That's another reason that I don't like controllers - I hate playing in the living room. I bought a PS3 and I must have played on it for only a few hours since they day they were launched. So it became a very expensive DVD/Blue Ray player as that's all its ever been used for.

Each to their own I guess. I love playing in the living room when the OH is out; curtains closed, lights off, beer on the table and Aliens Isolation in 55" 4K glory.

Nothing better to make you st your pants biggrin
Fortunately, all my 'stuff' is in a single room upstairs. I have the PC, large 4K monitor, 50 inch 4K TV a few amps and several speakers all chucked in there.

I still use a pad on Doom, though. I think it plays fine on it. thumbup

I also bought Doom for my Xbox 1 last night and had a quick 10-15 play, I went for the 'Hurt Me Plenty' option and I think i'll need to go back and start again on an easier option as I keep getting killed extremely quickly!

Ill see if i can pick up Q4 on the 360 during my lunchbreak

Sadly i have no hardware that can run Doom currently, but it is definitely going on the list for when i get an X1/PS4

Use grenades!

When you come across a crowd of nasties through a doorway or down a tunnel, back up and chuck a grenade. Then run in shooting and tapping the "tear head off" button.

Sounds like I should be getting this on the XboxOne for the single player and hoping my 9 year old son doesn't see it.

I was a massive Doom and DoomII fan back in the day biggrin

Ok - I'm in. Question is - which platform?

I have a decent gaming PC, so that would be the logical choice despite the 43Gb download (thankfully I have fibre broadband).

Or is there any benefit from XBone? I have previous little time for multiplayer, so that would be the only draw there I suppose.

Recommends?

If you have a decent gaming PC, definitely get it for the PC.

You'll have the Mouse and Keyboard advantage and better graphics. Plus you can get the PC download for less than £25 if you shop around.

PC, hands down, it is the best platform for FPS games

The soundtrack is absolutely immense. Just love ripping up some Gore nests and getting the full techno metal going before a big fight

You know it has all the original Doom levels hidden in it right?

Sold.

I still have the original Doom boxed on 3.5" floppies - so feels 'right' to have it on PC umpteen years later. Besides, as said previously, keyboard and mouse FTW where FPS are concerned.

Just beaten the Cyberdemon (I would say spoiler but let's be honest, it's not) and still really enjoying it. The fast paced combat feels so smooth and fresh compared to the last generation of FPS games. Only thing I don't like is the checkpoint system, since I found myself having to try several areas multiple times after dying on the last few enemies. The glory kills are essential, and there have been times where I've been in single digit health but been able to turn it around, yet since the animations are so short they never interrupt the flow of combat

Yes, I want quicksave, particularly for exploring. There've been several times that I'd have like to be able to quicksave to see whether I can get to a particular place on the map, but didn't risk it for fear of having to start again at the last checkpoint.

I would have usually said yes to Quick Save, BUT I would just use it all the time and find it far too easy. I prefer the panic of having low health and trying harder to survive.

Yeah quick save wouldn't work in this. The point is mostly youre locked in a kill chamber and have to clear the room in one go to progress.
