't hard I thing 2 or 3 attempts was all it took. The fight that p'd me off in that game was the one where you are under the ice in a room with ice hole to pop out of and 4 or 5 guys to kill all of whom are ninjas. I nearly quit at that point.
The hell demons after that boss fight I just spammed them to death.
The final Olivia monster is a PITA. I'm going to give up soon if I don't crack it, one tiny mistake and you are toast, it's silly. The game has been fun but a bit repetitive overall.

I did the ice hole bit okay in the end. You just have to bide your time.I was just typing that I don't even remember a boss fight in TRotTR. At the end you have all you weapons taken off you by some bloke or other and you have to attack him when he's not looking. I must have tried it endless times and in the end I just gave up.
The one at the end of Bioshock Infinite pissed me off as well. I played it on easy mode with no bother, then the fight at end was impossible.

I do hear you. I'm just more an advocate of try harder. If anyone can do it, I can do it with enough practice.Imagine if you went to see a film, paid your whatever (I've no idea what it costs to see a film because I've not been to the cinema for at least 20 years) and every so often you had to explain what was going on, and if you failed you were not allowed to see the rest of the film ? A game is supposed to be a challenge, not a movie. For that type of experience, watch someone stream a play through on a 1080p HD youtube video.
:-).

So, final thoughts from those who have played it through?
Is it worth a punt? At what price?
I loved the original games on PC but didn't get to grips with Doom3. Is it more like the original fun-shooter or does it now take itself too seriously?
I can't decide whether to get this or seek out a better driving simulator (PS4).

Ive only played the first two levels so far (waaaaaaaay too little time), but im really enjoying myself, its a nice action packed old school shooter, and what they added in terms of new mechanics (glory kills) works VERY well, just maneuvering around a group of possessed or even one or two imps and meleeing them followed by a glory kill whilst dodging the rest is very rewarding way to mow through some low threat groups, and saves shotgun ammo

Whilst fun (for a while) it does get very repetitive aside from a handful of "boss" type encounters that happen in the latter stages. It looks great, moves very well though, very fluid and no frame drop (on PS4) that I saw and the shooting mechanics / glory kill also works wellI haven't finished it though (stopped at the final level) - just couldn't be bothered with another boss fight at the end and I haven't even been back to replay the earlier levels to find the secrets / collectables, etc. There isn't much depth to it, not that I was expecting that as it is Doom after all, but it all got a bit boring for me I'm afraid. Some of the weapons are poor and you'll find yourself using the same ones over and over again.
You will grow to hate Pinkys and their cloaking cousins if you play this game - bullet sponge hell rhinos
It's not worth the full asking price IMO, pick it up when it's on sale (which it will be before too long, I'm sure)

Don't fart around in combat though, get stuck in there. (slmost) Reckless abandon FTW!
When in doubt, run and shoot. Stand still, try to hide behind cover and you will die. You do need to think though. Shoudl you use the power-up now or later? If there are Summoners around, get to them and kill them quickly.Don't fart around in combat though, get stuck in there. (slmost) Reckless abandon FTW!
