Completed the first level of this last night. Having been playing Black Ops 3 lately, it feels very different, mainly because there's no aiming down sight and it's very 'slidey' as was mentioned higher up the thread. You seem to skim over the surface rather than walk on it. I'm also struggling to to aim well. I've tried tweaking the x/y axis sensitivity, which has helped a bit. The only other bummer was that none of the controller configurations switch the trigger away from R2 (this is on the PS4). Granted that actually is the trigger button on the pad, but i prefer the shoulder button (R1) as it's quicker to tap.

The game itself though was great fun. The blue/red glint on the enemies is a good feature. The grenades seemed pretty OP, although i'm sure they barely make a dent in the larger enemies as the game progresses. Looking forward to having a longer go at it tonight.

I'm kinda hoping that the Arch-Vile and Spider Demon don't reappear in this game. Trying to deal with those on Ultra-Violence or Nightmare on Doom II was, errmmmm, not easy assuming you weren't cheating...

Clay model animation Doom. Possible spoilers for what happens in the game? I don't know.

Sort of want to play a clay animation game now. Shirley they could do a 3D game that looks like clay animation these days.

You're changed your tune quicker than David Cameron on the EU referendum.
I didn't pre order. I waited for GiantBombs quicklook and the general feeling then bought the game. I played the beta. The multiplayer is toss.

you can dismount now.
You asked why people were "pre-ordering this crap" and now you say it's "superb"

You can dismount from your bicycle now since you are intent on back-pedaling so fast.
This is unfair. He is hardly the only one. And it is all Bethesdas fault for stty marketing. They allowed an open beta where people could only play the fairly crappy multiplayer which was developed by a different studio. iD made the single player - which no one had seen until release date - and it turns out it's the best FPS in at least a decade, and shows up all the crappy cover shooters and boring "storyline" games up for the tedious cack that they are. Pretty much every review site is eating humble pie and saying "we were wrong. This fking owns"

Try turning smoothing down to about 25%. It helps

Fired up Doom3 on my original Xbox last night as I never got around to completing that the first time around. Yeah OK the GFX are dated but it still plays really well, the panicked bursts of radio chat/audible carnage still really set you on edge when playing through headphones!
Looking forward to picking the new game up this weekend with any luck biggrinshoot
Doom 3 is like a really good scary Haunted House. New Doom is like dropping a gram of coke and an acid tab and then riding a 6 loop roller coaster armed with an AK47

Completed the single player campaign on Hurt Me Plenty. The final boss doesn't screw around, and think I might get a bit too frustrated if I try it on Ultra Violence

I'm stuck on this bit. Can't make the last jump after 5 attempts. I hate platform jumping in games.

The bit where the walkway has collapsed? Should be loads of room if you do a double jump. If you're having trouble try looking at the floor as you walk forwards, so you can see exactly where the platform ends

Tested the theory last night and it worked a charm. Much obliged beer

Finally got into some more serious firefights and with the aiming working better it was terrific fun. Success seemed to be a matter of finding a good blend of straight up killing everything alongside tactical chainsawing to replace ammo and glory kills to keep health up.

Out of curiosity, how do you find the various secrets? Not specifically 'where are they', but rather with Doom II for example if you walked along the walls and kept tapping space bar eventually you'd find secret doors, but this doesn't look like that sort of game. Is it more a case of jumping onto a hard to see platform or clambering up on top of something? All i've found so far is one of the dolls that was either supposed to be Doom Guy or the Master Chief, it was hard to tell which...

Doom 3 was one of the best FPS's at the time when it came out, it definitely makes you jump in places!

Use the map! Clear out the zone of Demon hellspawn then go look at what is still grey. Even without all the enviromap upgrades it shows you where the Doomguy dolls and other hidden goodies are - the original doom levels will show up as grey areas and the hidden lever, even though not marked, will always be in close proximity to the entrance.

To me this is one of the best fun bits of the game. You smoke all the bad guys then you have time to have a good nose around before pressing on into the next kill chamber. It's a nice little post-slaughter pause to catch your breath and collect goodies

I had to change the FOV from 90 to 100 as I felt like I could not see much (i.e. everything was a bit too close). That's the first game I've ever changed it from the default. I tried it a higher setting and it looked a bit distorted, like my view was curved (if that makes sense).

Bloody good mind you - best game I've played since Wolfenstein:The New Order and The Old Blood.
